Lightweight title match, Guerrero/Escorpion, Perro & Cibernetico vs La Secta

Tonight’s Arena Mexico show has two big singles matches. Electrico and Pequeno Nitro finish off the Mexican Lightweight tournament, with Electrico being the favorite but both having a chance for a good performance. It’s just over one year since Pequeno Nitro mask win over Aereo, and he’s also the 2010 Pequeno Reyes del Aire winner, but he has not won a championship. Likewise, Electrico has a mask win to his credit (Pequeno Black Warrior), but it’d be his first title win as well.

The other single’s match is Rey Escorpion taking on former leader Ultimo Guerrero. It’s only their second match since the split (though the third is not too far off, keep scrolling.) Guerrero out cheated Escorpion last November. It might be more the same today, since the Revolucinarios have been ahead in this feud so far.

AAA announced the main event the 08/30 Arena Naucalpan taping, the one which follows Friday’s show in Queretaro, is Perro Aguayo Jr., Cibernetico and Mesias versus Ozz, Cuervo, and Escoria. They’re pushing it as a big deal because Perro & Cibernetico are now teaming up. La Secta’s performance/treatment here may mean more going forward. It sounds like they looked very strong on the Mexico City taping and this is their first appearance since; a bad night could waste the previous effort, a good night could build on it.

El Hijo del Santo says Heddi Karaoui is the #1 contender to the yet to debut CMB Heavyweight Lucha Libre championship. I guess we’re not getting a four continent tournament or the other craziness he previously suggested? I do like it when Hijo del Santo seems to forget he’s supposed to be just a humble luchador and not the guy making matches and deciding championships.

The demolished Arena Isabel in Cuernavaca would’ve been 60 years old a couple of weeks ago. All stories about the building mention there’s not been a real home for lucha libre in the city since the building was closed in 2009, though there does appear to be a CMLL show in town this weekend.

The main event of tonight’s Arena Aficion show is Rush & Niko the Clown versus Danny Casas & Maximo. I don’t know how Maximo and Rush can be on different teams!

A MS-2, who may not be actual MS2 (there were a bunch), talks about his start and wrestling today.

The next CMLL show in Gimnasio Nuevo Leon is on 09/09,  with Atlantis vs Blue Panther vs Ultimo Guerrero for the vacant Azteca title.

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 08/19/2013 Arena Puebla
1) Asturiano, Camaleón, Milenium vs Artillero, Blue Center, Súper Comando
2) Leono, Starman, Stigma vs Cancerbero, Espíritu Maligno, Raziel
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Stuka Jr., Titán vs Kráneo, Morphosis, Psicosis
4) Atlantis, Rush, Thunder vs Mr. Niebla, Niebla Roja, Terrible
5) Rey Escorpión vs Último Guerrero [CMLL LH]
Escorpion is champion. 3rd defense.

Ultimo Guerrero is the greatest CMLL Light Heavyweight Champion in the 20+ year history of the title, accumulating 29 defenses over 3.5 years and solidifying himself as a top guy in the process. This is his first shot at it in six years, because he’s been busy being heavyweight champion. Sombra & Volador split their singles matches when they had a bunch of them in a short time and it may be the same here.

  1. Heads up, someone under the named “Tempestad” worked on the Saltillo card on 08/04 teaming with Guerrero Negro II & Negro Navarro against Solar, Tiburon Jr., & Espartaco. Don’t know if that was Santo’s kid or someone else (maybe Santo’s boy is still in Japan?).

  2. @Josh: Santo’s boy is back from Japan, but it’s a different guy wh’s been using that name for a while.
