Flamita, Lucky Boy, Niño de Ébano vs Carta Brava Jr., Eterno, Steve Pain: another great showcase for the young guys. Flamita looked outstanding in the first third of the match, and Maxima Velocidad the rudos caught up with him the rest of the way. Steve Pain works amazingly well with these guys who didn’t know he existed like three months ago, and his own spots are really good too. Eterno works well with everyone. Carta Brava dropkicks people very hard. Finish was kind of sudden and convoluted to set up the high impact moves (lots of help on Eterno’s finish, Carta standing around ready to deliver his move for about five seconds for timing) if you want to nit pick.
Crazy Boy & Joe Lider vs Daga & Psicosis for the AAA World Tag Team Championship: This was like a check list of things that annoy me. Extreme spots where every mvoe is supposed to be epic only everyone just pops up two seconds later fine? Check. Psicosis not wearing his mask with no explanation and everyone ignoring it? Check. Match coming to a complete halt as both sides work together to set up spots? Check. Neither side actually trying to win the match? Check and double check. Crowd sounded way into this, but maybe because they turned up the ring mics loud enough to make chair shots sound like cymbal crashes. This was a match I clearly was going to dislike from the moment it was announced and there were no surprises there. If anything, this was a lesser lucha libre match than I expected, because it was just a collection of spots that happened to be taking place in a ring with a referee. There’s are no surprises here and no sense they’re even trying to make what they’re already doing working better, they’re just trying to find new things to throw in.
Electroshock, Heavy Metal, Jack Evans vs Chessman, Parka Negra, Texano Jr.: Dunno what happened, but this match was oddly short, as if they got the message to wrap up early. No one was in a hurry to leave the ring after the match (and AAA never seems to worry about time) so that couldn’t have it. What was left was a big Electroshock showcase with cameos from other people. Electroshock did look good doing all his usual big moves. It is nice to have a too short AAA match instead of the two long ones, but this just stuck out as peculiar.
