Reyes del Aire, Rey de Reyes, new Rey of WWS

IWRG (THU) 02/14/2013 Arena Naucalpan [IWRG]
1) Dragón Celestial b Serpiente de Oro
2) Ángel Del Amor, Chico Che, Freelance b Alan Extreme, Danny Casas, Imposible
Freelance replaced Saruman and looked good. Angel de Amor made his IWRG debut.
3) Centvrión, Dinamic Black, Golden Magic b Apolo Estrada Jr., Canis Lupus, Eita
4) Factor, Súper Nova, X-Fly b Dr. Cerebro, el Ángel, Hijo de Pirata Morgan
5) Carta Brava Jr. b Cerebro Negro [WWS WELTER]
Cerebro Negro was champion, trying for the second defense. Cerebro took the first quickly, and Carta Brava won the second just as fast. Long third fall, with Carta Brava Jr. using the Cerebro driver to win the title in a bit of a surprise. Eight champion since the title came to IWRG.

CMLL Gaceta previews tonight’s Arena Mexico card, headlined by La Sombra vs Volador Jr. for the 2013 Reyes del Aire. Volador has won this tournament 3 times, but not in recent years. Sombra has never won, but was only in one prior to this year. Sombra has a recent title win over Dragon Rojo in Japan and a title defense over Mephisto in Guadalajara. Volador has been good form in matches, but not so much in results.

2012-10-16 Arena Mexico 6 of 6: La Sombra b Volador Jr.
2013-01-11 Arena Mexico 6 of 6: Bufete del Amor DQ Mr. Águila, Psicosis, Volador Jr. [CMLL TRIOS]
2013-01-20 Korakuen Hall 5 of 6: La Máscara b Volador Jr. [MEX LH]
2013-01-29 Arena Mexico 5 of 6: Rey Escorpión b Volador Jr. [CMLL LH]

I’m overlooking a Mascara vs Volador Guadalajara match in there, and those loses were preceded by wins over Diamante Azul and La Sombra. Still, Volador could really use a win and I figure he’ll find a way.

The Ultimo Guerrero vs Atlantis, Amapola vs Estrellita and Namajague vs Stuka (without the other two) feuds continue on in undercard matches. Still looking for clarity about which, if any, of this matches will resolve at Dos Leyendas (which doesn’t have an announced date.)

AAA announced Rey de Reyes 2013 will take place on March 17th in Monterrey. No venue is announced; they’ve run major shows in Arena Monterrey and TV tapings in Arena Coliseo Monterrey. The next TV taping for AAA is in Irapuato this Monday, and they should be laying out the major matches for Rey de Reyes at that time. The recent Daga, Dark Dragon vs Fenix, Drago match in Arena Coliseo Monterrey ended with Fenix beating Daga and the two agreeing to a Cruiserweight title match ‘next time they’re in Monterrey’, which felt more locked in than the usual post match challenge. Fenix has since pinned Daga on AAA TV, so they may be headed to that title match (though AAA cruiserweight matches tend to include many more people to dilute the action.)

(This has nothing to do with anything except trying to figure out who else they’d thrown in – but Jack Evans hasn’t been around since Guerra de Titanes. He’s been on lineups, but I have no results or TV appearances for him.)

AAA Fusion aired the second part of the combined show with WAVE, featuring the Reina de Reinas final between Kaguya and Sexi Star, and an atomicos with Pimpinela, Lolita and a very emotional Fenix.

Bill has highlights of 10/23/12 CMLL.

Crazy Boy is listed on an AAA show in late April. He’s probably returning before then on a DTU show, but that gives the range.

Tonight’s show with AAA wrestlers in Tijuana includes Octagon Jr. He’s not been gone near as long as Crazy Boy, I swear.

Rompe Huesos looks back at El Signo’s career.

Hijo del Fishman and Hijo de Rey Misterio (II), in Chicago for the FMLL show in Chicago proper on Sunday, are having a title match on Saturday night out in the suburbs.

El Hijo del Santo turns Valiente’s Day into an occasion to write about how great his father was.

Antifaz del Norte is wrestling this Sunday in Arena Coliseo Reynosa; I didn’t know Antifaz was still around.
