Guerrero Mixtico loses his hair, TxT struggles in Leon, Tama to return

IWRG (SUN) 09/29/2013 Arena Naucalpan [IWRG]
1) Mr. Leo b Emperador Azteca
Straight falls.
2) Alfa & Omega b Black Thunder & Fulgore II
Black Thunder’s first appearance on a regular show in a couple years.
3) Canis Lupus b Carta Brava Jr., Rayan, Astro Rey Jr., Fulgor I, el Ángel, Douki, Avisman [IWRG IC WELTER, final]
Douki’s first appearance on an IWRG show in 2011. Title became vacant when Dinamic Black left the company (worked too many IWL shows.) Worked as an eight way elimination match. Angel, Douki, Avisman and Astro Rey Jr. were all eliminated before a long four way segment with Carta Brava, Lupus, Fulgor and Rayan. It came down Brava and Lupus, and Canis Lupus won the title to become champion.
4) Dr. Cerebro, Relámpago (Coahuila), Toscano DQ Eterno, Fuerza Guerrera, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000
Eterno fouled Toscano for the DQ.
5) Alan Extreme, Black Terry, Dragón Celestial b Ciclón Black, Guerrero Mixtico, Tony Rivera [captains hair]
Karate Kid was with Team Tony Rivera pre-match (and post-match.) An elaborate process involving envelopes meant no one on either team knew who was captain until the match was over. In the third, Team Neza beat Dragon, team IWRG beat Ciclon and a bloody Black Terry defeated Tony Rivera. The commissioner opened the envelopes and it turned out Guerrero Mixitco was the loser. He tried to walk out but they made him come back and shave his head

I saw the title match; it was less chaotic than the lightweight title match though it was still eight man craziness. I’ve seen parts of the main event (all without the sound) and could not make heads or tails of what was happening until Guerrero Mixtico got his hair cut. That was the expected ending. They’re still setting up Black Terry versus Tony Rivera at some point here.

TxT’s fair show in Leon does not look like it drew well. Maybe 25-33%? Part of the reason it’s hard to believe Wagner and Park will ever get the money they want for their mask match is they might have already peaked in interest because it’s been done so many times. This time out, the singles match sure didn’t help. No results yet and I’m not sure if we’ll get them since it was all the way out in Leon. They did have the Cadena3 banners hanging, so it should turn up on TV at some point – maybe as soon as airing on Sunday.

Tama Tonga returns to CMLL on 10/09. The tag team tournament wraps up on 10/08, so they could do the title match as soon as the following Tuesday, or wait to Friday to run against the WWE shows. Though, it’s doubtful that a single person who wants to go to the first WWE show in two years is going to change their mind because CMLL’s running La Sombra & Atlantis versus Tama Tonga & Rey Bucanero. CMLL tends to build to the foreign threat losing at the end of their run, which makes this early title match very different. NJPW doesn’t give a return date for Tonga but I suspect he’ll be around for a while again this year; if NJPW is running a December tag team league, Tonga will probably leave in time for that.

Tonight’s Puebla show has another Indy Legends (UWA) versus CMLL match in Black Terry, Solar and Negro Navarro versus Atlantis, Blue Panther and Shocker. The main event continues the setup to a Mascara versus Mephisto title match, which should be one or two weeks away.

AYM/LAS has decided to start charging for it’s Internet feed. It’s mostly trying to make money off the Mexican Baseball League games (normal and winter league) that they cover. IWRG and the other programing just happen to be thrown in. It’s 99 Mexican Pesos a month ($7.50 USD) but anyone can get a month free if they sign up and you can pay thru Paypal if you subscribe.

Rob has video of 08/02/13 CMLL.

CMLL (SUN) 09/29/2013 Arena Coliseo [@therealfredo, CMLL, Terra]
1) Aéreo & Stukita b Mercurio & Pequeño Universo 2000
Tecnicos took 1/3. Stukita looked good in his return (first match since 04/30), while Aereo had an iffy match and Universo looked typically immobile.
2) Soberano Jr., Stigma, Súper Halcón Jr. DQ Camorra, Inquisidor, Nosferatu
Tecnicos took 1/3. Camorra blatantly fouled Stigma in the third. Super Halcon Jr. replaced Pegasso. Rudos were not much good.
3) Diamante, Fuego, Sagrado b Ishii, Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
Tecnicos took 2/3, Sagrado German suplexing Namajague at the end of a long third fall.
4) Guerrero Maya Jr. b Virus [lightning]
Guerrero Maya won via reverse suastica in 6:38 in a good technical match without big moves. Maya challenged for the Super Lightweight title and Virus accepted for next week.
5) Blue Panther, Shocker, Thunder b Tiger, Último Guerrero, Vangellys
Tecnicos took 1/3, Shocker beating Ultimo Guerrero via reinera.
6) Atlantis, La Máscara, Mistico b Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
Tecnicos took 2/3, tecnicos winning clean in the usual Rey Escorpion hard working match.

Didn’t even notice the tecnicos won every match until after the fact. Next week’s show is back in Arena Mexico.

CMLL Super Lightweight Championship matches in Arena Mexico
2003-09-02: Rocky Romero defeats Volador Jr. – final of initial tournament, title change
2003-11-14: Virus defeats Rocky Romero – title change
2004-12-10: Rocky Romero defeats Virus – title change
2009-04-07: Mascara Dorada wins 10 man cibernetico – vacant title, title change
2011-06-07: Virus defeats Guerrero Maya Jr. – title tournament, title change

The Super Lightweight champion has never kept the title in Arena Mexico. It’s really not as much about the title being a hot potato as CMLL doing very little with this particular belt. It was gone for about five years, it got backburned on Dorada’s reign (though somehow Dragon Rojo qualified for a title match) and it’s been not used near enough with Virus as champion. The odds are in favor of Guerrero Maya Jr. next week, but hopefully the odds are more in favor either Virus or Guerrero Maya doing more with this belt.

CMLL (SUN) 09/29/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Índigo & Meteoro b El Tapatío & Relampago Azul
Rudos took 2/3. Relampago Azul beat Meteoro.
2) Acertijo & Jocker b El Divino & Javier Cruz Jr.
Rudos took 2/3. Jocker beat Divino.
3) Halcón de Plata, León Blanco, Virgo b Espectrum, Exterminador, Magnum
Tecnicos took 2/3. Leon beat Exterminador.
4) Sky Kid & Smaker b Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno [OCCIDENTE TAG]
Rematch of tournament final. Tecnicos took 2/3, the last with simultaneous pins. Truenos fall in first defense, Sky Kid & Smaker win the titles for the titles.
5) Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja b Stuka Jr., Súper Popular, Valiente
Rudos took 1/3, Niebla Roja sneaking in a foul on Valiente for the win. Valiente challenged him to a singles match next week.

Niebla Roja versus Valiente should be a good match.

Cibernetico, Texano Jr., Pimpinela and La Parka were robbed at gun point when arriving in Ciudad Juarez today for a show. Cibernetico mentioned the incident on Twitter quite a bit, but has since deleted all the messages. I hope that’s a good thing.

AAA will interview Fabi Apache Monday night.

Terra says they’ll reair the 80th Anniversary show on 10/04 (Friday) at 1pm. The show hadn’t been put up in their TerraTV section after all (though it’s on YouTube now.) Maybe this will be without the slight technical difficulties of the live show?

AAA will have their annual Antonio Pena memorial mass next Saturday.

Lucha Libre in Japan

09/29 NJPW: Mascara Dorada [O], Captain New Japan, Tomoaki Honma, Togi Makabe b Bad Luck Fale, Rey Bucanero [X], Tama Tonga, Karl Anderson
Dorada actually involved in the finish! He was said to look good here, and seems to have won with something like a rope bounce casadora cradle. Tama Tonga indicated he was coming to Mexico very soon in post match promos.

09/29 WNC: Yusuke Kodama [O] & Serena b Hijo del Pantera [X] & Chik Tormenta
Chik Tormenta makes an appearance outside of REINA. Hijo del Pantera still keeps on keeping on.

Zeuxis did not win the REINA World Championship, which I never got around to mentioning because REINA did not get around to mentioning (and this promotion is so tiny that no one notices.) Zeuxis & Vaquerita are in the main event trios of the next 10/04 show – bizarrely, against the returning Yumiko Hotta, who declared she was closing the promotion (and at the very least had an ugly split.) Time and lack of money heals all wounds, I guess.

Super Crazy & Pesadilla appear to be on the next NOAH tour.

Lineups

CMLL (SUN) 10/06/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Shockercito & Último Dragoncito vs Mercurio & Pequeño Olímpico
2) Hombre Bala Jr., Stigma, Súper Halcón Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Camorra, Hooligan
3) Diamante, Sagrado, Tritón vs Boby Zavala, Misterioso Jr., Puma
4) La Máscara, Marco Corleone, Rush vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Tiger, Vangellys
5) Virus vs Guerrero Maya Jr. [CMLL SL]
Virus is champion, fifth defense
6) Atlantis, Máscara Dorada, Mistico vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero

Camorra versus Stigma is an actual feud? So random. (Sagrado vs Fiebre Amarilla is not one. 13 Sundays to go, though it’s probably more like 10-11 since Namjague will leave a few weeks early and then figure on a 3 week build and it’s 7 and I’ve over thought this parenthetical already.)

Virus vs Guerrero Maya should be really good, as should a lot of the other matches on the card.

Negro Casas outsmarts Rush, Super Porky versus Rey Escorpion

CMLL (FRI) 09/27/2013 Arena Mexico [@therealfredo, CMLL]
1) Cancerbero & Raziel b Hombre Bala Jr. & Súper Halcón Jr.
Rudos took 2/3
2) Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Tiffany DQ Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Marcela
Rudas took 2/3. Dallys refused to help Marcela the whole match and tried to steal the pin from her in the third, but only got her team DQed.
3) Kráneo, Morphosis, Psicosis b Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr.
Rudos took 2/3 in a good match. Stuka and Fuego wiped each other out on a dive, and the Invasors beat Guerrero Maya with a swinging gate match.
4) Titán b Niebla Roja [lightning]
Titan defeated Niebla Roja in a match full of big spots, but also Titan winning with a modified cerrajera in over 9 minutes
5) Mistico, Super Porky, Valiente DQ Averno, Mephisto, Rey Escorpión
straight falls. Porky furiously attacked Rey Escorpion in the second for an excessive violence DQ, then demanded a hair versus hair match.
6) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr. b La Sombra, Marco Corleone, Rush
Rudos took 1/3. Negro Casas put his feet on the ropes to beat Rush, in revenge for previous weeks.

As with last week, Terra aired the first four matches and then abruptly cut away. Unsure why they don’t make it clear they’re going to do that (and Terra seems unaware.) Terra did add a HD quality level; I think it’s actually a little short of HD size but it’s a big improvement over Alta.

I’m not convinced CMLL is going to bother to counter program the WWE show on 10/18, but Rey Escorpion vs Super Porky seems on pace to take place on the date, and there’s other issues (Dallys/Marcela, Negro/Rush, Avernos/Estetas) which could be scheduled for that show if they do it.

That lightning match was crazy and the Invasors match before it was a lot of fun.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 10/04/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Oro Jr. & Soberano Jr. vs Canelo Casas & Guerrero Negro Jr.
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany
3) Titán vs Vangellys [lightning]
4) Máximo, Stuka Jr., Super Porky vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
5) Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
6) Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Shocker vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

A main event with no particular issue. Semimain seems to continue a build to an Estetas/Avernos title match. Porky and Escorion feud in the fourth match. Titan and Vangelis is a matchup of the En Busca de un Idolo winners. Dallys still hasn’t turned ruda. Oro & Soberano is a really good team.

Traumas defend tag titles, CMLL preview

IWRG (THU) 09/26/2013 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), IWRG]
1) Látigo b Fulgore II
2) Alan Extreme & Zafiro b Alfa & Omega
Omega’s debut, after missing last week’s show. He lost to Alan’s Michinoku Driver.
3) Canis Lupus, Carta Brava Jr., Freyser b Centvrión, Chico Che, Golden Magic
Carta and Canis planchaed Chico Che.
4) Dr. Cerebro, Relámpago (Coahuila), Toscano DQ El Hijo del Medico Asesino, Eterno, Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr.
Medico’s first match here in a year. Wagner desperately fouled Toscano for the DQ.
5) Trauma I & Trauma II b Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 & Oficial 911 [IWRG IC TAG]
Traumas took falls 2/3 in their first defense. Third fall saw Trauma II beat 911 by a Gory Driver and Trauma I beat Mascara after 911 accidentally hit his partner with a chair. 911 & Mascara’s fought and challenged each other.

CMLL’s show tonight is headlined by Negro Casas & Volador vs Rush & Sombra (with Niebla and Marco thrown in.) The Brazo de Plata/Rey Escorpion issue continues in the semiman and the undercard has a few very good looking matches. The newest Terra preview still says they’re airing all six matches.

AAA is continuing to help with hurricane relief donations.

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about Sangre Chicana vs Ringo Mendoza from the 80s set. I’m going to get the 80s Lucha set at some point, but I have a lot of 52MXs to watch right now. (That is the saddest sentence ever written.)

Mil Mascaras’ next film is being crowd funded thru IndieGoGo. They have a long way to go (and it is one where they keep the money even if they don’t get to their goal.)

The Rush/Tanahashi CMLL Universal final airs tomorrow (tonight?) on SamrauiTV. Judging from the listing, they’re airing the top five matches and not the mini opener.

Another 80 Years Of Lucha Libre photo exhibit, but in San Luis Potosi.

Rob has Ice Killer Jr. highlights.

The Perros del Mal won a bowling tournament. Well, no, more a bowling team that’s just using that name. Bowling balls don’t staple well, not sure Psicosis would like them.
