recap: 04/09, 04/17, 04/23, 05/01

Didn’t want four posts for five matches. I really should decide if I’m doing Saturday or Sunday dates for this show.

04/10: Máscara Dorada, Silencio, Stuka Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Navarro, 03/27/2011: mailed in, got better in the third fall but lower quality than you’d like. Decent Pesta Negra goofiness, but Navarro really wasn’t having anything to do with it. (fall 1, fall 2, fall 3)

Don't do this at home. Don't do this anywhere.

04/17: Último Guerrero vs Espartaco for the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship, 03/27/2011 (fall 1, fall 2, fall 3): If you told me Espartaco was someone who’d wrestled at a very local level once a month and somehow had enough money to buy himself a singles match with Ultimo Guerrero and went for it, I’d totally believe you. (I think LMdLL said he was someone’s trainee.) Espartaco had no shortage of hold he’d like to try, but a big shortage in actual stamina. You can miss this, definitely
04/17: Hijo del Ninja vs Rey Demonio Jr. in a lightning match, 03/27/2011: tough to tell how good this was since it was so clipped, but it came off as two inexperienced indy workers trying more than they could do. Not without hope, but a lot of stuff looked poor.

fat man tope

04/24: Corazon Adicito vs Sombra Chicana for the AMERICAS championship, 04/17/2011. (fall 1, fall 2, fall 3): I just did this to avoid an unbroken string. (In other words, I have severe mental problems.) Shockingly, this was a perfectly acceptable title match. Sombra Chicana looks like a guy who should be really bad – he’s fat guy wearing a Sangre Chicana mask who claims to be his brother but there’s no reason to actually believe that – but he was fine here and Corazon Adicto was your usual indy técnico. You don’t need to go out of your way to watch this but it wouldn’t be end if you did

all you need to know about this match

05/01: Caifan I, Máscara Púrpura, Silencio vs Antifaz del Norte, Hator, Veneno, Arena Coliseo Monterrey, 04/17/2011: (not on the website), This was definitely a match that took place in Monterrey. Definitely Monterrey lucha libre. Comedy match with a supposedly serious angle at the end that came off as totally minor league. Most shocking turn of events was Mascara Purpura going a full match without a shooting star press. Caifan might actually still be good, tough to tell here.

  1. Congratulations Spartaco, you are a fat man with a tope who wrestled one match this year. You are now guaranteed top 20 in next year’s wKo list!

  2. @Tim: 1 would suffice. Heck, I think the year before a guy worked matches in only 2008 and made the 2009 list. Pretty sure if photos existed of Signo punching people while he was drunk in bars he’d squeeze in at 15 or so.
