Sin Cara, Pimpinela, Lucha POP, Atlantis/UG

On last night/this morning’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said Sin Cara is definitely coming back to WWE after his suspension is over (08/16); the decision was only made yesterday. The latest Observer Newsletter mentioned Sin Cara merchandise sells very well to children under five, where no other WWE merchandise does well. No word where this leaves Averno at this point. My assumption is he’s still going, but it may be a month or two down the line (which would mean he’s around for Anniversary.)

The WON also says Verano de Escandalo drew “a disappointing 9,000”, but says the show was better than TripleMania and people threw money in the ring for the cage match (through the cage?) That part is harder to believe. There’s also this bit where Meltzer explains AAA was originally going to have Mickie James win the Reinas de Reinas title, but AAA didn’t feel secure in it’s relationship with TNA. I think, if you have enough confidence to give TNA your major heavyweight title, you probably can afford to give up the women’s title you don’t do anything with. The recap points towards Jarrett vs Mesias for Heroes Inmortales, which makes a lot of sense and would leave the Wagner vs Jarrett rematch for Guerra de Titanes.

AAA posted an audio clip of Sexi Star demanding Joaquin Roldan strip Pimpinela of the Reina de Reinas title for not actually being a woman. Pimpi says it’s fair for her to win this, because the women are as tough as the men. I’ve been very caught off guard by the very strong disapproval for this storyline from Mexican lucha libre fans; a lot agree with Sexi and are more overall angry about the title and luchadoras being ‘disrespected’. If this was Amapola’s title, I might have felt that way, but the AAA title isn’t defended more than once a year and is ignored most of the time. The interesting is, at least to fans on message boards (???), the title belts mean something. Don’t seem to mean much to the general population.

Speaking of: Tartu el Brujo Jr. talks about wrestling in the Juniors promotion, winning a random cruiserweight title from Gallo Tapado Jr.

AAA also sent out press yesterday, saying Copa Antonio Pena would take place at Heroes Inmortales (as usual.)

A DiaroBasta interview with Samurai del Sol reveals another Lucha POP match: Extreme Tiger & Fenix vs Samuray del Sol & Dark Dragon. This is not a joke: I would pay $10 to see that show. Like, if Black Terry Jr. or someone else wants ten American dollars, just let me know.

Speaking of Samurai, the video for the first part of the Pinta para la Corona (AAA talent search) tryouts in Veracruz – where Samurai was a finalists – is up on YouTube. Their site also has an interview with finalists Blazer and a short one with Keira.

Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero both are saying  “I don’t know why my friend is on the other side and I have no problem with him, but if he wants a fight, I’ll give it to him.” So, we’re still on Point A, and the main event Friday is just weird?

Rush, fresh off beating Yoshihashi, notes Tanahashi is coming to Mexico next month and has challenged him to a match – a hair match for the Anniversary show. Dream big! Link includes best picture of bald creepy Yoshihashi.

On the iPPV this weekend, IWL changed the name of their previous Internet title to “Junior Heavyweight”. I like Japan too. Anyway, they also say Daga will be defending the title in the US sometime in September.

Amo La Lucha Libre has video of Centvrion, Golden Magic, and Dinamic Black vs Comando Negro, Eterno, and Carta Brava Jr. from the Expo, another version of the Perros del Mal event, and interview with Craig Classic.

Rob has part 1 of a (WCW/WWE) Cruiserweight Spotfest showcase, plus a review of the IWL iPPV & 5 things to like in lucha libre right now.

LuchaWorld points to this week’s AAA TV.

CMLL in Japan

REINA announced the bracketing for the new joint Women’s title with CMLL. Dama de Hierro has a quarterfinal match on 08/14 versus Sendai Sachiko, and Zeuxis faces the winner of that match on 08/27. Final is 09/10 (the week before the Amapola/Ayumi title match.) Based on the bracketing and previous issues, I think they’re setting up Zeuxis and Ray as the title match.

La Comandante appeared at the press conference and got into a brawl, so she seems to be fititng in fine. Her debut match here is teaming with Mima Shimoda vs Aki Kanbayashi & Kyoko Kimura on 08/14.
