(How weird is it that I talk to myself? Maybe I’m really Jhon Crazy.)
There are actually reasons to announce surprise luchadors: you may not know if they’re actually going to be there. My hunch is the first mystery person is a foreign guy to come in – a three way final of Jeff Jarrett vs Mesias vs LA Park would make a lot of sense – but they may not be locked down. (If Jarrett IS locked down, they probably should be advertising it, but they didn’t in December either.) The second mystery guy looks like someone to fight Jack Evans, which seems like the return of Teddy Hart but you never know with that man.
Octagon Jr. is not on the card. Over on Samuray del Sol’s calendar, this date is now listed as
Lucha Libre Triple AAA (Rey de Reyes) “Octagon JR” (Not Comfirmed Programming Issues TBD)
I’m sad this hasn’t worked out. Either Heavy Metal or Octagon are probably in his spot.
AAA posted a video interview with Blue Demon, talking about his title match. I’d expect the Demon challenge bit to air this weekend, in some format.
Eight matches, when they’re only airing 2 (or a third heavily edited match) seems like it’s 3 weeks of national TV: one week of the 3 group matches, second week of the Fusion/Reina tournaments, and a third week of the Rey de Reyes final and the Texano/Demon title match. Even if the Demon title match was announced late as far as trying to build it on TV to sell tickets, it’s still going to be pushed for weeks on TV before it airs.
There’s no story really built to a climax here outside of the Demon/Texano match (and we’re making an assumption it’s a one match and done situation.) The two existing tournaments were set up by a tournament on a different show – a show never advertised or even acknowledged as existing on the AAA Sin Limite show, and maybe those matches are actually planned to only be aired on Fusion. The Clowns & Rockers have interacted this year, but are basically the same place we left them at Guerra de Titanes. The Rey de Reyes groups reflect ongoing feuds, which is often how they’re done, but everything is just killing time.
That’s not to say AAA hasn’t done anything the last few months. The Roldans feud, and the end of La Sociedad, has been a slight focus of main Televisa show and a bigger part of the UTDN 2 hour version. It’s not really reflected at all in this card; not just in no match involving the Roldans, but that Konnan and Dorian were running things for the rudos but the rudos don’t seem that much worse off with their protectors gone. There had to be a reason they ran that big firing angle in a random taping in the middle of February, a stretch of time they weren’t really working on any stories, but that reason isn’t obvious yet. (Even the idea that they Dorian & Konnan were going to be busy with the US promotion doesn’t make sense, since both still appear to be at every taping.) Maybe there’s an explanation on this show.

Depending on how Garza’s surgery and chemo went, five months is enough time to return. Sadly I know people who have returned to work that fast b/c of no health insurance or comp.
It would make sense that Garza was the person Toscano was on the phone with. And returning in Monterrey would be big. Latin Lover also comes mind because of the city RdR is in. Lover is due to return somewhere even though he was very ill last year.
Extreme Tiger? Vampiro(sorry, he’s always a possibility).
@LLL: I’m not saying you are wrong, but it’d be crazy to bring Hector Garza back from cancer in his hometown and not get the word out ahead of time.
@thecubsfan: I don’t know if it would sell more tickets. He was not really a big draw before falling ill. He almost has to come back unannounced because it would be impactful in my opinion. I would not expect AAA to bring Garza back announced if/when he is able to return. I hope he does return.
But I’m wrong alot in 2013. Like predicting Mania at Palacio.
