Day: October 2, 2013
Rush & Mascara to face Atlantis & Sombra, Canek wins random title, AAA in SLP, Texano on robbery, Dragon Bane
IWL (SAT) 09/28/2013 Arena Neza [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), Estrellas del Ring]
1) Harry Potter & Rayo Star b Panterita & Skyman
2) Babel, Centinela, Corcel Infernal, Quimico Jr. b Gotita de Plata, Kid Jaguar, Medics I, Medics III
Medics team represent Arena Aficion
3) Arkanos, Kilvan, Shadow, Yoruba b Arceus, Fly Metalik, Fly Star, Fly Warrior
Resistencia vs Los Fly XMW. Yoruba’s grandmother passed away the day of the show, and he still worked.
4) Infierno Kid, Sepulturero I, Último Vampiro b ATM, ATM Gold, ATM Silver and Freelance, Pantera I, Suicida
Suicida had to leave the match after getting hurt on a moonsault to the floor.
5) Aeroboy, Demente Extreme, Hormiga, Violento Jack b Ángel o Demonio, León Rojo, Ovett, Perico
Usual extreme. Hormiga suffered a cut in artery and left the match to prevent further bleeding. Team sorta-DTU’s win sets up a title match down the line.
6) Fresero Jr., Tony Rivera, Zumbido b Black Terry, Dinamic Black, Dr. Cerebro
Fresero Jr. replaced Loco Max.
7) Carta Brava Jr., Cerebro Negro, Fantasma de la Ópera b Súper Muñeco, Súper Pinocho, Súper Ratón [WWA TRIOS]
Secta Negra’s first defense. Another bloody mask ripping match with Fantasma beating Muneco after some screwiness. Mask/hair challenges followed.
8) Canek b LA Park, Dr. Wagner Jr. [INDY WL HEAVY]
Listed as the first title defense for the International Wrestling League Heavyweight Championship for LA Park, but turned out to be a *Independent* Wrestling League Heavyweight Championship match. Canek pinned both LA Park and Wagner to win the title, though there was the usual shenanigans.
On one hand, IWL started out as Independent Wrestling League so they probably had the belt made and it was sitting in a closet somewhere. On every other hand, having a second heavyweight championship for the same three guys is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Everyone having a belt makes for happy luchadors but dumb wrestling promotions.
It doesn’t seem like Trio Fantasia is getting the WWA belts back if they’ve moved onto hair/mask challenges, which honestly surprises. Especially given what’s going on in the main event.
CMLL (MON) 09/30/2013 Arena Puebla [Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), Porra Fresa]
1) Ares & Siki Ozama Jr. b Águila Egipcia & Black Tiger
Ares replaced Centauro de Fuego. Rudos took 1/3.
2) Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Tiffany b Dallys la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Luna Mágica
Rudas took 2/3, the last when the other tecnicas hit Dallys by mistake, they argued with her, and the rudas took advantage for the win. Dallys attacked Goya after the match.
3) Sagrado, Stigma, Stuka Jr. vs Felino, Puma, Tiger
Team Felino took falls 2/3.
4) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Shocker b Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Solar I
Crowd was very happy to see the UWA guys. Navarro submitted Atlantis in first. Outsiders continued to dominated until Panther turned the match around on Terry and Shocker submitted Solar. Panther & Solar double pinned in the third fall, Shocker got Terry in the reinera but Negro broke it up, Atlantis submitted Negro to win. Fans threw money in, and Shocker gathered it up in a way which greatly annoyed Navarro & Solar. They argued with Shocker and told him just to take the money.
5) Ángel de Oro, La Máscara, La Sombra b Ephesto, Mephisto, Último Guerrero
Rudos jumped the tecnicos to take fall 1. Tecnicos rallied to take 2, Mascara beat Mephisto with a casita in fall 3. Crowd wasn’t into it until the third fall.
No idea what Shocker was on about. Mephisto and Mascara was set up even though it’s not mentioned in the recap
CMLL (TUE) 10/01/2013 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Yahoo! Deportes]
1) Molotov & Sensei b Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Cancerbero, Nosferatu, Raziel b Diamante, Pegasso, Starman
3) Mephisto & Titán b Felino, La Máscara, Máximo, Morphosis, Rey Escorpión, Tritón [CMLL TAG, seeding battle royal]
Triton was out first and hurt on his elimination.
4) Kráneo & Morphosis b Thunder & Tritón [CMLL TAG, eighthfinal]
Triton, replacing Shocker, worked this match despite being hurt in the battle royal.
5) La Máscara & Rush b Dragón Rojo Jr. & Rey Escorpión [CMLL TAG, eighthfinal]
6) Felino & Mr. Niebla b Máximo & Super Porky [CMLL TAG, eighthfinal]
7) Averno & Mephisto b Máscara Dorada & Titán [CMLL TAG, eighthfinal]
8) La Máscara & Rush b Kráneo & Morphosis [CMLL TAG, quarterfinal]
9) Felino & Mr. Niebla b Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG, quarterfinal]
10) La Máscara & Rush b Felino & Mr. Niebla [CMLL TAG, semifinal]
Surprise winners, given they’ll face Atlantis & La Sombra next week.
11) Euforia, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Diamante Azul, La Sombra
Volador snuck in a foul on Sombra for the win.
La Sombra & Atlantis vs Rush & La Mascara is a pretty big match in the CMLL scheme of things, and a surprising one for a Tuesday show. It’s the first time Sombra and Rush, the biggest young feud CMLL’s never done, are on opposite sides of a normal match. The crowd should behind the Atlantis & Sombra team because of their undying hatred of Rush, but Sombra hasn’t been getting a lot of support the last few weeks. Either team would be logical opponents for Tama Tonga & Rey Bucanero. There’s no favorite and I have no idea how it’s going to go.
Shocker did not make the show, but did congratulate his La Isla team on a win.
Volador had a full facepaint look, with an extended jaw on his upper torso (similar to what Arez has been doing on the indies.)
CMLL (TUE) 10/01/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Black Metal & Esfinge b Demonio Maya & Sádico
Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Astral & Eléctrico b Pequeño Olímpico & Pequeño Violencia
Tecnicos took 1/3. Electrico & Astral beat Olimpico.
3) Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr. b Namajague, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Misterioso Jr., Negro Casas, Psicosis b Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma
Rudos took 1/3, Negro Casas pinning Fantasma.
5) Marco Corleone, Mistico, Valiente DQ Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys
Tecnicos took 2/3. Terrible got caught fouling Marco for the DQ. Marco challenged to a singles (but not a title) match next week.
Maybe Marco wins the singles match and then asks for an actual title shot. I’m more invested in Marco getting a title shot than maybe Marco.
AAA tapes tonight in San Luis Potosi. Main event is a Secta vs Perros vs Mesias/Cibernetico three way match, which seems to be building up something that’s happening far after Heroes Inmortales. There’s another three way tag match on the show – Axel/Fenix vs Ultimo Gladiador/Pentagon Jr vs Scoria/Espiritu – where the results appears to be given away by the Heroes Inmortales lineup. AAA has done the usual bit of acknowledging Scoria is hurt but not explaining what that means for his match. There’s also a really good looking Angelico/Jack/probably Australian Suicide versus Eterno, Steve Pain and Carta Brava Jr. tercera and another Consejo/Psycho Circus.
Texano Jr. talked at length about the recent robbery he and other AAA luchadors suffered on the way to a show to Ciudad Juarez. (SuperLuchas found the article, which appears to be originally from newspaper El Mexicano.) The full list of luchadors involved here are Cibernetico, Texano Jr., La Parka, Fenix (said to be the most scared), Drago, Pimpinela, and Los Psycho Circus. Silver King and Silver King Jr. also worked the show in Ciudad Juarez but must’ve traveled separately. All the luchadors were in a van and Texano Jr. is unsure of the exact circumstances of how the armed man got to the van – he was sleeping – but he believes it was a convoy of vehicles which stopped them. The robbers forced the luchadors to leave everything in the van, had them walk to the side of the road, then took the van and drove off. It was a while before anyone else stopped to help them, but a police car eventually saw them and took them to a safer location. The promoter of the Juarez show found the van later, which still had some suitcases and items. Their phones, computers and travel papers were taken, along with some money. Texano says they like the fans in Ciudad Juarez and always try to put on a good show for them, but this experience does taint the city for them a bit. As it turns out, the next show by the local promoter won’t have AAA wrestlers, but Santo & Demon on 10/27.
LuchaMania Monterrey has a report on the Gemelo Muerte II tribute show, including video of Gemelo Muerte I’s speech about his brother.
This past Sunday in Arena Aficion, Dragon Bane saved his mask and took rudo Luger’s hair in a special main event. That recap says Dragon Bane is only 13. Luchadors from Arena Aficion’s past – Perro Gonzalez, Chato Garica, Comunista Mao, Blue Prince I and Charro Robles – were honored on the show.
Psycho Clown says his rivalry with Texano Jr. started as just about the title, but now it’s personal since Texano started insulting him and his family. Psycho brings up their face to face interview segment, where Psycho said Texano Jr. got scared every time the Brazos beat up Texano Sr. in matches and Texano Jr. tried to attack him. Psycho says he’ll win today in SLP, and again at Heroes Inmortales. (I guess Texano’s safe in Tlahuelilpan.)
Monterrey luchadora Lady Maravilla will be in a wheelchair for the next eight months after a very bad fall at a recent Nuevo Laredo show. There was a fundraiser for her medical bills last week.
This is a few weeks old, but it’s a good profile of the El Rey Network, the channel AAA will air on in the US. The start date of the network is now December (listed as December 15th on their website.) They’re saying they’ll be in 20 million homes to start with plans to double that by the first year. Galavision reaches 68 million, according to wikipedia. Lucha libre is mentioned is mentioned prominently, which is much better treatment than it’s got elsewhere. One of the videos on their website also pushes lucha libre, though it uses as much Virus vs Valiente footage as AAA Heroes del Ring.
I found this article because it does seem like this network is not a long way from launching but there’s been not a lot of talk about it since the official announcements in May. It seems like a new network needs a lot of promotion going into it’s debut to get people to take notice, but then Fox Sports 1 here in the US had (and still has) a ton of promotion and it doesn’t seem to have helped it all that much. For AAA, the start of El Rey has to be looked just like that – it’s a start. It’s a big step for the promotion, but it shouldn’t be expected to have a big impact at first. The payoff is down the line.
Fresero Jr. randomly challenges Black Terry. I guess if you’re going to make a random challenge, you should pick a really good name.
DJ Spectro has posts on Solar & Halcon 78 vs Los Comandos and Dr. Wagner versus Septiembre Negro.
Super Astro working the main event of the AAA show in Arena Cuatro Caminos
Lineups
CMLL (MON) 10/07/2013 Arena Puebla
1) Meyer, Milenium, Robin vs Ares, Guerrero Espacial, King Jaguar
2) Pegasso, Starman, Tigre Rojo Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Nitro
3) Sagrado, Stigma, Stuka Jr. vs Felino, Puma, Tiger
4) Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
5) Mephisto vs La Máscara [MEX LH]
Mephisto is champion. First defense.
It would be funny if CMLL hit the undo button on a title change which only happened for Universal tournament bracketing purposes.
There is a Guerrero Espacial in Nuevo Laredo but this seems unlikely to be him.
CMLL (TUE) 10/08/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Camaleón & Oro Jr. vs Akuma & Herodes Jr.
2) Bam Bam, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito vs Mercurio, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior
3) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa vs Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
4) Hijo del Fantasma vs Boby Zavala [lightning]
5) Blue Panther, Mistico, Thunder vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.
6) Atlantis & La Sombra vs La Máscara & Rush [CMLL TAG, #1 Contenders, final]
Besides the intrigue, that should be a very good main event. Tercera should be really good and segunda should be good as well. Fantasma vs Zavala sounds like a interesting different match (but won’t air.)
CMLL (TUE) 10/08/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Black Metal & Leo vs Guerrero Negro Jr. & Súper Comando
2) Gallo, Magnus, Starman vs Cancerbero, Nosferatu, Raziel
3) Fuego, Sagrado, Tritón vs Felino, Puma, Tiger
4) Marco Corleone vs Terrible
5) Máscara Dorada, Shocker, Titán vs Averno, Mephisto, Rey Escorpión
Marco can’t even get a main event? No respect. Though the main event could be pretty fun. Maybe I should decide what I think about this before finishing this paragraph.
DTU (SAT) 10/12/2013 Arena Coliseo Reynosaa
1) Jhonky vs Optimus, Calibus, El Lacandón, Rex Estampida
2) Chica Ye-Ye & La Magnifica vs Príncipe Haru & Zuzu Divine

4) Artikus & Rocky Lobo vs Drastik Boy & Septimo Dragon and Kaleth & Pequeno Cobra

Ciclope is champion, second defense?
7) Crazy Boy & Joe Lider vs Dance Boy & Demente Extreme and Aero Boy & Violento Jack and Ángel o Demonio & Ovett
Listed as a TVC Deportes taping. I believe X-Fly is a top 10 contender for every title in Mexico. There’s also a 10/13 show in Arena Pavillon del Norte as a taping, but no lineup yet.
DTU (SAT) 10/26/2013 Arena Xalapa
1) Jhonky & Optimus vs Gran Prix & Pajaro Madrugador

Jinzo! I should’ve just waited one more day. Not listed as a TVC Deportes taping (though that might not mean anything.)
