09/14 CMLL Anniversary Show Lineup

CMLL.com

CMLL (FRI) 09/14/2012 Arena Mexico
***79th Anniversary Show***
1) Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany
2) Delta, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Niebla Roja
3) Ángel de Oro, La Sombra, Titán vs Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Taichi
4) Rey Cometa vs Puma King [mask]
5) Atlantis, Mistico, Prince Devitt vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
6) Rush vs Terrible [hair]

Either the Guerreros get back together this Friday, or that’s a free win for Atlantis, Mistico and Devitt. (They should do Prince Devitt vs Negro Casas this time.)

Probably not much of a story in the bottom half of the card, though they’ve put together a Mexico vs Japan trios in the tercera. (The tercera is the new main event.) That match could be good, as could a lot of the ones on this card.

I was all set to be upset about Dalis making the lineup, but then I couldn’t figure out who she actually be there. I guess maybe Estrellita (who was doing interviews talking about how she should be on this card this morning; this is probably not news to here), but it’s hard to worked in Estrellita’s defense. There’s no good candidates. It’s easier to argue that Lady Apache should be on the show instead of Tiffany, or that CMLL really shouldn’t have a women’s match on the show this year.

  1. First.

Pretty good looking card with lots of variety. You could pick it apart if you wanted like getting rid of Dalys, Tiffany, Efesto & Delta for a tag match, Euforia & Mascara Dorada but no card will ever be perfect for everyone.

The most important thing here is someone in the office actually came to their senses and decided NOT TO RUN A COMPETING SHOW AGAINST THEIR OWN ANNIVERSARY unlike last year’s absolute debacle.

Volador/Averno/Niebla are notable MIA’s but they aren’t office favorites so it’s understandable. La Mascara/Maximo/Super Porky being shutout while 4 (5 if Felino or Tiger second Puma King? 6/7 if the relationship rumors are true?) Casas family members make the lineup says a little about who is in power backstage at the moment.

People shouldn’t get overly excited at that semi-main because odds are it will be 100% angle with UG/Dragon Rojo splitting up. Just a way to calm the crowd down after the mask match so they are ready to get going again during the hair match.

If you have any issues with this lineup let me just remind you of two things:

    1) Hijo Del Signo semi-main evented last year’s Anniversary Show.
    2) Last year’s Anniversary Show had 4 matches, one of which included the Rayos Tapatios against Hombre Bala Jr. & Super Halcon Jr.

  2. If i was booking CMLL Anniversary show, i would do this:

I would not allow edecanes to appear, it’s not a sexist thing, it just is a matter to give a more credible image to the world….a statement of beign a serious lucha card….ok, no, forget about it.

    1) Demus 3.16 vs. Ultimo Dragoncito (lightning)
My outcome: Demus sending Dragoncito again to the hospital after a Burning Hammer, setting up a feud that would last till December with Demus losing his hair (in Arena Coliseo, not La Mexico, mind you).

    2) Shocker, Titan & Valiente vs. Rey Bucanero, Misterioso Jr & Virus
My outcome: Tecnicos win with Titan getting the win over Virus, who can be a great challenge por the Nacional Welter, which could need some credibilityforn Titan. Valiente wolud be doing his normal esciting stuff and Misterioso would be excited and deliver. Oh, and you can put Stuka or Diamente, because Shocker will not show up, he is still not the same since he came back form AAA in 2006, at least that’s hown i see it.

    3) Sombra, Diamante Azul & Guerrero Maya Jr vs. Euforia, Black Warrior & Mister Aguila
My outcome: I like this match for all the creative possibilities it has, really. Maya is a hell of a talent with those awesome moves and Diamante Azul needs to showcase his great wrestling, but the Trios Champions are amazing and in a roll, so the rudos win after Euforia destroys Maya with a powerbomb type move.

    4) Rey Cometa vs. Puma King (mask)
My outcome: Really, i hate to see Rey Cometa lose, but anyway he will lose by submission. Stuka would come with Cometa, while Felino would come out with King (yes, i know….). First fall, a quyieck one with a tope outside the ring, beign there, done that, i know. Segunda would feature a comeback by King, who would utse a Cometa mistake to win. Tercera wolud be a very dramatic one, an excellent macth that would end in the typical CMLL old-school way, with a submission finish, a Reinera, a Cavernaria or something like that.

    5) Atlantis, Prince Devitt, Mister Niebla & Dragon Rojo Jr vs. Volador Jr, Mistico, Negro Casas & Ultimo Guerrero
My outcome: Total pandemoniun. Team A looks cool, Niebla would be the loose cannon fo the team. Team B, it supposed to be this “lucha libre dream team”, with all the people support. First fall would be a total chaos with everyone wating to fight everyone, Casa and Niebla would kiss each other (nothing wrong with it, it’s just fantasy booking and it’s a routine they already do) while Guerrero would taunt Mistico (to react the old feud with the old one),it would en in a countout draw. In the second fall, Dragon would begin to rip Guerrero mask with Atlantis help, while Devitt and Niebla would be beating up badly Volador, but then, the “faces” would react with Mistico taking out Dragon (in order to get cred and make You Tube) with his arm bar, while Negro takes out Atlantis with Casita. The third caida would be an amazing display of all the elements the guys have (Niebla with the spit, Mistico and the scossors, etc, etc). Mistico would fly out on Atlantis, while Guerrero and Dragon would do the clothesline routine. That would leave the crowd hot with Devitt and Volador and the Mexico chants, Devitt with interferance by Niebla would pin Volador (this being a cliffhanger for next Niebla-Volador matches), so, Negro on a one on two situation, would first take out Niebla (with a Volador faul) and leave him with Devitt (and the crowd crazy with enough heat for both guys), After a rapid exchange, Casas would use La Casita and pin Devitt, with the crowd nuts and with this, set up Negro vs. Devitt in two weeks.

    6) Terrible vs. Rush (hair)
My Outcome: Terrible comes out with Tiger as his second, and Rush with Mistico (to do the brother angle). Terrible wolud not let Rush come to the ring to a formal introduction and beat him up, winning in about three minutes fall one. Second fall would begin with Terrible doing the beat up stuff and then, Rush comes back in a superhero mode, beating up Terrible badly and winning in eight minutes. Tercera would be longer, around 15 minutes with a lot of finish teasers (a la Punk vs Jericho @ Mania), until Rush in a clean pinfall, wins Terrible hair and end this with a handshake, but let’s tease a rudo or tweener turn with Rush not accepting the shake and instead, being so intense that he slaps Terrible and is taken out by security, so he can have more heat from the fans (considering the enough hate and boos he already has). He can give interviews saying that the hair is not enough for him that now he is a “worldwide superstar”, and that he does not care about he get’s liked or not.

The semifinal would put butts on the seats and i would made Rush the most heated tecnico ever with enough heat to burn La Mexico…bite me, Panico! i am the future of lucha booking….NOT!

  3. Man, i hope rey cometa wins. Puma has enough charisma to make it without a mask. Not sure about rey.
