Avernos win the trios titles, Polvora defeats Valiente, Super X

CMLL (FRI) 07/15/2011 Arena Mexico [Cesar, CMLL]
1) Bengala, Enrique Vera Jr., Molotov b Apocalipsis, Bronco, Disturbio
Molotov replaced Tigre Blanco. Tecnicos took 2/3
2) Amapola, Princesa Sugheit, Tiffany b Estrellita, Goya Kong, Marcela
Estrellita was dressed as Red Riding Hood. Rudos were DQed for excessive violence on Amapola in the first fall, and Estrellita pinned Amapola in the second fall. Estrellita challenged Amapola to a title match, but Amapola said Estrellita wasn’t on her level.
3) Pólvora b Valiente [MEX WELTER]
Valiente took the first, Polvora won a quick second, Polvora won the third with a Storm Cradle Driver. Inquisidor was his second, and acknowledged as his brother by radiocmll.
4) Mr. Niebla, Naito, Negro Casas b Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Delta
Rudos took 1/3, Negro stealing Atlantis’ mask (and not being caught by Tirantes) to set up the win.
5) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada [CMLL TRIOS]
Rudos took the first, Sombra pinned Averno to take the second, Ephesto surprisingly eliminated Ephesto and Mascara got Ephesto. Dorada took out Mephisto with a dive, which left Averno and Mascara in. The match ended with a campana – but it was Averno applying it to Mascara for the shocking win and title switch.

I have no idea! Very confused by the main event finish. Trios title change gets CMLL to 16 champions.

Super X (FRI) 07/15/2011 Arena Azteca Budokan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), Estrellas del Ring]
1) Durango Kid & Tornado b Íkaro & Radamantis
Durango Kid lives.
2) Eterno b Daga
Before the match, Oriental & Zumbido challenged these to team up and face them at some later date.
4) Angelico, Súper Nova, Zumbi b Histeria II, Oriental, Zumbido
Angelico was the surprise luchador. Shiima Xion was at the show, at least in photos squaring off against Angelico to hype their Lucha POP match.
5) Solar I & Trauma I DQ Villano IV & Villano V
Trauma replaced his dad. Started out as a technical match, ended in a brawl. Villano V took Trauma’s mask for the DQ.
6) Super Crazy b Juventud Guerrera [NWE CRUISER]
Juvi performed with the band, but was attacked by Crazy and they brawled around for a hardcore match. Super Crazy powerbombed Juvi on chairs twice for the win. Title is mentioned as the Super X championship, which may still be the NWE Cruisierweight Championship.

The advertised women’s title tournament match (Rossy vs Marcela) doesn’t seem to have happened in any form.

  1. 16 champions sounds like the Universal tournament is coming up soon.

By the way, on the Arena Coliseo Guadalajara facebook page, someone posted photos of Angel de Oro and Angel de Plata without mask twelve hours ago, and no one deleted it – if it is an official page, this would be another problem of the modern world CMLL isn’t able to handle. ;)

  2. Either the CMLL bookers still have no idea that he is going, or he will stay longer in CMLL as we thought…..once again.

  3. Everyone is so consumed with the Universal Title tournament but over on twitter Alexis said over a week ago it looks like it won’t take place until August.

  4. Well he has one more show to lose the titles at. But why would they give him a title reign for only a week?

  5. makes no sense. If Averno is leaving after next saturday, which would be his final show assumingly, why would they give them the trios title?

  6. Maybe they still want to swerve everyone? Guess we’ll find out at his supposed last CMLL show.

  7. For those wondering CMLL TV is delayed today and won’t air until 16:00 in Mexico which is 5pm EST.

  8. Arkangel is guest host.

Weird thing is they have new advertising that occurs during the match while the announcers are talking. Wonder how U.S. Gala will edit that out.

  9. Semi-main and main still to come so FSE gets women and Valiente/Polvora trios match. So next week Valiente/Polvora will be on FSE with the women again.

  10. I wonder if they are trying to squeeze the show into an hour. No cartelera segments, no Tania and they are cutting away without replays.

  11. Or the carteleras are airing but not on the net feed? So confused.

Tues main event: Sombra/Mascara Dorada/La Mascara vs Mr. Aguila/Olimpico/Psicosis.

  12. 52MX has 2 (minis)/5 from Sunday

Ras de Lona appears to be at Six Flags again.

  13. Cuije and Zacarias rode the merry go round, then turned on each other.

Ras de Lona has Tuesday as
    4) Panther, Valiente, Sangre vs Polvora, Misterioso, Okumura
    5) Alebrije in Olimpico’s spot.

  14. Friday has
La Mascara, Rush, Toscano vs Averno, Terrible, Rey Bucanero
Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis, Hector Garza vs Naito, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

  15. I think it may be time to look at the possibility Averno isn’t going anywhere.
Sure, it could just be his date getting pushed back, but maybe there is/was a visa issue, maybe he failed a physical, or maybe he got “Tremor Murdoch’d” and they just decided not to sign him…..

  16. Looks like for the second straight week the flyers are cut from TV. It’ll be really strange if they get a big match at Verano after having been off TV for the entire build-up but at least it’ll allow Konnan to go on F4D and say “these guys just can’t get over.”

  17. It definitely is being looked at.

I am sure he was going up June 30th – CMLL doesn’t do that mask match unless Averno demands (and Averno doesn’t demand it unless he’s losing it anyway), they’re running the Averno/Mascara rematches everywhere in a hurry, and Averno is scheduled to have his title match in Puebla with nothing announced for him past then.

And then, on 07/01, his team beats Generacion Dorada to start this trio title program. Maybe it’s a couple days before, but that’s the moment where things switched from wrapping up Averno ASAP to doing whatever it is they’re doing now.

  18. If something had happened that caused Averno not to come to WWE we probably would have heard something by now. It’s not like they kept his signing a secret.

  19. @Wirehead – Well, I don’t think WWE, CMLL, or Averno actually said he was leaving, did they? Wasn’t it just a story that broke in SuperLuchas, and then spread like wildfire? Not saying that the initial story was wrong, but the Murdock situation actually indicates that there were planned signings (well, at least one) that didn’t go thru for some reason.

  20. There are no visa issues as Averno has worked in Japan and the U.S. many times including after it was announced he’d be going to the WWE. I believe Cubs was there.

  21. Cubs should have barged into the backstage area and gone straight to Averno and asked him the hard questions. Start off with a “Hey fella, you going to WWE, ey?”

  22. Rob, I can assure you that is not difficult to work an independent wrestling event without a visa, unless you somehow get turned in. I know people that have gone both ways on both borders only with passports, and as “tourists”.
Big companies can’t chance it though. I don’t remember specifics, but I remember Lance Storm having visa issues when he jumped to WCW from ECW.

  23. @Nikita:

WWE isn’t going to take a chance with that after last years Wade Barrett/Drew Mcintyre debacle.

Good GDL show tonight. The title match and Main event were both fun. Who’s under the Zacharias mask? Can’t be mini Maximo as he was in Arena Mexico when the main happened in GDL.

  24. @Alfredo: When the Averno to WWE story broke the very same day Averno was in Chicago, I assumed that Cubs spoke to him, or that Cubs knew someone backstage who told him that Averno was going to WWE. At least I think it all went down the same day, or at least it was the same weekend.

  25. I think Nikita is 100% right. Not only is it clear that Averno is not going to WWE, but he’s apart of a recent trend of people reportedly being WWE bound who are not really WWE bound for whatever reason. It could be people jumping the gun or one of the two parties involved pulling out of the deal. In addition to Averno there’s been Trevor Murdoch as mentioned, I’ve heard Snitsky mentioned and also a situation involving Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli that looks similar to the Averno situation in some ways. Everybody has been saying Hero and Claudio are likely WWE bound soon, yet ROH has booked them for the main event of their first TV tapings under Sinclair next month.

  26. Not sure if people are being sarcastic or not, but trust me, guys do not get visas to work indy shows. Hell, Chris Benoit talked about it on his DVD, and even on the ECW DVD about how he had issues getting into the states to wrestle once they figured out that he was not just a tourist on a bereavement visit. I know a handful of Canadian wrestlers that work shows in the US that do so without visas, and I know guys from the US that have gone to Canada and worked shows. The issues they have come up are usually only after they have their baggage inspected, and they start asking questions about boots and/or title belts.
As far as Mexico goes, I am not gonna rat anyone out, but I personally know guys that have worked in Mexico with nothing more than a passport. I have also worked shows with guys from Mexico in the US, but I do not know anything about their work status. Hell, I even personally know British wrestlers that worked in the US sans any kind of documentation but a passport.
Work visas are very hard to get. Like Tim said, a large high-profile company like the WWE isn’t going to take any kind of risk regarding using someone that has a questionable work status. Lance Storm had visa issues with WCW because Jim Cornette was a WWE employee, and wouldn’t help renew the visa he got Storm when he worked SMW. Nigel McGuiness had visa issues when he started wrestling, because he was in the US on a student visa, and he graduated. I think Claudio Castagnoli even had to leave the US for awhile because of visa issues. You even see this stuff creep up in other sports. Hell, in spring training this year the Reds had an issue when one of their Dominican pitchers had their visa lapse; in turn he was not allowed to pitch in any games, but was allowed to practice and train.
So, I think it is pretty safe to assume that an indy promoter is not going to have the money and clout to get any foreigner a visa. In fact, I would be kinda shocked if all the guys that came over from NJPW for their tours back in May actually had valid visas for that.
I just threw the visa thing out there as a possible reason for why Averno might still be in CMLL if he is in fact signed with the WWE. I know nothing and it was purely speculation.

  27. @Nikita:

Not to turn this into a WWE blog but they have a couple people like this that are out because of visas. Like the girl from Shimmer is signed but waiting for her VISA along with some guys from England.

As for Indy people, I remember hearing about Lufisto trying to go to Japan only to get turned back cause she didn’t have a VISA or wasn’t allowed in the country.

  28. @Tim: Good catch Tim. I didn’t notice the double booking. I wonder if they just used Gallo’s little dude in place of Maximito.

  29. Would it be possible that CMLL just did that really to create the hype to get people watching/talking and coming out to see the live CMLL shows since the departure of Mistico and others jumping ship to AAA they just create their own hype to see if Averno was really going to leave, lose his mask, win championships etc. to help keep it interesting as it seemed with new luchadors being added to the booking comittee and people leaving that CMLL was on a downward spiral, and lucha business altogether being down that spreading a good rumor/story just helps bring some ppl in and keep them watching…

  30. @Chris: This isn’t how CMLL usually works.

    ACM had the 07/03 semimain:
    4) Hijo del Ninja, Humberto Garza Jr., Ninja Jr. vs Neurosis, Sky, the Beast

  31. Cartelera segments did air on Galavision. No Tania, probably because 90 minutes and all.

    I like Nikita’s visa explanation!

  32. new AAA expo card

    AAA (SUN) 07/24/2011 Centro Banamex
    1) Mascarita Divina & Octagoncito vs Mini Charly Manson & Mini Chessman
    2) Fabi Apache, Mari Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Cinthia Moreno, Esther Moreno, Polvo de Estrellas
    3) Argenis, Atomic Boy, Fenix vs Dark Dragon, El Brazo, Violento Jack
    4) El Elegido, Laredo Kid, Sugi vs Nicho el Millionario, Ronin, Tigre Cota
    5) El Mesías, La Parka, Octagón vs Alan Stone, Chris Stone, Zorro

so, basically, they took off everyone they needed for TV, and then threw whoever they had free in whatever spots they had open, regardless if it made any sense or not. Nicho is oh so suspended, I see, but Zorro being a freshly turned tecnico in the main event as a rudo actually bugs me more.

That is a Fenix match I am not excited for. Good job.

fact to impress your friends: there’s also a spot show in Puebla on this day, with Alebrije II & Gronda II vs Histeria III and Gallego (who may actually be the second Gallego, I just found out).

  33. I have heard it is incredibly hard to get any kind of visa in the US anyway. There was a blog a while back about an Australian guy who married a US woman, and had to wait 2 years just to get a temp visa for the country.

  34. I believe that Averno thinks or thought he’s coming to WWE. I’ll bet Mistico told him he could get him in but the deal was never finalized. That’s where I think it stands.

  35. I have a little knowledge of how the work visa situation works for the Mexican luchadors. No idea on the specifics of Averno and I certainly wouldn’t claim that there a not some (many?) who cross the boarder on tourist visas and work illegally. I seem to remember Nicho getting busted for this at the boarder while in a car full of people with valid visas a couple of years ago.

Generally speaking, the guys who have work visas have them with some umbrella group (Lucha Va Voom for one and there are probably others) and then they are theoretically booked to appear on separate indy shows as part of that deal. Most guys who have them keep them active so that they don’t have to jump through the hoops for every indy show they want to work in the US. When you want to go to work for the WWE though, you then need to get your previous visa canceled and get the proper paperwork filed with your new company. I wouldn’t be shocked to find out that this was taking longer than originally expected in Averno’s case.
