Volador vs Averno, Ultimo Guerrero, Dr. X, Dos Caras Anniversary show

CMLL (SUN) 08/07/2011 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, La Catedral]
1) Bobby Zavala & Camorra b Freesbe & Robin
Rudos take last two, due to tecnico problems.
2)  Bronco, Puma King, Tiger b Ángel Azteca Jr., Molotov, Sensei
Rudos take last two.
3) Arkángel de la Muerte, Cancerbero, Loco Max b Dragon Lee, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
Rudos take last two, Arkanegl & Cancerbero beating Dragon Lee & Pegasso.
4) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Metro b Misterioso Jr., Pólvora, Yoshihashi
1/3 for tecnicos.
5) La Máscara, Máximo, Shocker b Averno, Héctor Garza, Volador Jr.
Tecnicos took 1/3. Garza was “accidentally” kicking his partners in the head in the third fall. They were angry with him all match, but turned on him then and there, only to be rolled by the tecnicos for the loss. Volador wants a singles mach with Garza.

Other News

Ultimo Guerrero helpfully suggests the anniversary main event should be either him vs Hector Garza or him vs Atlantis. Ultimo considers Hector Garza “a rotten apple, he spoils everything”, gives him permission to join the tecnicos, notes he’s beat Garza time after time, and figures he’ll do so again next week. Atlantis is an an adult so he can do what he wants, but it’d be his fault for breaking up the Guerreros. Ultimo Guerrero says he’s used to people betraying him – he’s been betrayed by Rey Bucanero, Toscano, Mascara Magica, even Satanico. I remember those going down a little differently than Ultimo does, like most of those starting with Guerrero’s boot going into the “traitor”‘s face. UG reiterates that the plan is to replace Atlantis with Rey Escorpion, and we really need vignettes of Rey Escorpion telling Delta & Maya that they need to work harder on getting Atlantis to join them.

La Catedral makes the case that Dr. X – and others who are claimed to be favorites on the internet – are not pushed because no one’s cheering for them and buying their merchandise. People have got behind Valiente, Valiente got pushed, people have not got behind other people, they remain in the opener. That’s a long article I boiled down to two sentences, but one I agree with in parts. Especially Dr. X, who always seemed to me to be pushed right about the level he belonged; it wouldn’t be any great loss for him to leave CMLL if it didn’t abort the Fuego feud. Anyway, the easier counter to this argument is the lack of any Rey Cometa merchandise for me to buy.

SuperLuchas #425 has a bunch of different stories. My favorite on is the feuding Karonte/Dr. Karontes, where Dr. Karonte (Mistico/Argos/Argenis’ dad) explains he needs Hija de Karonte to change her name, because his wife keeps asking questions about where this daugther came from. SuperLuchas articles on the Dr. X press conference spells his name “Dr. Xtreme” in the setup, and spells it “Dr. X Xtreme” when Dr. X says this. This should’ve been obvious to begin with, but if you’re ever going to change your name at a press conference, you really should be spelling it out for everyone. (And also maybe decide what it is before hand.)

Meanwhile, Luchas 2000 #582 also has a bunch of stories – including either a typo or an expansion of the minis tournament – but has nothing about Dr. X on the cover. Amusing.

Black Terry Jr. posted video of Hammer vs Heddi Karaoui vs Negro Navarro from the 666 Mexico show in April in one two parts. A weird sounding match! I seem to remember this came about because someone no-showed, but I don’t have anything in my notes.

CMLL in Japan

08/07 NJPW:

08/07 REINA:
3)  Tomoka Nakagawa b Dama de Hierro (in four minutes)
5) La Comandante  [O] & Mia Yim b Manami Toyota & Saya [X]
