Other News

Yesterday was Blue Panther’s meeting with the Mexico Lucha Commission about giving Negro a martinete on Friday. Blue Panther defended himself by explaining he just got really mad and caught up in the moment, but did not plan to piledriver Negro. They must’ve had more reporters in the office than actual commissioners, because Fantasma ended the meeting by announcing another meeting with the rest of the commissioners to decide Panther’s punishment. That meeting is Wednesday (today!), but Panther is suspended until then. Felino is quoted as agreeing with the punishment, saying Panther should know better since he was injured by Love Machine doing the same move.

Today, the commission announced it’s decision: Blue Panther is suspended for two weeks, but the suspension will not be enforced until after Sin Piedad. Panther had already signed for the match, and the commission didn’t want to defraud the public. Panther will wrestle Felino on Friday, and then be off during the holidays, until New Year’s Day. A harsh punishment! If Panther loses his hair on Sin Piedad, it’ll be well on it’s way back by the time anyone sees him again (assuming this suspension is honored outside of Mexico City.)

Tuesday was a busy day for press conferences. Todos x el Todos held public weigh ins for their title matches this Saturday. Only one person seems to have actually reported the weights, which I guess tell you how seriously anyone took it. (Also, some people still think Demon is defending the NWA title.)

WWA Welterweight: Hijo del Santo (c) (73 kg) vs Angel Blanco Jr. (78 kg)
WWA Heavyweight: Rayo de Jalisco (c) (123 kg) vs Hijo del Cien Caras (113)
FLMM Masters: Solar (c) (89 kg) vs Dandy (98 kg)
PWR Heavyweight: Blue Demon Jr. (c) (90 kg) vs Villano IV (85 kg)
NWA Mini: Mascarita Plateada (c) (48 kg) vs Lobito – no weight given, apparently not at the press conference, does not appear to exist outside his participation in this match.

The weigh ins are part of the push to be Serious Wrestling. They had Fantasma there as commission representative to show how serious they were taking it. The weight only really mattered for the Welterweight title; the limit there was 78, and both made it. There’s sort of a heavyweight minimum of 97 kg for heavyweight, but minimums have never been enforced. Shouldn’t they have measured Mascarita Plateada with measuring tape, since the limit there is height? Funnier picture at least.

Todo x el Todo also announced a lottery to decide title match order, which will take place befor the minis match (which won’t be in the lottery.) It doesn’t help the Santo show to be running their next show a day after AAA & CMLL run their big ones, but there doesn’t seem to be as much interest in this one as the first, and there wasn’t a lot interest in that show.

There was also a press conference for a Festival Luchistica, taking place this weekend at Expo Reforma.

Rob has highlights of early January 1994 AAA.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 12/20/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Enrique Vera Jr. & Soberano Jr. vs Apocalipsis & Bobby Zavala
2) Eléctrico, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Rey Cometa, Titán, Triton vs Hooligan, Loco Max, Skándalo
4) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Metro vs Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Escorpion
5) Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Rush vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Águila, Volador Jr.

The last time we saw Delta, Guerrero Maya and Metro together, Metro walked off on his teammates, because he was feuding with them and allied with Titan & Triton. That aspect of the feud has not been touched on since, and maybe this is an indication it’s been dropped. Or forgot? Same difference.

There are good matches here. If only the can get people to care about them.

CMLL (TUE) 12/20/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Meteoro vs Relampago
2) Hombre Bala Jr. & Super Halcon Jr. vs Ángel del Mal & Infierno
3) Bam Bam vs Demus 3:16
4) Dalis la Caribeña, Luna Mágica, Marcela vs Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Tiffany
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Valiente vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Último Guerrero

A show! I guess Tiger has better things to do.

  1. “3) Rey Cometa, Titán, Triton vs Hooligan, Loco Max, Skándalo
    4) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Metro vs Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Escorpion”

No excuse. You just have to look at this on paper (I assume the CMLL matchmakers write the matches down?) and automatically see the problem which is easily fixable. Metro takes Rey Cometa’s spot and Rey Cometa takes Metro’s spot. FIXED! Works out perfectly since Cometa/Escorpion are gold against each other but if you really wanna be a jerkoff and say Cometa shouldn’t be working that high you can just switch the rudo teams up. Either way works fine.

Really just mind-boggling. Usually I’d just accuse CMLL management of being lazy but in this case it just stands out how stupid they all are. Not a single bright bulb in the bunch.

I hope Panther changes his mind about going home for the winter just so we can see how quick CMLL can backtrack on the suspension. Although it wasn’t made clear whether 2 weeks means 2 weeks from last Friday, 2 weeks from today or 2 weeks from this coming Friday.

  2. BTW the Observer said two weeks ago that Blue Panther was added to the CMLL programming team so clearly this suspension angle is him booking his own storyline straight outta what would have worked in the early 90’s. Kinda scary to think these are the type of ideas he will be contributing going forward…

Just wait till next month when Volador breaks a guitar over Sombra’s head! IT WORKED IN 1990!

  3. @Tim: No no – CMLL is SERIOUS now! No more clowning around! Mr. Niebla, Monito, Zacarias, wrestlers doing stripteases, Marco Corleone gyrating, Super Porky’s crying spots, Cuije, Maximo…. excluded. CMLL is not a circus after all!

  4. any links to photos of the 10,000 in Morelia, 6,500 in Acapulco and 4,000 PdM in Cuernavaca would be appreciated. Thanks.

  5. @Rob:

Volador Jr. dressed like a star wars figure, Sombra as a walking billboard and Tiffany wrestling is Serious business.

Cubs have you mentioned Fishman Sr. wrestling in Japan on Christmas Day?

  6. @Rob: No, no, no, I think we’ve been getting it all wrong. You see, if the CMLL bookers actually spent time thinking about the cards at all, there’s a chance they might not go with the first thing (no matter what it is) they come up with. And that’s not being “seria y estable”. Especially not “estable”.

I mean, look at WWE. They actually try to make plans, and what happens? They change them every 2 hours! CMLL can’t be like that! So better to book with unbridled, SERIOUS conviction!

  7. And by the way, WON did not even know where the Perros ran that show. They say it was in Cuernavaca, but the Plan Sexenal is in the capital at the junction of calle (!) Cuernavaca and Mar Mediterrano.

  8. @ringo:

    interesting.

So while we’re talking attendance, I’ll predict 4,500 paid for AAA and about 6,500 paid for CMLL tonight.
