Both sides brawled after the match due the finish. Violento Jack took the trophy for himself, saying this was a proof he was a better leader than Crazy Boy, while the IWRG side challenged the DTU to come back and win on their own merits.

Antonio Pena passed away five years ago today.

WWE.com has a story about Sin Cara vs Sin Cara and the Mistico name fight. A bit surreal, and I’m pretty sure Incognito/Mistico did not work for CMLL at any point. The story he’s always told is he stayed at Panico’s place while in DF (though never why he stayed there), and he pitched the name and look to Panico but did not get the job. (CMLL) Mistico’s never really talked about what he knew of the whole thing; at least in the context of this article to build a storyline, he claims he had no idea the Mistico de Juarez existed. (That’s very plausible.) Also, I bet Mistico knows how to spell “Dr. Karonte”, they probably could’ve asked for the correct spelling (or gone to one of a million sites to check that out.) It’s weird to see AAA & CMLL mentioned by name on a WWE site.

Tercera Caida was prohibited from filming the Anniversario show. If they don’t do it this week, it’s just being weird because it’s the anniversary show (not that it makes the slightest bit of difference). If they keep doing it, it’s just more of the CMLL bunker mentality we’ve already seen.

La Catedral says if we have to give credit to the CMLL programming crew for the last boom if we’re blaming them for the current anti-boom. Which is fair, but that doesn’t mean they still should be replaced; successful people in highly demanding creative positions usually burn out over time, due to just running out of ideas or losing it during the crazy stress involved in such a job. The bigger problem, as alluded to in that article, is the lack of coordination. Over in his column, Apollo Valdes notes that part of the problem with the Anniversary show was running another big show in Guadalajara that night. If CMLL had to run a big show for Guadalajara on a Friday last month, there was no sensible reason to run it the same night as the big show in Arena Mexico. It hurt the lineups for both shows and seemed to indicate no one in control thought that out before scheduling the shows.

Shocker says yesterday that he lost to in Guatemala because he was hit in the back with a chair. FMLL’s results from that show says Voltron beat Shocker with a small package. I guess both COULD be true. Highly unlikely though.

Fuego says the Tuareg have been like a pebble in his shoe for a while and the Coliseo Tag Team belts are a dream for them, but they should stop dreaming.

Daga is preparing hard to face the best wrestler in the United States. Create your own punch line for this spot.

Rob has highlights of 12/02/94 AAA.

Lucha Libre In Japan

10/02 REINA
3) Yumiko Hotta b Zeuxis
4) La Comandante & Antonio Honda b Cyounshiryuu (?) & Cherry
(Mixed Tag)

If I’m understanding right, Lady Afrodita is starting in a league tournament called the “Blue Star Cup” sponsored by JWP, which runs thru 12/23.

Mexico vs Japan semimain. Luna’s back just when I thought she was gone.

That is a tecnico team I could imagine winning trios titles. It’s a bold statement saying Atlantis & Mascara Dorada > Toscano & Maximo, but it’s a statement I stand behind.

top six stories of the last two weeks

  1. CMLL held it’s Anniversario show. A hall full Arena Mexico saw Rey Bucanero lose his hair to Felino, who’d had been feuding the most out of the ten involved.
  2. AAA filmed a pilot episode of a Return of Abismo Negro reality competition show, where the winning luchador will be Abismo Negro. AAA had previously said they’d never have another Abismo Negro. Fan reaction was poor.
  3. Atlantis beat Ultimo Guerrero in a singles match, which appears to end their feud for now. Atlantis is now feuding with Mr. Niebla instead.
  4. Volador & Jushin Lyger will meet in the Leyenda de Plata final.
  5. AAA’s Heroes Inmortales will have no AAA mega title match, but does have every important person without a match in the Copa Antonio Pena.
  6. CMLL is heavily teased a debut of a new wrestler, suspected to be Magnus with a new look.
