4) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b Ángel Azteca Jr., Blue Panther, Super Porky
Angel Azteca, filling in for Black Warrior, shocked Averno by beating him in the first. Rudos rallied back to win 2/3.

Dragon Rojo win the first with a powerbomb, Angel de Oro took the second with a mecedora, Dragon Rojo escaped it in the third and submitted him to take the third fall and keep the title.

Morphosis & Kraneo

Tercera Caida had an interview with Morphosis last night, who confirmed he’s Histeria and Kraneo is Alebrije. Kraneo is an old Alebrije gimmick, and Morphosis says he used this name early in his career. (Odd; there’s no record of it and it wasn’t one of the gimmicks he mentioned in a Dos de Tres interview that was all about naming his old gimmicks.) Histeria continued to claim he had legal papers proving he had the rights to the name, but CMLL wanted them change names. This might have been in the works for a while – Alebrije hasn’t been around Arena Mexico since the first week of November, and Histeria hasn’t been around for months.

The pattern seems to be reverting to old gimmicks. Psicosis can’t quite go back to Leon Negro, since he lost his mask with that name. (Hasn’t stopped Silver King, though.) Puma Jr. or Ultra Taro might be other options.

Speaking of Tercera Caida…

TVC Deportes shows in the US?

TVC Networks started yet another Hispanic language channel in the US, called “TVC+ Latino.” It rolled out quietly last late month, and it seems to be running owned programming from the various TVC networks. That could include IWRG, Perros del Mal, CMLL Puebla and Tercera Caida from TVC Deportes…and in fact, an emailer from Southern California let me know last night that they’ve seen both the Perros del Mal show and IWRG telecast.

TVC+ Latino has a twitter account, a facebook account and a website, but no list of affiliates I can find. Like LATV, TVC+ Latino is broadcasted on a digital sub-channel – anyone can get it with an HD antenna (if they know it’s out there), and local cable systems may pick it up. The stations I have found airing the channel are

Las Vegas: 47.7 (sub channel of KGNG)
Los Angeles: 8.8 (sub channel of KFLA)
San Diego: 50.1 (sub channel of KSDY) – or maybe not TVC+ Latino?

The affiliates also call the channel VMAS, which is a useful thing to google if you want info on music awards and not much on networks. The programming listings do not even appear to be updated for the channel change. This website lists more VMAS affiliates in Dallas (44.1 off KLEG), and Sacremento (49.1 off KSAO). I did find a press release mentioning other VMAS affiliates also in Houston, San Antonio and San Juan, Puerto Rico, but I am not sure of the channel numbers they’d be or if any of these are now all showing TVC+ Latino. TVC+ Latino’s cable guide site also adds San Bernadino and Philadelphia.

This is only meaningful in a few people in the US will be able to catch these shows now; it’s too tiny to mean anything for the promotions (and they may not be aware they’re on in the US.) It’s still a little funny IWRG has US TV and AAA does not.

Other News

El Luchador has been picked up for season 2. It’s mentioned in the last paragraph of this article. It’s listed for 13 episodes, which is 5 more than this past season. Taping starts “early this year.”

Fuego en el Ring has interview with Lady Apache and Guerrero Maya. Apache explains she only lost the REINA title match because she was prepared for a technical bout and it turned into an extreme match. Apache says the REINA women aren’t eager to come to Mexico because of the violence situation, and she hopes they can fix that as a country. She may be back in Japan for REINA’s first anniversary show in May. Apache would like to defend her PWR Women’s title versus Zeuxis, because she’s been asking for a shot and has matured a lot over her Japan trip.

Maya is happy with his huge rise in 2011, even despite suffering injuries, but is not satisfied. He wishes he coudl’ve been in the Rayo Tapatios mask match – he got put in that feud when Dragon Lee was hurt, then pulled out when he was hurt himself. With them out of the picture, Guerrero Maya would like to have mask match with either Nitro or Hooligan, just because they’re the guys he faced off when he started in the company.

IWL’s Valerie Richter announced she’s no longer with IWL due to creative differences, but will be starting her own group.

Llaves y Canadados first daily workout went well. Their family tag team tournament sounds like league style, which always gets me worried after that AAA tag team tournament. Hijo del Ninja talks about vacating his title; he believe he’s out three to four months to rest, when he’ll also just happen to be on another Multimedios TV show.

Amo de Lucha Libre has video from the pseduo-Todo x Todo show: Guerrero Mixteco, Turbo, Mr. Leo vs Comando Negro, Black Thunder, Super Colt, Negro Navarro & Los Traumas vs Black Terry, Skayde, Hijo del Pirata Morgan and Hijo del Santo vs Angel Blanco Jr.

HVS has cell phone footage of Rayo Tapatios vs Hombre Bala & Super Halcon Jr.

Black Terry Jr. has newly posted video of Black Terry vs Negro Navarro from 2006.

Rob has highlights of 12/20/11 Arena Mexico. Also: his predictions for 2012. I disagree on 7. (I’d bet Santo and Demon don’t get around to teasing their mask match because Santo and Solitario are still teasing theirs.)

Of relevant note on the show, Devitt & Taguchi won the IWGP Junior Tag Titles back. Perhaps a CMLL team will get to challenge for them next?

Ozz & Cuervo talk about their second title defense.

4) Estrellita & Marcela vs Princesa Sugheit & Tiffany
5) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Histeria, Psicosis, Volador Jr.
6) Máximo vs Mr. Niebla

Main event should be a catch-as-can classic.

Histeria here as Histeria = usual level of CMLL internal communication. I’d bet Psicosis is stuck in Guadalajara for a month while they’re sorting on his new gimmick, like Titan & Triton previously (and Alebrije, in a fashion.) Should be a fun match.

Some shows, they only send six people. Some shows, they send Disturbio and Inquisidor. I dunno.

2) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II b Black Terry, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Skayde Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Excellent match.
3) Neza Kid & Súper Nova b Dr. Cerebro & Vampiro Metálico [hair]
billed as two masks vs two hairs, and the two hairs lost. Bloody match. Vampiro Metalico ended up in a neck brace.
4) El Hijo del Solitario, Gran Markus Jr., Villano IV b Blue Demon Jr., El Hijo de Aníbal, Pirata Morgan
Gran Markus Jr. replaced Texano. Teams were slightly changed as well. V4 and Demon are teasing a mask match.
5) Angel Blanco Jr. b El Hijo Del Santo [WWA WELTER]
Solitario was Blanco’s second again, this time directly helping Angel Blanco keep the title.

PdM (SUN) 01/01/2012 Arena Lopez Mateos [The Gladiatores]

2) Cósmico & Golden Magic b Mini Talisman & Tritón (IWRG)
3) Celestial & Mr. Aguilita b Dinastía & Freelance
feuding minis randomly teamed together for the win.
4) Súper Nova b Pesadilla, Peligro [PdM LH]
Pesdailla and Peligro worked together, then stopped working together, then Super Nova beat them to keep the title.
5) X-Fly b Violento Jack, Aeroboy [PdM EXTREME]
X-Fly kept his title over these two again. Aeroboy took the pin. Violento Jack asked for a one on one title shot next time. X-Fly talked off the best of the Perros vs the best of DTU, but Violento Jack said he doesn’t really care about that and just wants the title shot.
6) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween, Head Hunter I b Texano, Toscano, Zumbi
surprise Perro Head Hunter splashed Zumbi from the top rope for the win.

If ever there was a sign there were too many shows on New Year’s Day, it’s Estrellas del Ring and The Gladiatores posting each other’s reacps, because there was no way they could each cover them all.

No recap from Puebla, but La Mascara kept his NWA Middleweight Championship over Volador Jr. via campana.

IWRG Schedule

IWRG has a poster listing it’s major show for every month this year. Not recommended you expect this to 100% happen, but the plans are

January: El Protector – featuring new stars
February: Guerra de Sexos – cage match featuring men/women
March: Rebelion de Los Juniors – Juniors tournament/title match (currently held by Trauma I)
April: Guerra del Golfo – three cage match loser advance tournament
May: Rey del Ring
June: Legado Final – father/son tournament
July: Festival de la Mascaras – old wrestlers get to wear their masks for one night
August: La Gran Cruzada – #1 contender to Rey del Ring (not sure how this is different than the tournament)
September: Ruleta de la Muerte
October: Guerra Revolucionaria – lumberjack strap match
November: Castillo del Terror – 10 man mask match
December: 50th Anniversary of Lucha Libre in Mexico State, 35th Anniverasry of Arena Naucalpan

Other News

Today’s Arena Mexico show has Angel de Oro vs Dragon Rojo for Dragon Rojo’s CMLL Middleweight championship. Ultimo Guerrero is still back in la Laguna, so Dragon will have to come up with another way to win a title match.

They won again! This time, it took a chair shot to set up the Ozz Driver, but a win’s a win. Kenzo Suzuki turned up to ask for the next shot with Kaz Hayashi.

Valiente, Atlantis, and Mascara Dorada all made it to the NJPW press conference. Appears all three made statements to the press without tearing an ankle or breaking a neck. No word on Valiente’s gear. The Toyko Dome show is tomorrow (but late tonight if you’re in this hemisphere), and the FantasticMania lineups should be out in the next few days.

Lluvia drops that she’s the next CMLL luchadora to head to Japan in this interview with El Universal. If I’m understanding the interview correctly, she’s heading out tomorrow and will be gone for three months. She mentions she’d like to challenge Ayumi for the CMLL single’s title while she’s there and come home double champion.

APC, the France-based promotion Sangre Azteca has visited a few times and is currently champion of, announced he’ll be back from July 2nd to July 11th. He’s hosting a training session thru those dates, which must be registered for by February 1st. Information is up on their facebook page.

5) Blue Panther, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Averno, Mephisto, Volador Jr.

This is the big news of the day, squirreled away in a lineup. Kraneo & Morphosis are new names here, though not totally new. On Facebook – I think La Catedral’s Facebook account, where all the good stuff is found – the rumor is Kraneo is Alebrije (an identity he used prior to joining AAA) and Morphosis is Psicosis. There is an interview introducing Morphosis in Box Y Lucha 3057, though I have not seen it. “Alebrije” has no known future matches, but Psicosis is booked tonight in Guadalajara and that might be the conformation (if anyone writes abou ti.t)

It had always been expected CMLL would have the Invasors (most specifically Psicosis) lose their masks if they were to lose the rights to the identities. If these are changes, perhaps plans have changed or events moved more suddenly than anyone was expecting. No sign of Cuije, which is concerning, but there’s no way he’s going anywhere. We’d expect for Histeria to also be given a new name (and like the rest surely are, a name he’d own even if he parts with CMLL), but he only had 4 CMLL DF matches all last year, in May and June. He’s occasionally popped up in GDL (last Tuesday) & Puebla as an injury fill in, but it may not be worth the effort if he’s not actually going to be around.

It got lost in Valiente’s injury, but they seemed to be setting up a Volador/Mascara match here.

Update: I forgot – I’ve seen that Box y Lucha! The picture over there actually looks more like Ephesto than Psicosis. Psicosis also has chain tattoos around his upper arms, which aren’t visible there. The accompanying interview definitely says this is an existing luchador being morphed into a new identity, but I’m not so sure it’s Psicosis now. It’s not him in the picture. (Perhaps it’s Histeria? He does not have arm tattoos…)

6) Oriental L IntocableHijo del LizmarkScorpio Jr. [cage]
No Niurka. No cage either – just first person pinned lost. Scorpio replaced Juvi. Tirantes was referee. Oriental had Scorpio pinned, Tirantes refused the count, Oriental argued with Tirantes, Tirantes fouled him, and everyone piled on top for the loss. Not sure who gets credit for the win.

Juvi’s excuse for missing this match is he’s been hired by AAA. I still do not believe this at all. Not exactly sure who would be hiring him. Konnan (who wouldn’t want to) is surely back in southern California. Dorian Roldan has been tweeting photos from a vacation in South American all weekend. Also, it’d be a peculiar time for AAA to hire someone when they’re not actually running any tapings. And their can’t be any hold ups about AAA guys working on this particular show, becuase there’s Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. in the semimain.

I can’t believe the internet trolled me into writing that paragraph. AGAIN.

Meanwhile, a news report says Niurka’s no-show was due to the always popular “fuerza mayor” (which translates to “we’re not telling you”) and fans were furious. Neither of the recaps were that concerned with it, but if the Monterrey show was any indication, there probably were a lot of casual fans who would be annoyed.

TV Notes

CMLL’s main television show is listed as returning to Galavision in the US this upcoming weekend. Same evening/repeat late night bit as it was before it disappeared the last two weeks. It’ll probably still be the show airing the same day in Mexico.

Ras de Lona is off 52MX (US version.) It’s been off the Mexico version of the channel for some time, only airing in the US as replacement programming for shows they don’t have the rights to in the US. They changed around the schedule to start the year. There’s a lot more airings of Guerreros del Ring (presumably to cover the same gaps), but they’ve apparently decided not to use one of those slots for the other CMLL show. Ras de Lona is still listed as airing on VivaSports, a Dish Network only channel operating by the same parent company (but one that apparently doesn’t post it’s shows online.) This is the same channel TNA is on.

CMLL really needs to post Ras de Lona on their website, if not include it in the shows people actually can watch. I’ve said this a million times already, and yet they’re going to keep building up matches on a show very few of their fans can or will see. It’s completely frustrating.

Rayos celebrated the two fall win, but referee Maya figured it out and DQed the Rayos for illegally entering after being beat. Rayos threatened to walk out but returned for the usual long third fall. Halcon pinned Rayo I in the third (Rayo II nearly breaking it in time), Rayo II submitted Halcon. Lots of Rayo II/Bala near falls, Rayo shocked after a kickout, then shockingly rolled up for the losing pin. Rayo Tapatios are Jesús González Monroy, 43 years old, 28 years a wrestler, and Víctor Manuel González, 40 years old, 23 years a wrestler, both from Neza. Crowd was totally behind the rudo veteran Rayos, as expected.
4) Delta, Hijo del Fantasma, Metro DQ Hijo del Signo, Negro Casas, Rey Escorpion
Tecnicos took 1/3. Looks like a Fantasma/Negro feud (re)starting – Negro pinned Fantasma in the second, evaded the Phantom Lariat in the third, and pulled off his mask for the DQ.
5) Averno, Mephisto, Mr. Niebla b Ángel de Oro, La Máscara, Máximo
Rudos took 1/3. Mephisto escaped the campana, beat Mascara with the Rosa DDT, and pulled off his mask after the match.
6) Terrible b Rush [CMLL HEAVY]
Rush took the first, Terrible second in usual quick falls. Rush tried for his piledriver in the third, but Terrible escaped and pinned him with an over the shoulder powerbomb to win the vacant title.

CMLL has entered the Terrible Era.

As far as myself and Dr. Lucha could figure, this was the first CMLL promoted (Mexico/Coliseo) double mask vs double mask match since Lizmark & Atlantis beat the Animals (Eddie Watts & Chuck Walton) in November of 1990. Check out their wristbands in the picture – one set back, one red. That’s how Maya figured out the switch.

Detailed recaps tomorrow, but other New Years Day action included X-Fly and Angel Blanco keeping their titles, and Super Nova not only keeping his title on the Perros del Mal show, but teaming with Neza Kid to take Dr. Cerebro & Vampiro Metalico’s hair. Apolo Estrada also lost his hair, to Multifacetico on IWRG’s show. Head Hunter I, who’s been on Perros shows a few times in the past, was their surprise main eventer tonight.
