1) Araña de Plata Jr. & Fulgore b Astro Rey Jr. & Seiya
straight falls for the rudos.
2) Chico Che, Freelance, Suicida b Alan Extreme, Apolo Estrada Jr., Avisman
Said to be very good, money thrown in the ring. Suicida’s first match here since August.
3) el Ángel b Trauma II [IWRG IC MIDDLE]
Trauma tried to take the belt back to his corner after the pre-match photo, which annoyed Angel into hitting him. Trauma fought back and came off as the rudo while winning the first fall with a powerbomb in a minute. Angel won a quick second fall, then took the third with an armbar in a long third fall to keep the title. Trauma was too over confident and sucked into the armbar. Fourth defense.
4) Factor, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Toscano b Extreme Tiger, Trauma I, Veneno
Mascara & Toscano had no problems. Rudos took 1/3, Mascara pinning Veneno. Trauma was hurt on a dive in the third fall to Toscano.
5) Negro Navarro b Texano Jr. [FLLM MASTER]
Seconds were Trauma II and Mascara JR. Negro Navarro submitted Texano in the first, Texano beat Navarro with a backbreaker in the second. Mascara interfered a lot in the third, and Trauma II did a dive on him. Referee ejected Mascara, so Toscano showed up as Texano’s second. Texano was not happy with this, and while Texano and the ref looked at Toscnao, Trauma II gave Texano a reverse neckbreaker. Navarro submitted Texano to keep the title. At least the second defense for Navarro.

Trauma II mentioned his brother hurt his knee and ankle in his match.

CMLL has updated today’s Puebla lineup to rename the new guy “Thunder.” There was no Thunderbird, there’s never been Thunderbird. He’s not the first Thunder – there’s a guy around Reynosa who was using that name at least a year ago, and I have a result of someone using the name Thunder in 1991. Of course, “Trueno” – the luchador who seems to be out of CMLL at the moment – is also Spanish for “Thunder.”

Rob suggested he beat teamed with Relampago, and I agree as long as it’s the Relampago Azul from Guadalajara and not the Mexico City guy. Definitely not the Mexico City guy.

Rob posted highlights of early April 2002 CMLL. I distinctly remember the Giant Singh/Giant Silva trios match being *** stars, which is about *** better than I thought it had any right to be. They worked like 3 spots in the match and the rest was due to Dr. Wagner Jr. having a good match back in his pre-annoying days (I miss those), but the 3 spots were absolutely fine.

Photos, though no results, from Satuday’s AAA show in Cuilapam.

The Ichiban Street Fighter show looks amusing (scroll down to the last pictures.) Black Mamba was hurt on the show and did not finish his match.

Lucha Libre in the US (more or less)

01/25 DGUSA:
– Samuray del Sol b Eita [11:30]

01/26 DGUSA:
– Rick Swann b Eita [13:53]
– AR Fox b Samuray del Sol [12:39]

01/27 DGUSA:
– Chuck Taylor b Eita [12:48]
– Samuray del Sol b Ryo Saito [14:51]

All shows available on WWNLive. Eita’s lack of success probably means he’s not progressed enough to return to the greater Dragon Gate universe right now. It’s IWRG’s gain.

4) Espectrito Jr., Halcón Guerrero, Mini Histeria b Dinastía, Odín, Premier
5) Ricky Marvin & Super Crazy b Fenix (AAA) & Pesadilla [GHC JH TAG]
Ricky Marvin & Super Crazy came in as champions. Challengers isolated Marvin early, but he was able to make a tag to Super Crazy and became chaotic from there. Fenix did a dive off the light structure. Marvin beat Pesadilla to keep the titles. Fourth defense.

No idea what they were expecting as far as attendance for this show, but it drew about as well as I would’ve guessed. They may have had some helpful sponsor money judging by the ads. I’d suspect this isn’t the last title defense in Mexico before they go back to Japan.

BSW (FRI) 01/25/2013 Auditorio de Tijuana [The Gladiatores]
1) Silencio Negro b Black Zaygon

2) Dementor & Pitbull b Eternus & Tapatio Jr.
3) Angel Garces, Star Boy, Urzus b Angel Negro, El Profeta, King Azteca
Angel Garces challenged King Azteca to a hair match. Azteca said he was no stepping stone and refused.
4) Mortiz DRAW Arandú
Not really a TLC mach, but a hardcore three falls one. They split the two first falls, then couldn’t return after a Mortiz Spanish Fly out of the ring thru plywood. Mask vs hair challenge followed.
5) El Hijo Del Santo & Rayo de Jalisco Jr. b Cien Caras Jr. & Dr. Wagner Jr.
Santo/Rayo took 1/3, with Cien and Wagner accidentally hitting each other in the third leading to the tecnico win. Cien attacked Wagner after the match, with Santo & Rayo making the save and agreeing to get along.

KrisZ heard a report of 10,000 here, which would be the biggest number in a long time. News reports say it was a decent turnout, which suggests less (but even a decent turnout is a lot better than what they were doing here a year or two ago.)

CMLL (SUN) 01/27/2013 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Guerrero Negro Jr. & Inquisidor b Génesis & Oro Jr.
Pompin was the referee. Rudos took 1/3, Negro backcracker on Oro and Inquisidor Storm on Genesis. Genesis had a poor match. Oro needed help to leave the ring and seemed to be in a lot of pain after the match.
2) Demus 3:16, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior b Acero, Fantasy, Shockercito
Referee was Terror Chino. Acero replaced Electrico, who was supposed to return here. Rudos took falls 1/3, then declared themselves the Pequeno Temerarios after the match.
3) Pegasso, Starman, Stigma b Arkángel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skándalo
Referee was Tigre Hispano. Rudos took 2/3, Arkangel powerbombing Pegasso for the win.
4) Dark Angel b Princesa Blanca [lightning]
Referee is Pompin. Dark Angel won in 8:53 with a reinera in a good match.
5) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. DQ Averno, Black Warrior, Negro Casas
Referee was Terror Chino. Tecnicos took 1/3. Delta pinned Negro with a casita in the first, Negro pinned Delta with a casita in the second. Warrior strangely pulled Guerrero Maya’s mask off seconds into the third fall, ending the match suddenly. Rudos took all the tecnicos masks after the match.
6) Máscara Dorada, Shocker, Valiente b Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
Referee was Tigre Hispano. Tecnicos took falls 2/3, Valiente giving both Polvora and Dragon Rojo the Valiente Buster to win. Valiente demanded a shot at Polvora’s title (though oddly not Dragon Rojo’s!) Polvora declared he was better than Valiente, and accepted the title match. Shocker called Polvora scared.

CMLL (SUN) 01/27/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Azteca de Oro & Meteoro b Relampago Azul & Thunder Boy
Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Demonio Maya & In Memoriam b Höruz & Idolo
Finish is unclear, but appears rudos took 2/3.
3) Sádico b VirgoEl HippieJavier Cruz Jr.El PirañaSky KidEl DivinoBrillante [OCCIDENTE WELTER, semifinal]
Sadico used a martinete variation to beat Sky Kid for the win. He faces Leo for the vacant title next week. Sky Kid was strechered out.
4) Bárbaro Cavernario b Halcón de Plata [OCCIDENTE MIDDLE]
Barbaro Cavernario came in as a champion. Halcon took the first (2:00), Barbaro stole his mask and pinned him in the second fall (2:12), and Barbaro took the third to keep the title (13:44, total of 17:56, times are a little estimated.) First defense.
5) Mephisto, Terrible, Tiger b La Sombra, Máximo, Rush
Rudos took falls 1/3.

Crowd seemed to be into the show, despite the first three matches not being much and the fifth match ending abruptly and disappointingly. I got the sense they were setting up Delta/Negro Casas as Negro continues to face/beat all the young tecnicos, but obviously it’d have to be some weeks down the road since Valiente/Polvora is the next week.

The most interesting show of the weekend is one I don’t have any results for. That FMLL show in Los Angeles, with the poster of a ton of Independent, CMLL and even AAA guys which couldn’t possibly with those guys, happened with many of those guys. El Hijo del Santo posted Twitter pictures of him with Negro Navarro, Mascara Sagrada, Solar, Rayo de Jalisco, Blue Panther, and Atlantis and with Volador & La Mascara. Back in 2007, angry CMLL management declared that anyone who worked with Hijo del Santo would not be able to work with CMLL. Loco Max got in a lot of trouble for doing this at that time, and that is the stated reason IWRG are prohibited able to bring in CMLL wrestlers. (Santo worked there twice, and not since 2008, and still CMLL won’t work with them.) By the rules at that time, Atlantis, Blue Panther, Volador and La Mascara should all be getting fired today. They are not getting fired – this ruling has apparently softened over the years, or at least the minis have been very skilled at getting around it. This is the first time, to my knowledge, the major stars have worked a show with Santo. I don’t know what that means going forward, but I tend to believe this might mean a chance of policy in where CMLL guys are allowed to work (perhaps forced by there being less work), but no change in CMLL management’s feelings. The wrestlers never have problems with each other (or picking up extra bookings), it’s the management and Santo who have the issues. Same thing with Dr. Wagner Jr.(who had an incident with a fan) and LA Park (who was listed as working but I haven’t seen a photo of yet.)

Attendance for the LA show seemed about half the building (LA Sports Arena) (here’s another), which would be about 8,500, give or take a couple thousand.

An Alberto Del Rio interview on Yahoo! Deportes says there’s no date for a WWE return to Mexico and no plans for one. They haven’t made as much as they thought – pirated merchandise is blamed, and half full arenas is not mentioned – and so the WWE is focused on other countries for the time being. This has been evident for a while, since there’s been no word of a Mexico City show since that double taping, but confirms the suspicion that Mexico has slipped in priority. Still, it’s the TV that has the biggest impact, and while the ratings have dropped a lot since they debuted in 2009, there’s no sense it’s going anywhere. Del Rio’s previously suggested he might return to Mexico to wrestle after his career, but he says here he wants to work backstage for WWE when he retires.

Straight falls, with the rudas getting DQed for excessive violence and shoving the ref in the second.
4) Ephesto, Mephisto, Namajague b Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr.
Namajague and Stuka continued to rip at each other’s masks. Mephisto surprised Maya with a Devil’s Wings for the win.

Monito and Zacarias fought. Niebla used a ref distraction to foul Atlantis for the win.

Rudos took 1/3.

Thunder – he’s back to that name now, CMLL is disorganized – appeared before the crowd this week. He’s using the obvious choice of AC/DC’s Thunderstruck as his music. He’s headed to Arena Coliseo Guadalajara on 02/05. Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 02/01/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Sensei & Soberano Jr. vs Camorra & Guerrero Negro Jr.
2) Fuego, Hombre Bala Jr., Super Halcón Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skándalo
3) Dark Angel, Estrellita, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit

5) Máximo, Rush, Shocker vs Mephisto, Terrible, Último Guerrero

CMLL said this is the first phase of the Reyes del Aire; we’re assuming that to mean it’s two weeks of ciberneticos and a final.  (CMLL has enough people to do 3 or 4 weeks, but they probably aren’t.) The largest ever field for this tournament means top guys who were kept out of this are back: Sombra hasn’t been in this tournament since 2008 and Volador, who figures to be in next week’s group, hasn’t been in since 2009.  That kind of seems like the most likely final, though I think Titan has a decent shot. We can probably pencil in Namajague & Stuka as the double elimination.

Best guess at next week’s 16
Tecnicos: Mascara Dorada, Angel de Oro, Valiente, Guerrero Maya Jr., Triton, Fuego, Hombre Bala Jr.
Rudos: Volador, Mephisto, Niebla Roja, Rey Escorpion, Puma King, Psicosis, Raziel, Cancerbero

The big question: will Mistico be healthy enough to compete? He’d be the very obvious favorite if he had two working shoulders.

Amapola/Estrellita feud has gone on so long with no title match or other end in sight. A hair match at Dos Leyendas seems reasonable to me now, they have to be stretching this out for some reason.

1) Galaxy & Sky Ángel b Atomic Star & Dragón Celestial
One fall. Arana de Plata Jr. was replaced. Results list it as Atomic Boy, but it appears to be trainee Atomic Star.
2) Saruman & Seiya b Epidemia & Imposible
3) Centvrión, Chico Che, Dr. Cerebro b Apolo Estrada, Avisman, Black Terry
said to be a very good match. Apolo Estrada’s first match here since March.
4) Dinamic Black, Extreme Tiger, Veneno b Canis Lupus, Cerebro Negro, X-Fly
Dinamic Black’s mask was ripped and he bled again, but this time he was able to beat Cerebro Negro. WWS Welterweight title match is on for next week.
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro, Oficialito 911, Oficialito AK47, Oficialito Fierro b Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Muerte Bucanera, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr., Piratita Morgan, Piratita Morgan Jr. [cibernetico]
Highlight was all three minis working together to beat Pirata Morgan Sr. Match came down to Hijo de Pirata and Oficial 911, with 911 using a distraction to foul Hijo de Pirata for the win.

GALLI (SUN) 01/20/2013 Arena Galli [KC]
1) Jake Shinning & Mason Conrad b Joe Firoz & Negro Thunder
Shinning superkicked Joe for the win. Negro Thunder replaced Freek
2) Atomico, Discovery, Golden Dragon b Chico Suave, Destructor I, Destructor II
Discovery and Chico Suave were added to the match (they had a match with Traidor and Rey Fuego)
3) Prince Mustafa Ali b Kenny Sutura
Kenny Sutra replaced Bandolero
4) Matt Creed, Rob Michaels, Tommy Heisman, Will Moah b Dark Scorpion & Emperador Azteca
4 on 3 – Funebre was out hurt, and Calvin Beckham didn’t want to show up still bald. Rob Michaels replaced Furia Roja. Traidor was added to the rudo side, but they still lost.
5) Acid Jazz & Negrotistico DQ Jon Morales & Matt Knicks
The rest of the Syndicate attacked the tecnicos for the DQ.
6) GPA, Mike Anthony, Mojo Mcqueen, Punisher 747 b Marshe Rockett, Pentagano, Ripper, Willie Richardson [elimination]
Stips were the rudos (UWC Nation) had to leave if they lost, but they got control of GALLI if they won. Elimination rules: Punisher and Willie brawled to the back for the DCOR, Marshe beat Mojo, Syndicate distracted Marshe to set up a GPA pin, GPA pinned Pentagono on his own, and then Ripper laid down to give GPA the win, turning on the tecnicos. Ripper ripped up his GALLI t-shirt and beat up the promoter when he tried to get involved. Tecnicos ran the rudos off.

Today’s CMLL show is headlined by the losing side from the recent world trios title match, Mr. Aguila, Psicosis, and Volador, versus three tecnicos back from Japan, La Sombra, Mascara Dorada, and Titan. Both the Stuka/Namajague and Estrellita/Amapola feuds continue, and there’s a special Atlantis vs Mr. Niebla lighting match.
