NGX, Lightweight title vacant, En Busca de un Idolo to TV
NGX (SAT) 07/20/2013 Factores Mutuos, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon [LuchaMania Monterrey]
***Summer In Hell***
1) Xtreme Dragon b Psicotico, Vertigo [NGX FREE STYLE, semifinal]
Dragon Spanish fly on Vertigo. Best match of this tournament, which will finish with a three way on an upcoming NGX show.
2) Erick Snake b Aztek, Epidemius [NGX FREE STYLE, semifinal]
Aztek replaced Skam 13. Snake beat Epydemius. Bad match.
3) Neurosis b Disturbio (Monterrey), Byron Hooligan [NGX FREE STYLE, semifinal]
Byron Hooligan is the former Lord Byron, now meaner. Neurosis beat Disturbio.
4) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II b Chachorro Zapata, Dralion, Optumuz
Total technical match. Optumuz was not thought of on the same level as the other guys in this match but did well for himself (with still a few moments of nerves.) He was beat by Trauma I, Dralion beat Trauma II quickly after and dove onto Trauma I, and Navarro submitted Zapata. Money thrown in. Luchadors suggested a Zapata/Traumas vs Navarro/Dralion/Optumuz rematch. Dralion is specifically mentioned as a student of Zapata, but not related to Zapata or Optumuz (Zapata’s son.)
5) Aeroboy, Dance Boy, Kaientai b Joe Lider, Pagano, Sick Boy
Aeroboy and Kaientai did not get along, Aero eventually causing Kaientai to take the loss from Lider. Aero and Kaientai hyped their match on the ChilangaMask show while Pagano & Sick Boy asked for a NGX tag title shot.
CMLL announced yesterday that Mexican National Lightweight title is now vacant. That championship is traditionally for main division main luchadors, but has recently been used as a secondary minis championship. Or, more accurately, it has been a vanity championship for Pierrothito, who won in 2008 and has defended it about once a year since.
It will stay a minis championship, as CMLL has already announced a weird tournament to determine a new champion. It’s the standard two weeks of blocks for one final, but the blocks are six man ciberneticos, a much smaller field than usual. CMLL usually will just run one twelve man cibernetico for a field this size and I’m unsure why they’re stretching it out. Electrico, Bam Bam, Shockercito, Pequeno Halcon, Pequeno Violencia, and Mercurio, an unbalanced field are announced for next Tuesday’s cibernetico. That leaves nine pequeno estrella luchadors – Aereo, Astral, Acero, Fantasy, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior and Ultimo Dragoncito – for six more spots. (Demus is hurt, and world champion Pequeno Olimpico may not be involved.) My hunch is Stukita really is gone (the recent article about La Laguna lucha libre mentioned he was assistant trainer at his dad’s gym), Pequeno Valiente is never going to debut, and at least one of the other names is hurt to cause the small size for the tournament. My guess would be Electrico or Astral as the winner.
The other side of this is CMLL never actually mentions why the championship is vacant. In fact, the CMLL note never actually mentions Pierrothito by name. Pierrothito has been battling a shoulder injury, but has still been wrestling semi-regularly (which is about all the minis are getting of late) and actually appeared on both the Fox Sports and Televisa shows this past week. It could be that his shoulder went out in the match, the doctors have ruled it will be a long time before he’ll be able to return, and CMLL had other plans, but it’s not like CMLL has any plans for their minis championship in a long time and this title could’ve been on ice for a while. Pierrothito was not with the rest of the Boricuas on Tuesday and does not appear to be with the group last Friday (though I’m not completely sure about this.) It could be Pierrothito is just off getting better (recovering from surgery?) somewhere but, with AAA in Mexico City next week, there’s at least a minor chance Pierrothito’s left CMLL. (Also note that Thursday is the day I time to overthink things.)
CMLL, via a graphic on their website, also says Fox Sports 2 will begin airing En Busca de un Idolo season 2 this Saturday. It airs at 8:30 pm, which means it runs against the end of Cadena3’s show every week and makes it pretty tough to watch (or record.) It’s also on Fox Sports 2, which means no one is watching it, just like last year, and it’s likely to move around with little warning once US college football starts airing on the channel in a month or so. This week’s episode is not listed on the channel right now, listing boxing instead.
La Sombra has no regrets about losing the IWGP IC title because he knows it was a fluke (that he lost). Sombra’s now turning his attention back to Volador.
Rossy Moreno says she would prefer to fight Esther Moreno because “sisters have never fought in a hair match.” Uhh… Rossy Moreno also explains she decided to not return to CMLL and left AAA because they don’t treat women good enough. (Also, because they probably didn’t ask for her to come back.) Rossy also explains that at least half the people at Saturday’s TxT show will be there to see the women’s triangle match.
Lady Apache also talks positively about women being given a chance in TxT, and no one being given a better spot based on being related to someone. This is the promotion headlined by Hijo del Santo, in case you’re unclear.
This week’s Tercera Caida included Lady Apache as a guest. AAA Fusion was a repeat.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.
Lucha Libre in Japan
07/24 NOAH: Ricky Marvin b Pesadilla [XNL WORLD] – first defense. Ricky holds on to the title, must continue to fight. (He’s tried to be more upbeat on Twitter the last few days.) Match is said to be very good. I don’t really have a good sense of it, but my hunch is Pesdailla has done well for himself on this extended tour.

It’s good if these Cibernetico/Perro, Clowns/Consejo, MEXICAN POWERS VERSUS PERROS DEL MAL matches are all drawing, because I like to see people making money (and people get to pay to see what they want to see!) but I kind of want to scream. I am not interested in this lucha libre action. in Are we sure this is still a wrestling promotion and not a stage show that goes from town to town to do the same performance?
I am pretty sure it’s a wrestling show, because there are acts on the undercard who haven’t been around a lot. Something weird has been going on with the Rockers for months; first Machine Rocker was mysteriously absent on spot shows lineups and Soul has been not listed with the trio more recently. Now Devil is gone, though Pentagon Jr. is a nice big improvement over Uro Rocker. The minis also make their first TV appearance in a while in what might be the best minis trio match possible in AAA right now. Segunda is not new people – except for a rare Lucky Boy appearance without Nino de Ebano – but also should be really good.
