CMLL (FRI) 08/03/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Kaiser Sports (1-5), Kaiser Sports (title match)]
Attendance: 12000
1) Arkángel de la Muerte, Nosferatu, Skándalo b Molotov, Starman, Tigre Blanco
2) Diamante, Fuego, Triton b Misterioso Jr., Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
Tecnicos took 1/3. Diamante might have been hurt on his dive at the end. Fuego pinned Misterioso.
3) Felino b Stuka Jr. [lightning]
4) Ángel de Oro, Mistico, Valiente b Ephesto, Euforia, Mephisto
Mistico was the captain for his debut, and Fray Tormenta was present. Rudos were DQed beating up Mistico in the first, won the second fall cleanly by beating Valiente & Angel de Oro, and Angel de Oro submitted Mephisto for the win. Mistico did something that was described as a shooting star press into a headscissors. Rudos ripped up his mask after the match.
5) Máscara Dorada, Máximo, Shocker b Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.
Straight falls for the tecnicos, due to more Volador/Niebla problems. Niebla and Zacarias turned on Volador after the match. Negro tried to break them apart, but seems to have sided with Niebla in the end. Volador came off as the tecnico. Volador challenged Niebla to a mask match, and Niebla refused to answer.
6) Atlantis & Diamante Azul b Dragón Rojo Jr. & Último Guerrero [CMLL TAG]
New champions! Atlantis & Diamante Azul took falls 1/3. Dragon Rojo & Ultimo Guerrero had problems in the third fall leading to their loss. RadioCMLL said Rojo & UG were very unhappy with each other after the match, though that’s not played up in any recap.
Handheld video of Mistico’s match is here. It might be interesting to watch this again next week to see what doesn’t air on TV.
People in the building were estimating the building as 75% full. If 12,000 is correct, that would be the highest draw of the year, higher than Dos Leyendas (11,200.) Those extra fans, somewhere between 4,000-6,000 were all there to see the debut of the new Mistico, and were strongly supporting him. It was easily the loudest match of the night. There were people booing and chanting against Mistico, but the majority was for him. Mistico did not have a perfect debut, but he did enough to call it a success. (He gave himself a 7 of 10 in the Kaiser Sports recap.) The novelty of the debut will not be there next week, but they did a good job of maintaining interest in the new character (you’ll have to wait to find out his finish) and running a few other angles in front of the extra large crowd.
This is Atlantis’ fifth new title reign, with his fifth different partner. Diamante Azul joins Ultimo Guerrero, Blue Panther, Angel Azteca, and Rayo de Jalisco as Atlantis’ championship partners. It was a smart night to give Diamante Azul a big win, as he’s a different looking and wrestling new star than Mistico, and maybe some of those fans just in for new Mistico will feel like a lot of stuff is happening here. Ultimo Guerrero & Dragon Rojo were announced as having 22 defenses by the CMLLRadio team, so they come up just a little bit short of the record. If the Guerrero & Rojo issue is followed up on, and next week’s lineup suggests there’s more going on here, it may be that the rudo units are just being rearranged and no one’s actually turning to the tecnico side.
Same thing with Volador & Mr. Niebla. It seemed like Volador might be headed to the tecnico side last night, but that also looks like a rudo vs rudo feud.
Metalica was in the crowd. They’ve got a run of concerts in Mexico City coming up.
CMLL’s announced today’s Galavision show will include Averno vs La Mascara, mask vs mask, from last June. It’ll be the first time it’s aired in Mexico. It’s turned up on YouTube on handhelds, and from Japan’s SamuraiTV broadcast of the show. Fox Sports, the other show affected by last week’s canceled show, aired a rerun from last year.
Tuesday’s Arena Aficion show has Dr. Wagner & Son vs Mascara Ano 2000 & Son in the main event, plus an interesting Super Fly (who still exists), Drago, Cerebro Negro vs Texano, Toscano, and Maldito Jr. trios match. Arena Aficion‘s attendance has been way up of late, even for cards just featuring locals.
Rob shows why sitting front row is a dangerous proposition.

Main event seems to be setting up a trios title match.
Mistico’s win streak will continue! He’s probably usually in the semifinals from here on out.
First time Angel de Oro and Rey Bucanero have faced of in a singles match. Did you know: Bucanero is still champion.

Good to see how everybody tries to make Mistico look good. I hope he will grow into this gimmick and develop some more confidence and authority.
I guess the live reports combined the two spots because one was his trademark incredible second rope springboard headscissors to the floor and the other was his springboard SSP. Both caught by Euforia.
The tag title match ended when Diamante Azul whipped Dragon Rojo into the corner where Guerrero was setting up for the Guerrero Especial so he got jostled and fell off. He yelled at Dragon Rojo and they lost due to distraction. Post-match they argued and left seperately. Wasn’t clear to me if this was leading to something or just a way for them to lose the belts. Guess we’ll find out next week.
If they are setting up a trios titles match in the main event next week I have no idea why Black Warrior wouldn’t be in there instead of Psicosis.
