CMLL (FRI) 08/12/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, La CatedralRecord]
1) Höruz & Trueno b Artillero & Súper Comando
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Dragon Lee, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Arkángel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Loco Max
1/3 for tecnicos, Cometa getting Arkangel with a top rope ‘rana for the win.
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Sangre Azteca, Stuka Jr. b Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
Tecnicos took 2/3. Fantasma got Misterioso with the Ghost Lariat for the win.
4) Valiente DQ Rey Escorpion [lightning]
With time running out and both guys battling in the corner, Escorpion fouled Valiente and gave him a super powerbomb. Referee did not call the DQ until after the powerbomb. Valiente won, but was strechered out.
5) Averno, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr.
1/3 for rudos. Atlantis had Negro up in the Atlantida, but took out the referee with Negro’s legs. Niebla fouled Atlantis and got the pin.
6) Héctor Garza b Último Guerrero [CMLL HEAVY]
Title change! Seconds were Rey Escorpion and (interestingly) Hijo del Fantasma. Hector surprised UG to take the first fall, then got rolled up while taking off his shirt in the second fall. Hector took the third with a tornillo moonsault to win the title. Garza is the 16th champion.

Other News

Even though there’s no AAA TV taping this week, the Quien Pinta Para La Corona talent search is in Acapulco this weekend.

Ras de Lona had interviews with Hector Garza, Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis and Shocker, kind of teasing four ways issues. Hmmmm.

Tiffany was interviewed, bad arm in a sling. She’s had her let shoulder braced in almost every match since coming into CMLL, but it finally went out catching dives in her last match. She’s had surgery, and will be out 2 to 3 months.

Volador’s bald head is just weird.

A politician speculated to be running for higher office held a press conference with the Mexico City Lucha Commission about providing better social protection (health insurance) for luchadors. This would be great if it was going anywhere.

El Encomista has a really good piece about the business of IWL. They make it sound as if they were losing a ton of money under old management and have stabilized things with Valerie in charge. She says they’ve reached 80 buys on iPPV.

LuchaWorld has the Ras de Lona from two weeks ago.

CMLL in Japan

5) Strong Man [2] b Minoru Suzuki [12] (9:31, blockbuster) – STRONG MAN WINS!

Semimain didn’t take long. Blue Panther vs Felino might be the start of the VIP lightning matches they were talking about (for September.)

The second Friday Guadalajara show is also this night, with Hijos de Averno vs Generacion Dorada.

  1. HECTOR IS THE NEW CHAMP!!!YEAH BABY YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD AGAIN!

  2. Glad to have Garza as champ and man oh man does that 8/19 card look fantastic, love the lightning match and lots of feuds continueing. Also my team of Zavala and Disturbio together, really like those two as a combo.

On a final note Dinamic Black working with Semental,Mortiz, and Dr. is awesome

  3. Daniel is not a fan of the bears. Good to know.

Of course the GDL feed is having issues when Palacio Negro and Metal Blanco are facing Puma King and Tiger. Not the week before with the ladies or the week before when Super Halcon Jr. and Dragon Lee were teaming.

  4. @Tim: Works for me too but keeps freezing for 2/3 seconds and then jumps forward in the action. Very annyoing and unwatchable.

  5. BTW Cubs you gotta fix the results here. The CMLL twitter was way off on teams… it wasn’t Euforia, Arkangel and Bronco, it’s Nosferatu, Nitro and Bronco.

  6. @Wirehead: They have more than six! The top title is the title they’re pushing at the moment, there really is no distinct champion of the promotion championship like other promotions; that whole concept was generally foreign to Mexico until AAA set up it’s mega title (and it’s not done so well with it at all times.)

  7. @Tim: main event from last Sunday ( Big Neurosis, Golden Boy, Simbolo vs Angel Dorado Jr., Hijo del Ninja, Máscara Púrpura)

  8. TF has Amapola as an announcer for

    06/21: Astral vs Pequeño Warrior
07/12: Shigeo Okumura b Gallo [OCCIDENTE LH]
??/??: Felino, Rey Bucanero, Atlantis vs Generacion Dorada?

  9. Did anyone else notice all those DR X masks on ringsiders on LATV? Funny how CMLL on Televisa never shows a Mistico or Sin Cara mask but kids with Sexy Star masks always get on tv.

  10. The 8/12 show looks pretty good from reading the results, looking forward to seeing that main event.

My guess is that the next IWL ppv will be when they book Pondo again.
