Dallys la Caribeña, Estrellita, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany: Hooray, the turn is over. Not that Dallys on the ruda side will turn out to be any greater, but story progression means they story might be eventually done. The match wasn’t much but the turn went fine – live, at least. Here, they left it uncertain if Dallys had actually turned, cutting away before she embraced the rudas. No idea why someone would edit it that way.
Máximo, Stuka Jr., Super Porky vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión: It sticks out, on a rewatch, how little Porky got in during the actual match. Just one flurry of punches, a surprising belly to belly suplex and the splash for the win. The real violence comes after the match is officially over, Porky destroying Escorpion with punches and kicks time after time, and effectively building up the violence of the match they’re about to have. Escorpion’s beatdown of Porky for the short length of this match helped too, but this angle worked because of the punches to the jaw after it was over. Fox didn’t air all of it, but they aired enough to get the point. (It may be just coincidence, but it seemed like there were hints to the finish too – Máximo made multiple suicide runs into the ring to allow his father to escape the beatdown, and seemed slightly concerned about the idea for the hair match.)
Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto: Weird things afoot. This was the big match formula; almost to it’s determent, because it’s too familiar with the Estetas and could use some variation (though the crowd was still into it), and the finish clearly set up another match between the teams – but that match isn’t happening because they went in another direction and Valiente’s not around, so why do the big blow off match without the técnicos going over to end the feud? It can’t even be that they didn’t know the title match wasn’t happening, because they would’ve saved a but more for it if they thought it was coming up next week. Maybe they’re coming back to this in late November and decided it would be a big enough gap? (I’m totally convinced plans were changed here, if you can’t tell.) Místico wrestled the last half of this match with one arm and still managed to survive the experience.
