Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa vs Namajague, Puma, Virus:I have this theory that when Namajague finally goes back to NJPW, Rey Cometa will go with him so Namajague have exciting action against a familiar opponent as they reintroduce him. This was a thing Japanese promotions used to do, though not as much now except for the Taichi/Maximo feud. Instead of sending just those two guys, they should send this match with Namajague. This same trios match would’ve gotten over anywhere really well, because it was an exciting will done fast paced match. Everyone had their moments to stick out, there were great sequences, and pretty much everything not involving Delta worked out well. IT’s close to the Great line for me because of the limitations – It sure seems like CMLL has said ‘no dives in segundas and below’, though you can find an exception time to time, and this was a shorter match than they might have gotten higher on the card – but this was worth watching. Guerrero Maya and Virus were especially great together. That Virus isn’t defending that title against someone, anyone, at least once every two months is a shame. Most underutilized title.
Máscara Dorada, Stuka Jr., Super Porky vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto:I don’t remember what’s happened on shows by the time I recap them, especially Tuesday shows, so I saw this lineup, remembered they’re setting up Dorada vs Averno here two tapings from now, and figure this must play into that. Nope, not a bit, instead all about Averno versus Brazo de Plata and I’m not even sure if they’re ending up in whatever big match CMLL’s setting up here. This was the opposite of the last match; just a formula trios match with nothing particularly going on. The one great thing is the file running time was listed as 22 minutes, so it was a happy surprise when this one got done in the 15 minute range.
Rey Bucanero vs Diamante Azul for the NWA World Light Heavyweight Championship:There are parts of this I really liked, and there were parts which were really bad. It felt like Rey Bucanero put together a really creative match and Diamante Azul was doing his best to try to keep up (and couldn’t at times.) The action, and the creativity from normal was really good, and Bucanero did his very best to make Azul look great. It was Bucanero’s best singles match in I don’t know how long. It worked at times, and then at other times you had Diamante Azul slipping while trying to climb the ropes and Bucanero running over to bail him out of the spot and keep the match together, or the idea of reversing back and forth on a teased martinete but Azul isn’t quite agile enough to do it. I could’ve really also done with them finishing on the first German suplex – the piledriver that’s immediately ignored for a surprise cradle was a really dumb spot. It reads like I’m seriously negative on this match, but it was actually better than I thought it’d be after the early reviews, mostly due to Bucanero’s work.
Blue Panther, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpión, Shinsuke Nakamura: First fall had a lot of stalling and the rudos not exactly being on the same page, but it was a really great second fall. The Nakamura/Sombra stuff was really sharp here, but so was the Rey Escorpion and Blue Panther fight. The post match brawl was good fun too. Every singles hair match they’ve teased for Panther has seemed much more exciting than whatever multiman match they’re actually running.
