3. My theory is Dorada/Mephisto, being avid fans of luchablog.com, saw your MOTYC post and felt slighted so that match was their response. Yay!

17. Thanks for uploading all of this. Máscara Dorada vs. Mephisto blew my mind in a way that hasn’t happened since I first figured out who Máscara Dorada was, sometime in January of this year. :)

18. I didn’t really like Memphisto v. Dorada. Felt like two guys running through every spot they know with no real story or selling. Dorada taking a top rope Angels wings and immediately going back on offense 10 seconds later was some bush league EVOLVE undercard shit.

19. @Phil: I thought the match was great other than the top rope Devil’s Wings no sell. There was no reason for them both not to sell a bit more after that, though I did like the struggle to get Dorada into position for the move on the top rope.

    Plus, the match answered the age old question of who would win a battle between a gladiator and a mariachi.

I know the match wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea and the Devil Wings spot at the end was poorly thought out/executed but once again it brings up the double standard between flyers doing that sort of thing but nobody saying anything when Solar/Navarro put on supposed great matches where they put each other in holds and just let go without any struggle. Not saying one is better than the other (you all know what style I prefer) but if you’re gonna call out flyers for that type of thing the criticism should go both ways since both parties are equally guilty.

21. I usually don’t like matches like Dorada/Mephisto, but watching Dorada burn through every ridiculous dive and hurricanrana variation he knew was actually impressive to me. I could probably enjoy spotty matches more if it came off as spectacularly crazy like this rather than the rote, kung-fu choreography garbage that gets pimped by indy and puro fans.

    @Rob: I understand your analogy, but I think you are slightly off. What you are talking about really is suspension of disbelief. While some guys can suspend their disbelief that Navarro/Solar are heatedly exchanging and countering holds, I think the “high flying” equivalent is the stand-and-wait-for-the-dive-and-catch-them. Dorada no-selling the Devil’s Wings is more bad psychology than the “high flying style”. After a massive bump and near fall, you have to continue to sell the move. Mephisto isn’t off the hook either – he should have kept the heat on Dorada and either set him up for a reversal of some sort, or just killed more time rudo-ing it up to plausibly let Dorada recover.
