taped 2013-07-09 @ Arena Mexico
Molotov & Sensei vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor: For a moment, it seemed like the crowd was too bored (and small) to boo after the técnicos won the second fall, but they powered thru and made noise. A strong performance by them. The match wasn’t so inspiring. Molotov, Apocalipsis and Inquisidor are never worth watching and Sensei may be getting the benefit of the doubt.
Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Luna Mágica vs La Vaquerita, Tiffany, Zeuxis: At least this match gave me a couple of gifs. Match that sounded not good turned out to be not good in non-shocking news. They tried, it’s just not there for some of them. Dalis is still having trouble keeping up, mentally even more than physically. I wonder if Estrellita got in trouble for her dive. Vaquerita was promising as Zeuxis’ Moves Amiga, maybe they’ll team up again some day.
Máscara Dorada, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. vs Namajague, Rey Bucanero, Tiger: Absurd this match got so much less time than the last. I assume they were making sure the title match would still get it’s time, but this one could’ve used it more. Namajague seems to have switched to winning only by cheating, which isn’t as interesting unless done in a different way, but everything leading up to is still a lot of fun. Rey Bucanero and Tiger don’t feel like the members of a group without Terrible around, but they worked well against unusual foes in Cometa & Stuka here. (Or not unusual, since they seem to be intersecting much more of late.) Dorada vs Namajague looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.
Averno vs Titán for the Mexican National Welterweight Championship: I was disappointed when Titan sent Averno out to the short side of the ringside area, because I knew it was over and I wanted it to go longer. (I wonder how I’d feel about this match outcome if I saw it live.) They’ve done this missed tope spot on that side of the ring before, but this one looked as good as any they’ve tried. The match before it was great too, competitive though more of a showcase for Titan than an even battle. He still looked like a rising star despite the loss, which is what a match with Averno will do for you. Averno’s now gone thru Místico and Titan, taking over Negro Casas’ role as killer of young técnicos.
Atlantis, Máximo, Thunder vs Mr. Niebla, Niebla Roja, Pierroth: Atlantis appears to be one of the easiest guys in lucha libre to work with, and Pierroth could not work well with him. It’s not that Pierroth is bad working with the flying guys, he’s bad with working with everyone. The Thunder/Mr. Niebla feud shows no promise; Mr. Niebla doesn’t seem interested in working with Thunder and he seems to have some good reasons. This had little chance of being any good and was not any good.
