Kurt Angle will wrestle on TripleMania after all. He will be Jeff Jarrett’s partner against LA Park & Electroshock in the Dorian’s hair vs Joaquin’s hair match. The announcement was made last night on Tercera Caida.
AAA has been working on bringing in Kurt Angle for years. Dorian had early appeared on the same show and strongly hinted Angle would be on this year’s show. TV shows came and went, the TripleMania press conference came and went, and Angle was never announced or even hinted at again until now. It’s such an odd time to make the announcement – Tercera Caida is great, but they could’ve done it in when they had all the press there just last week – that it seems to be a last minute deal that finally came together. The lineup also seems to indicate it was a last minute decision; Kurt may be the best paid guy on the show, but they’re bringing him in to work third from the top unless there’s a lot reshuffling. Maybe Angle lowered his price, maybe AAA was more willing to pay his price because of the ‘meh’ reaction to the TripleMania card, I am not sure.
Electroshock & LA Park vs Jeff Jarrett & Kurt Angle is such a weird match. They’ll be accompanied by Karen Jarrett, who used to be Karen Angle, which will make it very awkward. Electroshock facing Kurt Angle is an odd use of Kurt Angle, but if you absolutely have to do the tag match, he’s better choice than Zorro or Cibernetico. (Putting in any one else is not how AAA thinks.) The best partner would be no partner, and just a LA Park vs Kurt Angle match we’re not exactly getting here.
On yesterday’s Figure Four Daily with Dr. Lucha, Steve responded to a question about last year’s WWE tryouts in Mexico by saying WWE now has no interest in bringing in Mexican wrestlers to use on their shows. Sin Cara’s inability to adjust to WWE style (including learning English) has been a disappointment to them, so they’ve given up on using anyone who’s working the lucha libre style. That would means Averno and everyone else aren’t going anywhere.
Metalico will be out two months with a ligament tear in his left leg. He hurt it this past Thursday catching a Bobby Zavala plancha at a small show, managing to finish the match but was taken to the hospital right after and is now in a huge cast. Metalico promised revenge, of course. Tigre Blanco will take his place on Friday’s show.
Dinamico II has passed away. He was a regular in the smaller arenas around Mexico State and Neza, working in the UWA allied building during the early 90s. He was mostly wrestling on (rare) Arena San Juan Pantitlan shows and LEGEND reunion shows; the last match I have him wrestling was in March.
If you’re wondering why Sobre el Ring aired a 60 man royal rumble from 2010, it’s because another one is coming soon. It’s the Torneo Amigo de Siempre, organized by Carlos Hernández Valdés. This time, it’ll be run in Arena Lopez Mateos on August 11th, and they’re aiming for 70 luchadors. The only official entrant is Canek (who won the last one), with the others to be announced soon.
