box.

LAS’s had lots of shows listed as lucha libre which turn out to be baseball. The undercard matches (2/3) from Sunday aired, but El Protector never did. They’ve moved on to airing the FILL show – matches 3/4 aired today – so that other tournament was taped, produced and probably won’t air (unless it turned up on AYM.)

== AAA ==

AAA-Televisa: Toluca, with is now more obviously a 1 week taping since the Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera taping date has been announced. That almost means the Gotita de Plata-ish opener might not make air, though I’m unsure why all of the stuff they can’t air doesn’t just get put up on the YouTube site. They don’t even really need to post-produce it; this is not the usual announcing dig, but the reality of the people going out of the way to watch openers aren’t going to be that concerned about not having all the bells and whistles.

== CMLL ==

FOX: Gran Alternativa Block A and the main event – and hopefully no more, so they have to edit things down.

52MX: Casas/Atlantida, Estetas/Revolucionarios (sort of), and maybe even Gallo vs Arkangel.

C3: Titan/Rush/Cometa vs a Peste Negra

TVC Deportes (Puebla): At 9pm this week. Negro Casas vs Averno.

Lucha Azteca: Probably the top 3 matches, because Shocker’s turn made for a very short match.

Terra Friday: Assume just the first three matches and feel lucky if the Gran Alternativa airs. I’ll feel lucky if I get two straight weeks without having to redo my recording scheme.

Terra Sunday: Maya & Delta vs Puma & Tiger – who will win? Will they ever get HD working in Coliseo again?

== Other ==

IWRG-AYM Sports: maybe the FILL show, maybe that Sunday’s show.

Noches de Coliseo: maybe Konnan Big?

IWL: on week?

recap

taped 2013-12-20 @ Arena Mexico
Leyenda de Plata, Block A: This one was extra exciting live, because Titan advancing to the end, much less winning, was totally unexpected. It’s still fun watching it much later, though it doesn’t quite have the same excitement. It was equally nice to see Virus get so far in the tournament, and the set up of Atlantis taking out all the rudos until they all worked together to beat him was nicely done. Delta has had better nights and Tiger seemed underused, but this got a lot of the field they had. Olímpico even had a good moment.

Titan has no idea why they call it a safety barrier

Volador Jr. vs Reapper: A match. It didn’t feel particularly big; this was a chance for Reapper to show something even in a loss, and he really didn’t do anything much. This feud was built around the Invasors very angry with Volador for his betrayal, but there wasn’t much of the emotion here outside the first fall run-in. Reapper could’ve done a lot more in the second fall but just did some moves and the third fall was the usual Volador move trading only shorter than usual. Maybe this is more about establishing Volador as a tecnico, but then there’s no reason to even try to establish Reapper as some meaningful. This was like a half executed attempt.

Guerrero Maya on TerceraCaida, ChilangaMask, FantasticaMania, Fuerza/Octagon

Not much going on today. IWRG is still off midweek. CMLL has a show in Arena Xalapa with Estetas vs Averno, Dragon Rojo, and Rey Escorpion. AAA tapes Sunday.

This week’s TerceraCaida has Guerrero Maya Jr. talking about his career, including footage of one of his earliest matches as Samba. The after the cameras bit includes a Jose Manuel rudo turn.

The ‘all CMLL’ show from the FantasticaMania tour has made it’s way to DailyMotion. I haven’t watched it but reviews aren’t great; they used a smaller ring for the small building and it threw things off.

Fuerza Guerrera did an interview with Terra pushing the idea of doing a mask match with Octagon. Yes, the year is 2014. They’ve been teasing this match, off and on, for 23 years. I noticed the article because Octagon RT-ed it on Twitter. It’s never going to happen unless Fuerza is willing to lose his mask (Octagon’s unlikely to want to lose him and AAA may not want him to do it) and I’m not sure how big a deal it would be.

El Santo held his annual meeting at the Santo statue, along with a mass in his father’s memory. Besides the anniversary of Hijo del Santo’s death, yesterday was also Fray Tormenta’s 70th birthday.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

There will be a Mini Royal Rumble in Puebla on the 9th. Over 20 minis on a benefit show for Bracito de Plata.

A lucha libre art exhibition, with artwork and lectures, will open this Friday in Nuevo Laredo.

Eric R @ Segunda Caida reviews Lucha Azteca 02/01/13.

Interview with Coahuila luchador Tempestad, who mentions training with Tony Salazar & Demus.

Aspiring luchadors are being bullied in Uruapan.

Full lineup for the show. Eterno replaces Cerbero Negro; the last mention I heard was he was still in the hospital but that was a while ago. (It also means AAA & CMLL luchadors on the same show though I’m not sure what Eterno’s official status is.) This is the announced card order but we’ve seen that change depending on if/when the CMLL guys need to get to their Sunday show. Very excited for a lot of this matches.

recap

taped 2013-12-25 @ Arena Mexico

Zayco’s just passing thru

Leono & Metálico vs Akuma & Zayco: A routine opening match with one psycho Zayco bump to the floor. He should’ve just stayed on the floor and been counted out forever after that, but he came in in after a minute or so for some random near falls. No one showed much but this was a match to show a lot.

Demus escapes!

Astral, Eléctrico, Último Dragoncito vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico: Felt like a more active minis match than other ones of late. Maybe it was the same amount of action in less time, but it was more fun match to watch . Finishing sequence was not good.

Molotov, Starman, Stigma vs Canelo Casas, Hijo del Signo, Shigeo Okumura: Canelo pins captain Starman about 3 minutes into the second fall. Only, he’s clearly not supposed to have pinned him – Tirantes counted too fast, Starman didn’t get shoulder up. Tirantes tries to end the match, only the rudos argued they didn’t actually win the match! Everyone generally ignored Tirantes and went along to do get in their spots and luckily Tirantes went along with it (though he appeared to receive a loud message in his earpiece between falls – when he finally put it back in.) This aired! I’m glad it did because I don’t what I’d write about this match otherwise. I was unconvinced by Canelo Casas finish, or that it was a move at all.

Canelo Casas’ finisher

Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Valiente vs Euforia, Felino, Pierroth: Short match, even granted the problems of the online feed. (They didn’t seem to join this one so late, it was just a quick match.) Guys generally seemed to be trying while there were out there. Delta seemed slower than usual. Pierroth remains bad and not a good fit for this match. I’m not sure which match he’d be a good fit for, but I fear they’ll keep giving him matches until they figure it out.

Rey Escorpion is good

Atlantis, La Máscara, Titán vs Averno, Mephisto, Rey Escorpión: Normal build up trios match, focusing on Atlantis/Mephisto with the other four guys getting in spots in between. I would’ve liked to see a more full out match with these guys to make it memorable, but they were still fine at this level. The visual of Atlantis’s ripped mask still around his head as he wore the replacement one was nice.
