CMLL Sin Piedad TV Recap (12/03/10)

taped @ Arena Mexico, 12/03/2010

Recap: LATV, the rest
File: LATV.

Don’t have a handy download (or YouTube) link for the rest. Matches 3 thru 5 aired on TV, and main event aired has only aired on SamuraiTV. That’s where I watched the top four matches. Probably less editing than Televisa, though even they were cutting out in between falls to fit in two hours. The only match not around in some form (yet) is Mr. Aguila vs Rey Bucanero and…well, you don’t need to see that.

This is a combo of CMLL on LATV (03/05/2011) and the SamuraiTV airing of the full show. Guess I could’ve tracked down the Televisa episode, but I think I’m seeing more of the matches this way.

Stuka

Dark Angel, Luna Mágica, Marcela vs Estrellita, Mima Shimoda, Tiffany: Luna’s roll thru the ropes to chase Estrellita was nice. I dunno why she won. Dark Angel and Marcela were good, Tiffany was better than she had been up to this point, and Estrellita’s outfit looked nice.

Delta, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Euforia, Pólvora, Sangre Azteca: back in the early stages of the Sangre Azteca turn, when we knew he was turning but they had yet to repeat the rudos turning on him fifteen times. You know, I could understand the rudos picking Dragon Rojo over Sangre, Dragon’s connected, don’t want to mess with the wrong people. I can see picking Misterioso, Misterioso’s a real rudo’s rudo: cocky, evil, a little bit fat. But Polvora? Polvora’s just a guy. I think you throw Polvora over the boat to keep Sangre in your union.

(I wrote that back weeks ago, before I realized how many consective anti-Polvora posts I’d be writing. Perhaps too hard on him!)

Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto: Heavy build for Fantasma/Mephisto, which would’ve been great if they actually did that match. Given what else was on the card, they really could’ve used a better match in this spot. The accidental mask removal threw off everyone, referees most definitely included.

Pequeño Warrior vs Eléctrico [mask]: Electrico did not at all look ready for prime time this match. He was nervous, sloppy and lost in what wasn’t a long match. It’s possible pequeno Warrior might be a guy who can have a really good match with a really good wrestler (he’s been great with Octagoncito & Dorada), but can’t make an inconsitent luchador better. Electrico has looked much improved in 2011, but I don’t know if it’s because he’s actually gotten better or if he’s just much better in trios. This was a star making match where Electrico did not come off as a star.

Latino, Místico, Shocker, Strong Man vs Atlantis, Felino, Héctor Garza, Negro Casas: Exactly what you’d expect from the guys in this match. I was confused watching this why they’d have Latino just easily and definitively beat Garza in this match if they wanted to go someplace with that feud. Upon further reflection, this was along the lines of Santo @ TripleMania, giving the outside star a win in hopes it’ll convince them to come back more. It’s only worked slightly better. This possibility was the best match on the show (and surely the most over), but an unremarkable match except for the novelty. This wouldn’t be in the top five of CMLL matches in a normal week. There are better Latino matches.

STRONG MAN

Rey Bucanero vs Mr. Águila [hair]: At times, one more distant, I’ve been really big fans of these two guys. I think I still over rate them; they’re definitely guys I who’d I rank higher on a list of guys I like than a list of guys who are actually good in 2011. I’d really like to tell you that the clip on radiocmll was an abbreviation and the rest of the match was great. I just can’t. This match was bad the whole way thru. The ending sequence was the nadir, but most of the match was not good, and this would’ve been a subpar main event on a normal show. A poor end to a disappointing show, which surely would cause CMLL to guarantee the next major show made up for it.

(Oh, right.)

Aguila & Bucanero had some help. As with the last match, the rudo Tirantes spots stuck out like a sore thumb in the first fall of this match. The bigger problem is this whole feud was about Bucanero being cheated, but more by Tirantes than by Mr. Aguila. Bucanero’s win needed to be him overcoming the interference (like Latino in the previous match), but it was commissioner Rambo who defeated Tirantes by ejecting him. Once Tirantes was gone, it was just a match of two upper guys who aren’t big stars who didn’t particularly have a strong issue of their own. Aguila didn’t feel like much of an outsider here, and the fans weren’t into Bucanero when he had a fair ref. It was up to the luchadors to get them match over completely on their own, and they couldn’t do that on this night.

Mr. Aguila vs Sombra in Guadalajara was very good. That seems to point a finger at the problem here, but different nights can change things. Or Sombra could’ve just been awesome in 2010, a definite possibility.
