Viva La Lucha Kickstarter, AAA in Tampico, En Busca de Un Idolo, PdM 5th Anniversary, Lobos Americanos

Viva La Lucha’s Kickstarter went live yesterday. This is the project to shoot a pilot for a wrestling show and web episodes to go with. The plan using both Mexican and US indy luchadors, with the concept that the guys with differing styles would get more used to each other and used to working TV tapings, while the producers would have a show they could shop around. From the lucha side, Extreme Tiger, Bestia 666, Pesadilla, Mortiz and Hijo de Rey Misterio are mentioned as wanting to work the shows and they plan on bringing in at least one Solar/Negro Navarro type. They’re also working with Pro Wrestling Revolucion, so La Migra from TxT would be on the show, along with other familiar names. Bernado and Jose from Tercera Caida would be handling the Spanish Language commentary.

The various tiers include getting a live iPPV of the tapings, getting downloadable versions of the finished product, getting into a Q&A session with Konnan and Sean Waltman, and getting the vote on the one wrestler they’re bring in from England and AAA. There’s a lot more detail in the link if you’re the slightest bit interested, and they’re going to need a lot of people being interested: they need $60,000 to reach their goal, or it all the money gets refunded. They have a long way to go, but they also have until July 2 to get there. I plan on throwing in money, but I haven’t decided which level to go with. I think I kind of have to get at least the one with live Konnan commentary.

There’s an interview with Masked Republic’s Ruben Zamora about the Kickstarter campaign on the debut We Want Lucha podcast. They also have an interview with Konnan about his career.

AAA has an Evolucion taping tonight in Tampico. The big match for the show is Cibernetico vs Perro Aguayo Jr., leading into their hair match on TripleMania. The two have only had one prior singles match, back in 2008 in Monterrey as part of a Perros del Mal show. That match went to a draw, and that might be the inconclusive finish here. The semimain has another Consejo vs Psycho Circus match, where La Parka might get involved. AAA had a press conference for the show yesterday, and an autograph signing today. La Parka said AAA has always been a serious business.

AAA announced Blue Demon and Mesias would have their singles match at TripleMania. In a bit of surprise, it’s not for the Blue Legacy championship brought up in interviews, but for the now vacant Latin American championship. I’m also a little surprised they declared that title vacate; if Wagner is coming back to AAA, then Park could’ve always come back to continue the feud even more and just stayed champion. Apparently AAA doesn’t think that’ s happening. This feels like the first match of a longer feud (might take the thru the rest of the year), where the story of the result might be more about Mesias’ actions than the result.

AAA probably should announce more tonight. That La Parka vs Villano match looks like it should be clearer.

The first week of En Busca de un Idolo ended last night, with the polls for the first round closed. (It was opened, and Misterioso almost immediately had 15,000 votes.) Valiente got the full 40 poll points for winning week 1. CMLL Gaceta says Valiente ended up with 210,120 votes. (I’m suddenly tempted to give Valiente about five million votes to see what would happen.) Overall standings are

91 Valiente
72 Vangelis
62 Stuka Jr.
58 Hijo del Fantasma – who had a slight meltdown on Twitter last night after he found out people are messing with the polls. I gave him 300 votes to help him feel better.
45 Sangre Azteca
43 Misterioso Jr. – his totals add up to 33, so I think the poll point total has a typo
35 Fuego
28 Tiger

Full breakdown over on the wiki. Misterioso’s apparent strategy of losing, antagonizing the judges, and hoping his friends with basic javascript knowledge will carry him might not work. It is close though. Tonight’s matches has rebellious Misterioso versus front runner Valiente. It also has Hijo del Fantasma and Sangre Azteca, where the result actually might matter given their positions on opposite sides of the cut line. Terra should go live around 9:10 CT tonight.

The rest of tonight’s show at Arena Mexico includes another Sombra/Nakamura trios, and a rare appearance by Rey Cometa where he doesn’t face the demon Namajague.

No IWRG show last night due to the random cancellation.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Rob has highlights of 04/15/13 AAA.

Bill has highlights of 05/05/12 CMLL.

Lucha Libre in Japan

Super Crazy announced he’ll too be headed to NOAH. He says two months, and he’ll probably be Pesadilla’s partner in the tag tournament.

Titan had the day off from the NJPW Best of Super Juniors, but Mr. Cacao has many new Titan masks. Other wrestlers had matches but it scarcely matters since Titan’s clearly going to win the whole thing. Titan kicks off his epic run on Sunday morning against Barreta.

I bet “Raider” is Maiden in the opener. Pick a name people can spell, you’ll get farther in life.

PdM (SUN) 06/09/2013 Domo del Plan Sexenal
***Perros del Mal 5th Anniversary show***
1) ? vs ??

4) Psicosis vs Daga, Ricky Marvin, Peligro, Dowki, Eita [PdM MIDDLE]
new championship
5) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo vs Cibernético, Canek, Dr. Wagner Jr.

I’m pretty sure Perros del Mal already held a 5th Anniversary show, but this time it might be the right year.

Hooray, a new title that’ll be defended maybe once a year. Congrats to Ricky Marvin?

Main event is the same match as the Arena Lopez Mateos anniversary show, except Cibernetico replaces Park.

FLM (SUN) 06/30/2013 Auditorio Siglo XXI, Yucatan, Merida
1) Ángel del Misterio, Dave The Clown, Demasiado, Psico Kid vs Dragosth, Gargola, Golden, Juana La Loca
Psico Kid’s team represents ICHIBAN, the other team are members of Demencia Dorada
2) Fly Warrior, Shadow, Tornado (DF) vs Belial, Fly Metalik, Metaleon
3) Faby Apache & Keira vs ? & La Sádica
Mystery luchadora is Canadian
4) Argenis, Fenix (AAA), Yuta vs Argos, Crazy Boy, Pentagón Jr.
Nino Harmburgesa will be with Crazy Boy
5) Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Silver King, Texano Jr. vs Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, Tomahawk T.T.

Lobos Americanos! Seemingly one of a few shows the ROH guys will be appearing on; Fusion Sports is bringing them in. DTU also announced Edwards & Davey would be in for them in July. Probably early July! Davey worked for IWL in 2011 and was supposed to be back for Daga’s show, but there was an odd story where he said he was hurt in a car accident but still worked a show in the US shortly before. This would be Edwards’ debut in Mexico.

Yuta and Tomahawk are on the card, but Eita is conspicuously absent.

  1. Perhaps the hair challenges is a quickly put together Infierno en el Ring event in late June or July and not a longer, pre-medicated plan for the 80th Anniversary

It is CMLL after all, what has better odds “Quickly put together feud” or “longterm storyline”?
