CMLL (SUN) 03/13/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
***Fan Appreciation Show, March (Sun)***
1) Camaleón & Robin b Cholo & Zayco
2) Inquisidor, Mortiz, Rayo Tapatío I, Rayo Tapatío II b Bobby Zavala, Dragon Lee, Hijo del Signo, Hombre Bala Jr. [cibernetico]
Veterans won, but not without some controversy. First two out were Zavala (Mortiz spanish fly), Hombre Bala (Rayo II), leading the rookies down 4-2. Signo & Lee eliminated Mortiz, but then Signo fell next. That left Rush’s brother versus both Tapatios and Inquisidor. Dragon Lee spectacularly eliminated Inquisidor with a SSP. Tapatios started using rudo tactics on the young tecnico, but Lee still beat Rayo I. It looked like he might get Rayo II as well, but Inquisidor got involved, and Rayo II stole Dragon Lee’s mask to set up the winning cradle.
3) Fuego, Metro, Sagrado b Dr. X, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
Rudos took the first, tecs the last two. Sagrado and Okumura continue to feud.
4) El Alebrije, Olímpico, Psicosis b Averno, Ephesto, Rey Bucanero [semifinal]
5) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Terrible, Texano Jr., Volador Jr. [semifinal]
6) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b El Alebrije, Olímpico, Psicosis [final]
Cuije and Zacarias fought during this match. Looks like Niebla and Felino won it clean for their team.
7) La Sombra b Mephisto [NWA WELTER]
Tecnico won the first, rudo won the second, tecnico won the third. Springboard flip ‘rana (Dragonrana) for the win in about 30 minutes. New champion.
Title match will air next week on Fox Sports. This a surprising change to me – it seemed like that if Sombra was going to win a singles title, it was going to be from Jushin Lyger (or at least he’d keep trying), and if Mephisto was going to lose this belt any time soon, it’d be to Fantasma. Feels like plans have changed.
Demus feels he learned a great lesson from a great maestro who just had more experience than him. Demus says this was a hard loss, but he wants to win another tournament to go back up to the major leaguers in August and then get a rematch in August. I’m not really high on the idea of doing another torneo de ascension so soon.
Heavy Metal‘s DUI got a lot of press attention, though it’s basically the same police report with different pictures. Heavy Metal blew a .45 mg/liter, and I’m not very sure how to convert that to the unit we’re used to in the US. Metal was kept in jail for 7 hours, then an injunction was filed on his behalf to suspended the rest of the sentence. When this same thing happened with Octagon, it was very unclear if he really went back to serve the rest of his sentence. AAA’s had concerns about the shape Metal’s shown up to shows in the past, but I would guess he’s okay here if he still showed up to tonight’s show fine.
Dark Angel won the TNA Women’s Tag Team Championship tonight. Last time she won it, there was a mention of in CMLL shows but nothing more, so it makes sense to expect the same.
SuperLuchas #405 has interviews with Rey Misterio and Ultimo Guerrero. Guerrero, having a good week for saying things, says it’s up to the leaders to make decisions but he doesn’t think CMLL should do a deal with AAA. He very much parrots the company line from last week’s programming interview – everyone’s down, not just CMLL, one guy doesn’t make a difference but Mexican wrestling must be strong if WWE just took their top guy.

Fantasma doesn’t appear to be coming out of the doghouse anytime soon.
I can not wait to see that cibernetico, sounds like it had a cool story.
