CMLL in Japan
08/01 NJPW: 1) La Sombra [2] b Wataru Inoue [0] (swan dive firebird splash)
(show was on PPV)
I haven’t written about the expectations for this tournament for Sombra, becuase there really aren’t much. It’d be nice if he did will and, last year, NJPW’s own super junior heavyweight did very well in this same heavyweight tournament, but that’s a NJPW guy and the rules are different for outsiders. If Sombra can get 4-6 points (2 to 3 wins out of 9 matches), that’d be perfectly acceptable. Strong Man is probably going to do the same, but it doesn’t feel like it matters as much to him. He’s still going to be Strong Man if he wins them all, loses them all, or gets hit by an asteroid. Strong Man is indestructable!
NJPW kicked off this tour by hyping it’s 10/10 show, which will include an appearance by Ultimo Guerrero. That’s the same time as the Lucha Fiesta show, which explains a bit how they were able to get him. Too soon to know the match, though they do establish UG’s heavyweight credientials by mentioning his title defense over NJPW’s Hirooki Goto and hint towards a title match here.
Amapola vs Ayumi for the CMLL Women’s title has been set for September 18 in Japan.
