CMLL (SUN) 07/15/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [El Informador (4)]
4) Barbaro Cavernario DQ Javier Cruz [hair]
Barbaro took 2/3. Javier accidentally kicked the ref, Barbaro fouled Javier, Barbaro checked the ref, Javier fouled Barbaro, ref saw the second ref and called the DQ.

CMLL (TUE) 07/17/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Kaiser Sports]
1) Metatrón & Soberano Jr. b Camorra & Zayco
Soberano replaced Bengala, Camorra replaced Ramstein.
2) Aereo, Astral, Eléctrico b Demus 3:16, Pequeño Nitro, Pierrothito
Aereo’s unmasked debut.
3) Hijo del Signo, Namajague, Shigeo Okumura b Hombre Bala Jr., Super Halcon Jr., Triton
Okumura pinned Triton in the third.
4) Sagrado b Niebla Roja [lightning]
Sagrado won in about 9 minutes.
5) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Rey Cometa DQ Felino, Puma King, Tiger
Tecnicos took 2/3, Puma once again fouling Cometa. Puma also took Cometa’s mask twice. The reunited cats did not have any issues.
6) Euforia, Rey Bucanero, Rey Escórpion b Diamante, La Máscara, Marco Corleone
Rudos took 2/3, Escorpion powerbombing La Mascara for the win. Escorpion wants a title shot, though the Kaiser Sports report quotes him as challenging for the middleweight title; that’s Octagon’s title, Mascara is light heavyweight.

Kurt Angle will wrestle on TripleMania after all. He will be Jeff Jarrett’s partner against LA Park & Electroshock in the Dorian’s hair vs Joaquin’s hair match. The announcement was made last night on Tercera Caida.

AAA has been working on bringing in Kurt Angle for years. Dorian had early appeared on the same show and strongly hinted Angle would be on this year’s show. TV shows came and went, the TripleMania press conference came and went, and Angle was never announced or even hinted at again until now. It’s such an odd time to make the announcement – Tercera Caida is great, but they could’ve done it in when they had all the press there just last week – that it seems to be a last minute deal that finally came together. The lineup also seems to indicate it was a last minute decision; Kurt may be the best paid guy on the show, but they’re bringing him in to work third from the top unless there’s a lot reshuffling. Maybe Angle lowered his price, maybe AAA was more willing to pay his price because of the ‘meh’ reaction to the TripleMania card, I am not sure.

Electroshock & LA Park vs Jeff Jarrett & Kurt Angle is such a weird match. They’ll be accompanied by Karen Jarrett, who used to be Karen Angle, which will make it very awkward. Electroshock facing Kurt Angle is an odd use of Kurt Angle, but if you absolutely have to do the tag match, he’s better choice than Zorro or Cibernetico. (Putting in any one else is not how AAA thinks.) The best partner would be no partner, and just a LA Park vs Kurt Angle match we’re not exactly getting here.

On yesterday’s Figure Four Daily with Dr. Lucha, Steve responded to a question about last year’s WWE tryouts in Mexico by saying WWE now has no interest in bringing in Mexican wrestlers to use on their shows. Sin Cara’s inability to adjust to WWE style (including learning English) has been a disappointment to them, so they’ve given up on using anyone who’s working the lucha libre style. That would means Averno and everyone else aren’t going anywhere.

Metalico will be out two months with a ligament tear in his left leg. He hurt it this past Thursday catching a Bobby Zavala plancha at a small show, managing to finish the match but was taken to the hospital right after and is now in a huge cast. Metalico promised revenge, of course. Tigre Blanco will take his place on Friday’s show.

Dinamico II has passed away. He was a regular in the smaller arenas around Mexico State and Neza, working in the UWA allied building during the early 90s. He was mostly wrestling on (rare) Arena San Juan Pantitlan shows and LEGEND reunion shows; the last match I have him wrestling was in March.

If you’re wondering why Sobre el Ring aired a 60 man royal rumble from 2010, it’s because another one is coming soon. It’s the Torneo Amigo de Siempre, organized by Carlos Hernández Valdés. This time, it’ll be run in Arena Lopez Mateos on August 11th, and they’re aiming for 70 luchadors. The only official entrant is Canek (who won the last one), with the others to be announced soon.

top six stories of the last two weeks

  1. AAA announced it’s TripleMania XX lineup, which comes off as a usual big show lineup with a mask match on top. Dr. Wagner and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. in a mask match where everyone knows who’s going to win (and Santo’s drawn well with that same bit), Mesias returns from injury to defend his title against Perro Aguayo Jr., and there are two more apuesta matches on the undercard. TripleMania feels more like a bridge major show an end of the year event, with some issues set up on TV skipped over here.
  2. LA Park defeated Abyss to keep the Latin America title, but was humilated by Jeff Jarrett and the rest of the rudos. In earlier matches, Vampiro’s return to the ring was prevented when Dorian Roldan ordered the police to arrest him for early run-ins.
  3. Ultimo Guerrero has kicked Rey Escorpion out of his group and put Euforia in his spot. This hasn’t been explained on the shows at all to this point.
  4. El Hijo del Santo’s interview show has been canceled. There’s no next show announced for his TxT promotion.
  5. Mini tecnico luchador Aereo lost his mask to Pequeno Nitro in Arena Mexico.
  6. Loco Max left CMLL, saying only good things about the company but unhappy wiht the amount of work
  • Rush was announced for the G1, will be confused by the lack of boos.
  • Sugi appears to be out of AAA (and every promotion) due to involvement in Nosawa’s false arrest for drug possesion. AAA still lists him on Queretero’s TV lineup because changing posters is hard, I guess?
  • Cibernetico & Parka won IWRG’s Guerra de Empresas
  • Puebla luchador Lestart retired.

Super X, Lestat retires, Terrible keeps his title

1) Kronoz b Lucky Boy and Belial and Tornado and Ares and Ícaro and Atómic Star and Magnético and Cor [battle royal]
2) Pete Powers b Durango Kid
3) Turbo b Skayde Black Terry Jr.
Turbo won clean with a campana. Skayde unmasked after the match…
4) Octagón b Fuerza Guerrera decadas80s90s2000
Octagon beat his rival via foul. Lots of mask ripping and some blood.
5) Eterno b Drago (AAA) decadas80s90s2000
6) Juventud Guerrera b Chessman, Fenix (AAA) [AAA CRUISER]
Juvi sang before the match, then retained his title. Angelico was listed in the match, did not appear.

Setsuko Takahashi and Taya Valkyrie had a bikini contest.

CMLL (MON) 07/16/2012 Arena Puebla [El Arte de la Lucha Libre]
1) Black Tiger, Lestat, Tigre Rojo Jr. b King Jaguar, Policeman, Siki Ozama Jr.
Lestat, 29 years old and 10 years a wrestler, surprisingly announced his immediate retirement following the match. He said it was for personal and business reasons, but a tough one.
2) Cancerbero, Puma King, Raziel b Hombre Bala Jr., Metatrón, Stigma
Rudos took 2/3.
3) Ángel de Oro, Máscara Dorada, Sagrado b Misterioso Jr., Niebla Roja, Vangelis
Tecnicos took 1/3.
4) La Máscara, Rush, Super Porky b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Tecnicos took 2/3, the second by excessive violence on Mascara.
5) Terrible b Shocker [CMLL HEAVY]
Terrible took 2/3 to keep the title.

Lestat, the vampire/90s Hardy Brother look a like, was an entertaining luchador who really deserved a better opportunity from CMLL. He only had a couple chances in CMLL, as part of the 2004 version of Guapos U and the brief appearance in last year’s Gran Alternativa. Our records have him wrestling as early as 2000, which would actually make him a 12 year wrestler (starting in Arena Puebla at 17 and basically being stuck in the same spot since), but maybe those first two years weren’t ‘professional.’ It’d be nice if he reconsidered and came back, but I hope he’s happy with whatever’s next.

Lineups

CMLL (SUN) 07/22/2012 Arena Coliseo
1) Niño de Acero & Pequeño Halcón vs Mercurio & Pequeño Universo 2000
2) Bengala, Leono, Tigre Blanco vs Bobby Zavala, Disturbio, Inquisidor
3) Molotov, Sensei, Starman vs Nosferatu, Raziel, Virus
4) Estrellita vs Princesa Sugheit [lightning]
5) Diamante, Hijo del Fantasma, Triton vs Ephesto, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
6) Marco Corleone, Rush, Shocker vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Tiger

Presumably, they’re setting up a significant show two Sundays away, but nothing seems obvious. Can’t be another Love Buffet/TRT match since Rush will be gone as soon as Maximo returns. I would be interested in seeing Marco get a shot at Terrible but I’m not sure that’s the main event you run against TripleMania. (Or maybe they can just take the week off.)

The Terra matches seem like 3 straight openers, especially on the rudo side.

CMLL (MON) 07/23/2012 Arena Puebla
1) Akron & Saurón vs Espiritu Maligno & Fuerza Chicana
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Lluvia, Luna Mágica vs Lady Afrodita, Mima Shimoda, Tiffany
3) Pegasso, Rey Cometa, Starman vs Namajague, Nosferatu, Shigeo Okumura
4) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Sagrado vs Black Warrior, Misterioso Jr., Tiger
5) Atlantis, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Euforia, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.

A reset week with nothing carrying over. Odd rudo/rudo battle in the opener. Afrodita has been contained in Arena Puebla since that cibernetico.
