CMLL (FRI) 04/08/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Metálico & Trueno b Inquisidor & Tiger Kid
Neat headscissors/armbar submission by Metalico to get the win.
2) Ángel de Plata, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Arkángel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skándalo
While the other two did dives, Pegasso got Nitro with a Toyota roll for the win.
3) Hijo del Signo b Guerrero Maya Jr. [lightning]
Signo won via headlock takeover, with his feet scissoring the bottom rope, at 7:42.
4) Misterioso Jr., Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura b Metro, Stuka Jr., Valiente
Valiente and Stuka set Misterioso and Polvora on the top rope, which backfired into the rudos landing their big moves (with some help from Okumura.) As they got the pins, Okumura put Metro in a figure four leglock.
5) Atlantis, Hirooki Goto, Negro Casas b La Sombra, Rush, Strong Man
Atlantis replaced Mr. Niebla. Sombra dived on Goto, and Rush and Strong Man took out Atlantis & Casas with power moves at the same time. Tirantes slow counted, but the rudos still couldn’t kick out.
6) Escorpion & Último Guerrero b Máscara Dorada & Metal Blanco [Gran Alternativa, final]
Both rudos just cleanly landed their moves (quebrada, Guerrero Special) for the win. A spectator tried ran on the ramp and tried to climb one of the corners during the finish, but a security guy pulled him away.
Impacto‘s article on the Forjando un Idolo tournament (nearly reprinted by Record, so it may just be CMLL PR) adds a previously unmentioned wrinkle to the tournament: there will be fan voting for the favorite wrestler of the week, and that wrestler will pick up an extra point. Not sure if 1 wrestler per group or 1 wrestler in the entire tournament. The article starts of by saying CMLL’s running this tournament because they have no stars, which is probably not the way to go for a hype article.
Not much new from Ras de Lona. They interviewed all the Forjando un Idolo teams, of course. Valiente (8th) and Pierrothito (5th) talked about how many times they’d now defended their belts, both about 3 more than we have. (Rush said his defeat of Bucanero was his first defense, so one is right.)

Lineup
CMLL (FRI) 04/15/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov & Sensei vs Apocalipsis & Mortiz
2) Diamante, Fuego, Sagrado vs Hooligan, Loco Max, Raziel
3) Delta vs Dragon Lee [Forjando un Idolo]
4) Metal Blanco vs Guerrero Maya Jr. [Forjando un Idolo]
5) La Sombra, Rush, Strong Man vs Mr. Águila, Olímpico, Rey Bucanero
6) Héctor Garza, Hirooki Goto, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero
That’s group Charly. Probably should do predictions before this gets started on Monday.
This is possibly the most interesting match up Goto has gotten since arriving. It’s not a high bar.
I guess Rey Bucanero and Aguila are friends? They probably have the same chance of winning that match either way. Ras de Lona had Alebrije in Bucanero’s spot, and Bucanero in Dragon Rojo’s place.

About to set up to record AAA and it’s listed as being 1 hour.
@LLL: Hmm. This is is what I get for checking their website. They’ve also changed the show name to “Lucha Libre AAA”, which may or may not throw off DVRs.
And I think it’s great. I wish someone would have the balls to bring back the concept of a one hour flagship show, instead of two hour “events”.
I’ll be interested in hearing how they do it, if it is cut down to 1 hour. The 1 hour version that aired in Peru when I first arrived had all ring entrances cut out and highly clipped matches (along with cutting any of the noticia type stuff which made total sense of course). But, withe those shows, you can also make up a lot of ground by just going with reasonable commercial breaks.
@Alan: That’s what will decide what the content within the hour will be, because Televisa/Galavision & reasonable commercial breaks don’t go well together.
With the victory in the GA, thes would, in theory, put Escorpion in line for bigger and better things. With him fresh off of a hair loss in Puebla, where do you think CMLL is going to go with him?
For all of the grief you can give the programmers at CMLL, it is obvious with what they are going with Gen11 and the FI tournament and so forth, that they are trying to establish new talent, but not just shoving someone up the card that is not worthy. Escorpion is a veteran of sorts, but new to the DF. Do you think he has an honest shot in DF, or is he shaping up to be a replacement at the midcard for LocoMax?
@Alan: I’m going to guess that at some point, Galavision will get the show “off the bird” like CMLL and won’t have time or interest in editing.
CMLL on Galavision always has to have a very very short block, sometimes just 30 seconds, in order to create 10 commercial breaks.
CMLL appears to be two weeks of the Gran Alternativa combined. Probably just gonna show final 4 of each block.
Yep, Niebla/Signo vs Sombra/Diamante starts out. So all first round stuff cut out.
1 match per commercial break averaging 3 minutes in length.
Lots of filler w/ interviews, Foranjo un Idolo promos, etc. Right now it appears the big push is going to Toscano’s wife who has dominated TV time.
52MX got the Gen11 trios and Rush/Bucanero title match, surprisingly.
Looks like quite a bit of editing on the AAA show. Wouldn’t be surprised if they decided they had 3 hours of TV footage and it was just easier to do 1 hour this week and 2 hours next.
The AAA block logo…no bueno. I believe its covering up the Sky PPV logo, but you would think they could find a better way to do that.
Wow, that’s a move I’ve never seen Mascara Dorada do before.
Crazy how green Dragon Lee and Metal Blanco are. They’d fit right in doing those IWRG rookie shows. Blanco looked completely lost on the stacked up superplex spot.
@Rob: Dragon Lee and Apocalpsis had a grand problem in the first fall of the 52MX match.
Also, I’m not sure if you know this, but Semental is very good. I can not believe he’s not in one of these four groups; the only thing I can figure is they don’t want that gimmick and have plans for a different one, but the look is good (if they could find him a decent shirt.)
@thecubsfan: Yes, I am aware of this Semental fellow.:) Bad time to be a talented undercarder though with all the juniors running around who are bound to get pushed ahead based on their bloodline.
It’d be interesting (and very time consuming) to compare the average of the CMLL roster right now compared to 10 years ago. Or even 5 years ago.
Two other things:
1. Volador Jr. and Dragon Lee both cut promos together and neither sounded over the age of 13.
2. Palacio Negro completely botched whatever he was trying to end the semi-final and appeared to be shaken up.
They fixed the AAA logo in time for the Rey de Reyes match.
Uh..now they’re back to the blocked AAA logo. They had a different one during intros. Strange.
LATV is back to the openers.
04/01
1) Höruz & Robin b Bronco & Cholo
2) Dr. X, Hooligan, Nitro b Metálico, Starman, Tigre Blanco
Interesting with Metalico using a remix of the Magnum P.I. theme
Second hour is a rerun.
Stupid C3 link is down. Was looking forward to the show too.
Bonus: Both C3 links down!
Not a good night for the Tecnicos in GDL. Angel Azteca in particular looked awful. Whenever this show airs on Teleformula, we need a gif of Cujie doing the “You can’t See me” pose. He’s awesome.
So with WWE running tv tapings in Mexico in October, Are CMLL going to book a show the same day with Psicosis finally losing his mask?
6 blocks, 40 minutes for AAA. So they got robbed by 4 minutes, even during a one hour version.
I wonder what will happen on 4.17? Any ideas?
ACM has the Negro Navarro match.
Am I missing something with Metal Blanco? I haven’t really been super impressed by him yet. Just for his Gen11 group alone I’d have atleast Signo, Palacio and Gallo above him.
Telefomula
02/22 GDL
Black Metal & Palacio Negro DQ Hooligan & Skándalo
Sangre Azteca, Stuka Jr., Valiente DQ Rey Bucanero, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
Terrible, Texano, Volador Jr. b Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada
Thanks Felino!
Unless I missed a really short opener, AAA TV starts with Aero Star/Laredo Kid vs Chris Stone/Super Fly. Also lots of hype for the Pachuca taping hinting someone important returning.
@Rob: Is that the phoenix (or Fenix) very short animated vignette they posted on YouTube a while back? That one was also airing on the TV version of Rey de Reyes, so they’ve got four weeks of hype towards…something.
@thecubsfan: I believe so, yes. The ByL forum seems to think Mascara Sagrada is returning. I can’t imagine anyone in charge of AAA thinks Sagrada coming back is: a) neccessary or b) worth all this hype.
They are airing things out of order here b/c Secta vs Milita is coming up next. *shrug*
@Rob: Did they air the Super Fly is in charge bit ever?
The mystery guy is a mystery just because I’m not sure who they could bring back who’d mean a lot. Mascara Sagrada would not, but I’d guess it’s more that I’m not thinking of someone. Latin, again?
@thecubsfan: The new Alebrije finally debuting on AAA TV?
@Calabcd44: Maybe the Iron Mask Zorro reveal?
The Perro Aguayo Jr. story sounds very worrisome.
I’m going to guess the vignette is for the return of a heel clique. Maybe some redo of Vipers?
I was thinking Gronda II will be back. I thought I saw him somewhere in that promo.
@thecubsfan: Was this the promo you meant? -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDykrDJsqbQ
The one that aired today was sorta like that but much longer.
Gronda is interesting.
In the US, it was shortened, not only to remove the date, but sloppy editing.
