Atlantis is unsure if he’s facing Ultimo Guerrero at Anniversario, Tuesday results, Super Popular

CMLL (TUE) 07/23/2013 Arena Mexico [Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), CMLL]
1) Camaleón & Höruz b Espanto Jr. & Herodes Jr.
2) Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior b Pequeño Halcón, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito
Rudos took 2/3.
3) Dalis la Caribeña, Dark Angel, Goya Kong b La Seductora, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany
Tecnicas took 1/3.
4) Ángel de Oro, Rey Cometa, Super Porky b Morphosis, Olímpico, Shigeo Okumura
Tecnicos took 1/3. Angel de Oro’s return. He submitted Okumura for the win.
5) Niebla Roja b Máscara Dorada [lightning]
Niebla Roja snuck in a foul on Mascara Dorada
6) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Pierroth b Atlantis, La Máscara, Thunder

Dorada has lost three straight weeks to three different people. I dunno. Meanwhile, Dark Angel hasn’t lost a trios match since January. The only match she’s lost since then here was that lightning match to Princesa Blanca (and Dark Angel beat her earlier in the year.)

CMLL (TUE) 07/23/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Metatrón & Sky Kid b Demonio Maya & Sádico
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Esfinge, Gallo, Soberano Jr. b Hijo del Signo, Maléfico, Ráfaga
Tecnicos took 1/3, Soberano beating Signo in the third.
3) Amapola, La Comandante, Princesa Sugheit b Lluvia, Luna Mágica, Marcela
Rudas took 1/3.
4) Ephesto, Misterioso Jr., Vangellys b Diamante Azul, Sagrado, Stuka Jr.
Rudos took 1/3, Vangelis beating Sagrado
5) La Sombra, Máximo, Rush DQ Euforia, Mr. Águila, Último Guerrero
Tecnicos took 2/3, UG fouling Sombra.

Sombra wins, get to sleep in his own bed for the first time in weeks.

CMLL is again pushed to 4pm this week, which means AAA is probably pushed to 5pm. Both groups keep presenting this as “a one week change”, but Televisa does not communicate with them about these things and I doubt they know any better than you and I. It’s been the new time for enough weeks that maybe we all should start assuming those are the times going forward.

Probably should’ve watermarked this!

My new fascination, Arena Coliseo Guadalajara’s Super Popular, finally had his photo revealed on the latest card for the arena. I thought it was strange how his mask looked very Olimpico inspired. Someone else pointed out he’s got a similar tattoo to Exodia, Olimpico’s son. Exodia debuted in 2009 and retired in 2010 after suffering a severe leg injury while wrestling in IWRG. Exodia’s only been seen once since his injury, appearing in the ring in the 2010 Anniversario show when his father was unmasked. Exodia was using a cane to get around, but still worse his mask. Perhaps that leg finally healed enough for a return (long or short – lot of people around for short times in Guadalajara lately.)

Even Atlantis doesn’t know if he’s having his mask match at the Anniversary show (or why it hasn’t just been announced yet.) Atlantis has no plans on retiring any time soon but is not thinking about the future until he gets past this mask match, and is somewhat concerned Ultimo Guerrero’s many henchman are going to try to injure him before the mask match.

IWL held a press conference from their 08/03 show, with the IWL and AULL wrestlers fighting each other before the show in AULL’s Arena Lopez Mateos. The recap mentions in passing that Impulso has left indy group XMW. A trio of Impulso, Ares and Mr. Leo had been scheduled to represent XMW in the usual trios tournament, but no XMW lucahdors will appear on the show.

Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero are headed to Los Angeles this Sunday.

La Vaquerita & Zeuxis team up in a tournament for the REINA Tag Team championship on 08/24

The first part of Jack Evans’s AAA interview. Find out why Steve Pain is his biggest rival. I enjoyed it! Vuelos del Cielo seems to be the Angelico & Jack Evans team name.

Rob has highlights of 06/21/13 CMLL.

Lucky Boy and Nino de Ebano know they’re short on experience but they’re going to give their best in every match.

Taya believes she’s the best luchadora, plans on beat Faby and getting a title shot.

R de Rudo looks back at el Santo.

Arena Coliseo Monterrey is going from Konnan Big to a technical battle between Rey Hechicero and Charles Lucero.

Ohtani’s Jacket catches up on more CMLL.

EDIT – LINEUPS

CMLL (MON) 07/29/2013 Arena Puebla
1) Black Tiger & Milenium vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Goya Kong, Luna Mágica, Marcela vs Amapola, La Vaquerita, Tiffany
3) Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skándalo
4) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa vs Kráneo, Morphosis, Psicosis
5) Stigma vs Espíritu Maligno [mask]
6) Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente vs Averno, Mephisto, Negro Casas

Forgot to include this, though it’s pretty much what you’d expect. I’d put the mask match last for the reasons I always think the masks matches should be last, but it’s a pretty packed show.

Stigma vs Espiritu Maligno, Halloween out of AAA, WWL, Casandro, Santo return date

CMLL (MON) 07/22/2013 Arena Puebla [El Popular (cover)]
1) Cholo & Guerrero Negro Jr. b Asturiano & Black Tiger
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Dark Angel, Estrellita b La Vaquerita, Princesa Blanca, Zeuxis
3) Diamante, Fuego, Sagrado b Arkángel de la Muerte, Raziel, Skándalo
Straight falls when the Tuareg turned on Raziel as usual.
4) Espíritu Maligno, Puma, Tiger b Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stigma
Unspecified rudo cheating to win. Stigma challenged Espiritu Maligno to a mask match, which will happen next week.
5) La Máscara, Rush, Thunder DQ Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.
Negro fouled Rush.
6) Diamante Azul b Último Guerrero [NWA LH]
UG’s second was Skandalo. Azul, being pushed strongly as a Puebla local than he has in the past, took falls 1/3 to keep the title in his first defense. UG was strechered out after taking the German suplex in the third.

Arena Puebla looks pretty full. Hopefully it is for the Espiritu/Stigma mask match next week. I really like that at least one branch of CMLL is following up on a feud from a cage match. As a Person On The Internet, I’m not going to doubt Espiritu Maligno.

Enrique Yniesta says Halloween is out of AAA and Perros del Mal. He doesn’t know the exact reason why, but does note Halloween being in a bad mood and it hurting his performance. Halloween’s match and breakup with Mary Apache on the Xalapa show also seemed like AAA were writing Halloween out for the time being. It leaves the Perros del Mal group as only Perro Jr., Psicosis, Daga and Taya; it seemed like AAA was bringing in Eita to bolster their numbers, but Eita doesn’t seem like he’s sticking around for much longer.

WWL announced their touring schedule for the next few months. It’s as ambitious as usual. They’ll be running shows in Mexico on September 5 and 7th (one of those in Monterrey), in the Dominican Republic on 10/05, in Puerto Rico on 10/26 and back in Mexico on 11/14 thru 16 (the week after the Lucha Libre Expo.)

May’s Details magazine had a really good long form story on Casandro. Among other stories (and less interesting than others), Casandro mentions the one dream he has left is to wrestle in Arena Mexico, but is unlikely to achieve because Arena Mexico has a ban on openly gay luchadors. CMLL says such a ban does not exist. Pimpinela Escarlata did fight in Arena Mexico in 2000 eight times (losing every single match.) Maximo is a straight man playing exotico; Casandro mentions he likes Maximo personally but hates that idea. CMLL’s hasn’t used a lot of exoticos of any types – it definitely helped Maximo take off very quickly when he started that character. There’s some sense in not wanting to have multiple exoticos to make them seem less special, but CMLL is otherwise okay with having multiple people playing the same exact character. It’s surprising Casandro hasn’t been on a DragonMania show, which does also suggest there’s some truth here.

The next Fuerza Imperial show will be on September 28th. That link has the mystery opener match result. Piratas plan on humiliating the Villanos.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Rebeldia won the first Copa Funcion Estelar.

Esther Moreno says her sister has always been mean to her.

Faby Apache, Argos, and Ultimo Gladiador visited as a hospital.

Kcidis has Volador making the big decisions.

Lucha Libre In Japan

NOAH: the team of Dual Force & Pesadilla are done in the GHC Junior Heavyweight tournament due to Dual Force’s injury. Kaiser & Gaston Mateo get a forfeit win and suddenly have a really good shot at advancing.

Lineups

CMLL (SUN) 07/28/2013 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Robin vs Akuma & Inquisidor
2) Metálico, Sensei, Soberano Jr. vs Camorra, Nitro, Nosferatu
3) Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa, Tritón vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) Ángel de Oro vs Puma [lightning]
5) La Sombra, Shocker, Titán vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Taichi
6) Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

CMLL started an Estetas del Aire/Hijos del Averno feud here a couple weeks ago, dropped it while dealing with other things, and seems to have brought it back just in time for a title match in the next couple of weeks.

Main event could be good. Tercera could be a lot of fun. Fourth match is a check to see where Angel de Oro is at physically. Fifth match should have it’s moments. It looks like CMLL’s keeping Metalico and Signo apart now.

CMLL (SUN) 07/28/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Capitan (Guadalajara) & Índigo vs El Tapatío & Samael (Guadalajara)
2) Brillante & El Ídolo vs Acertijo & Jocker
3) El Hippie, Leo, Tony Escobedo vs Demonio Rojo, Exterminador, Maléfico
4) Super Porky vs Kráneo
rematch from 06/25
5) La Máscara, Rush, Súper Popular vs Ráfaga, Rey Bucanero, Terrible

The last Kraneo/Super Porky match was on a Tuesday, so (they believe) this is a different audience.

TxT (SAT) 08/10/2013 Auditorio Benito Juarez, Veracruz, Veracruz
1) Black Baby & Mini Kahoz vs Ahero King & Black Power
2) Lady Apache vs Rossy Moreno, Esther Moreno
3) Diva Salvaje & May Flowers vs Diamante (local) & Oro (local)
4) El Hijo Del Santo & Rayman vs Heddi Karaoui & Zumbi
5) LA Park vs Dr. Wagner Jr.

Santo says this his return match.

IWRG was a repeat, at least on LAS. I figured out the taping dates for the SLP shows on Mexicanal, a very proud moment. I may go back and add in the old ones. I have last week’s Puebla, but this week’s show hasn’t aired.

1) Cristal, Seiya, Sky Ángel b Araña de Plata, Kimera, Latigo
Latigo replaced Fulgor I
2) Astro Rey Jr., Golden Magic, Miss Gaviota b Dagora, Imposible, Saruman
Saruman’s now on the rudo side. Magic still beat Impossible, still wants a title match.
3) Eterno, Súper Nova, X-Fly b Chico Che, Emo Extreme, Hijo de Pirata Morgan
Emo Extreme is turning rudo and wanted in the FdT, but they wanted nothing to do with him. Neither did the tecnicos. This made for a not good match.
4) Fuerza Guerrera, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Scorpio Jr. b Black Terry, Extreme Tiger, Veneno
Fuerza caused Terry to bleed and snuck in a foul for the win. More singles challenges betweenthem.
5) Dinamic Black b Decnnis [IWRG Rey del Ring]
Guapito and Impossible seconded Decnnis, Golden Magic seconded Dinamic Black. Decnnis took the first with a bridging pin, Dinamic the second with a Code Red. Decnnis smashed Dinamic Black with a large piece of dry wall when Dinamic went for a dive, but Dinamic survived and won with a top rope move (one report says Spanish Fly, the other says huricarana). Decnnis argued he got his shoulder up. Dinamic Black’s first defense.

Main event was said to be a lot of fun. Show of course didn’t air on LAS – they seem to be an every other week thing.

No one wants to be friends with Emo Extreme sounds like the best possible storyline. Latigo’s name turns up on DF shows since 2012, mostly Coliseo Coacalco. Dagora was on the last FILL show and Kimera is a new name (at least with that spelling; there’s was 06/07 wrestler with a Kimura.)

on Mr. Aguila and Infierno en el Ring

Friday’s night Infierno en el Ring match ended disappointingly quick to those in attendance, and to those of us who were following from elsewhere. CMLL’s cage match one fall finals are not lengthy matches, but usually last between 4 and 8 minutes with some near falls either way. Friday’s final lasted only about a minute, just as long as it took for three Shocker suplexes and his usual cradle. Mr. Aguila kicked out once and got in no offense.

This is not the first time Mr. Aguila’s been involved in a poor hair match final. Aguila’s last CMLL apuesta match is one of the most obscure CMLL major card main events in recent history. CMLL deemed the match too bad to air on Mexico TV, only posting clips of it on their YouTube channel. It did turn up on SamuraiTV, and was as bad as promised. Neither guy looked great, but it appeared Aguila was out of it. Aguila later told people he was drunk during that match, CMLL had fired him after the match, and only for Aguila to apologize his way quickly back into the company (at a greatly reduced pay.)

These are not isolated incidents. He was noted as looking drunk on a New Year’s Day show this year. Mr. Aguila has shown up on Mexico City TV in no condition to fight, including a Tuesday night show where his partners did their best not to let Aguila’s in the ring. It’s happened with enough frequency that there’s an easy tell – if he hasn’t done his facepaint, or hasn’t done much with it, there’s probably a bad reason for that.

Mr. Aguila is still pretty good when he’s in his right mind and condition. He’s also not the only person who’s had problems with alcohol or other substances, and definitely not the only one in lucha libre; alcoholism is frequently mentioned as the dominant substance problem in Mexican wrestling. Aguila’s had the misfortune for his issues to come out at the worst times, and it may cost him his job again; Aguila’s only scheduled for tomorrow in Guadalajara right now. (The trios title change looks either very fortunate for CMLL, or very suspicious.) Again, Aguila’s really good when he’s on and will find work even if it’s no longer with CMLL, but I hope his next move is fighting the problems that are dragging him down.

other news

Ricky Marvin says he’s retiring from wrestling? (I guess this suggests who’s winning the Pesadilla/Marvin title match.) Ricky Marvin could also just be in a mood; he’s either always unhappy, or only posts on Twitter when he’s unhappy. I hope he finds happiness someplace.

AAA tickets for their 08/02 Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera show are on sale. Tickets run from 359 MXP (28 USD) to 147 MXP ($8).

Vanguardia has a great long form article on lucha libre and life in La Laguna. It’s a lot about the gyms and the trainers and the area where they live. There’s an interesting side note; the Box Y Lucha commission in Gomez Palacio (one of the cities that make up La Laguna) has fallen apart, so there’s only one luchador who’s licensed by that commission – Blue Panther.

AAA interviews Jack Evans tonight on their weekly TwitCam chat. Ask him if he and Angelico have stolen any good tag moves lately. Ask him about the best toast he’s had. Ask him about Cruz Azul.

Internet favorite Lady Flammer won the 2013 Copa LLF Juvenil. The actual trophy is CMLL sized.

Faby Apache is proud to hold both of the belts a luchadora can hold in AAA.

No CMLL on TVC Deportes, at least until Thursday. Fusion and Tercera Caida are on about their normal times on Wednesday.

Lucha Libre (ish) in Japan

Dragon Gate announced CIMA would be out of action for an indefinite period of time “to recover and overhaul his physical conditioning.” This reads like part of a story they were telling about his title match loss and not a cancellation of his DTU dates. I guess there are things you can do in Mexico to improve your physical conditioning. (I didn’t really mean to imply whatever I just implied there.)

Command Bolshoi beat Leon to win the REINA International Championship on the 07/20 JWP show. Those results say the REINA Junior title, but that’s the one Zeuxis holds. I’d assume this is a story which will continue only in REINA, but Comando Bolshoi did appear in CMLL back in 2002 and 2003.
