CMLL Gaceta previews Valiente vs Virus for the Mexican Welterweight Championship, noting they were both trained by wrestler Fuerza Aerea.  I’d expect Valiente to hold on to the title.

A day before Aerostar was strechered out in Chilpancingo, Aerostar was strechered in Puebla after injuring his noise on his dive. Noticing a pattern. A child he hit also suffered a bloody nose.

TNA TV show will now start airing at the exact same time as the AAA TV show. I’m thinking that doesn’t help (though I’m not sure it matters.) Speaking of unfortunate timing, Drago is going to debut on US TV this Sunday doing the same green mist spit Rey Misterio did last night at the WWE PPV. Drago did it a month before, not sure it matters.

CMLL (SUN) 05/08/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Bengala vs Bobby Zavala & Zayco
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hombre Bala Jr., Sensei vs Mortiz, Rayo Tapatío I, Rayo Tapatío II
3) Metal Blanco, Metro, Palacio Negro vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Yoshihashi
4) Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Rush vs El Alebrije, Misterioso II, Olímpico [MEX TRIOS]
5) Black Warrior, Máximo, Strong Man vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Dragon Lee seems to have been disappeared from the Gen2011 vs Rayo Tapatios feud for a while.

No Forjando un Idolo quarterfinals here. That must mean they’re doing the other half next Friday (05/13), and they’ll be doing the semifinal and finals on the same night (05/20.)

Alebrije, Misterioso, and Olimpico winning those trios titles would get CMLL to 15 champions (+ the lightweight title.) On the other hand, that is a bizarre trio and one I’d never expect to beat Angel de Oro, Diamante and Rush in any other situation. I don’t think they’re losing here.

  1. Dude, do you like the idea of bringing TNA guys to AAA? Do you think they can make a difference? What would you suggest?

  2. @Arakas: I like the idea of bringing in specific guys, but I don’t think you need to bring in “TNA”. TNA means less in Mexico than it does in the US, and that’s a low bar to limbo.

Plus, bringing in a lot of people does you no good. You can only get fans to care about so many unfamiliar people at a time. Bringing in outsiders is supposed to make big shows feel special, but the specialness is worn off it there’s a half dozen different guys mostly in nondescript roles. It’s like any other gimmick, over do it and it loses it’s impact.

Bringing in Jarrett to work the title match makes some sense, though this is probably the wrong champion and wrong title reign for that. (Wagner vs Jarrett would’ve been huge. Mesias vs Jarrett might have gotten Mesias over as the super tecnico they wanted him to be. Zorro is a nut case.) Maybe you bring in someone to face Jack and/or Tiger that can give them a really good match. And maybe one more in either the Perros vs Psycho Clowns or Air Force vs Super Fly feuds to freshen them up since neither seem to be advancing this PPV. (As leader of the Milicia, Super Fly brings back Hernandez to help out or something.) But that’d be about it.

(I don’t think this is what they’re going to do at all.)

  3. So I guess kinda like Wrestlemania has Undertaker’s undefeated streaker, Triplemania has the yearly defense of the Cruiserweight Title.

  4. I like to see a back and forth with talent from different groups, if the talent is being used well, and not just thrown out there.
While not always the case, CMLL tends to use the guys from NJPW very well. CMLL has done great stuff with No Limits and Liger, and I would think that the payoff with Goto last week went well (but not in the same class as the other examples). NJPW has never seemed to build up and use the CMLL guys in the same manner though. For example, I don’t think you would see Sombra winning the JR Championship, or Texano/Terrible walk out of NJPW with the Tag Titles.
However, when CMLL guys go elsewhere, like TNA, it always seems like they are just there , and aren’t built up in a way to draw any money and as a big deal. TNA had Buccanero & Guerrero tagging on their television show, and they no more distinguishable than if they just grabbed Atlantis & Rush and threw them out there together as “Representatives from Team Mexico”. Then they had Volador Jr., and the only time they used him was an Ultimate X match.
I feel the same way about when AAA brings in Japanese or Americans as well. Like Cubs said, Jarrett paired off as the evil American rudo against the right guy might make AAA some money with the proper build up. But just taking a handful of TNA guys and spreading them thru the card, or even worse as a “Team TNA” would do nothing to help the draw.
