CMLL (SAT) 02/26/2011 Arena Lopez Mateos [Estrellas del Ring, Black Terry Jr. (flickr)]
***Shocker 20th Anniversary Show***
1) Eléctrico & Soberado Jr. b Aguila de Oriente & Brazo de Plata Jr.
This is the Brazo de Plata Jr. last seen from IWRG, I believe. It appears that’s the CMLL mini in the match, but there’s no clear shot.
2) Dalys la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Marcela b Amapola, Estrellita, Tiffany
3) Fabián el Gitano, La Máscara, Máximo b Euforia, Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
4) Puma King & Tiger Kid b Scorpion & Semental
one fall match
5) El Alebrije, Histeria, Psicosis b Delta, Fuego, Valiente
Invasors were helped by Tirantes. CMLL ref Babe Richard hiptossed Tirantes after the match.
6) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Volador Jr. DQ Averno, Mephisto, Texano
Volador turned on his teammates for the DQ.
7) Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, Metro, Rush b Dragon Lee, Felino, Höruz,Negro Casas
8) Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero b La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Stuka Jr.
Card was very changed from what was announced, with many matches that don’t seem to make any sense. It wouldn’t have been that hard to fix it (swap Sangre and Volador, swap Tiger/Puma with Dragon Lee/Horus.) Shocker, now wearing a brace instead of a cast, was honored after the semifinal
CMLL (SUN) 02/27/2011 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II b Bobby Zavala & Ramstein
The rudos were originally Disturbio/Ramstein, then Disturbio/Zavala, and finally Ramstein/Zavala. Rayos still won.
2) Astral, Pequeño Halcón, Pequeño Maximo b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior
3) Cancerbero, Skándalo, Yoshihashi b Arkángel de la Muerte, Molotov, Pegasso
Pegasso returns! Just in time for Rey Cometa to go missing. Arkangel filled in for him. Unlike the last time this happened with the Tuareg, Arkangel was a completely professional tecnico and feuded with Skandalo during the match. Skandalo beat him with a Skandalo Driver, and the two made up with a hug after the match.
4) Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Valiente b Atlantis, Último Guerrero, Vangelis
Vangelis replaced Volador. They both do start with V, I guess. Double Atlantida on Panther and Valiente to end it.
5) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada
Averno & friends are getting their title shot next week.
On AAA’s website, Dorian Roldan expands on his Twitter comments earlier in the week: AAA and CMLL need to work together to combat CMLL. Dorian blames the problems on the bird flu, the economic issues and the security issues. The product itself is not discussed, except for talk about improving the look of the show (HD cameras in six months, a new set, complaints about the lack of major league stadiums.) Dorian says the WWE product is much worse, except that’s the product Mexicans seem to be watching. Dorian also says he doesn’t want to talk to Panico about this, but Paco Alonso. Good luck on that!
El Brazo talks about the ups and down of his career and fame in an interview with Mi Lucha Libre.

- SuperLuchas #403 has an interview with Mistico. The smartest part of the interview is when he’s asked if he wants to work with Alberto del Rio and Rey Misterio – Sin Cara says he wants to work with Randy Orton and John Cena. He doesn’t want to be a top Mexican wrestler, he wants to be a top wrestler.
Lineups
IWRG (THU) 03/03/2011 Arena Naucalpan
1) Eragón & Freelance vs Carta Brava Jr. & El Pollo Asesino
2) Eterno, Multifacético, Veneno vs Comando Negro, Hammer, Magnifico
3) Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan vs Negro Navarro & Trauma I [IWRG IC TAG]
4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs Joe Lider, Nicho el Millionario, Último Gladiador [IWRG IC TRIOS]
Both title matches set up this past week. Figure Oficials retain when the AAA team falls apart. The Piratas each have a singles title and the tag titles, and I’d bet against that staying that way.
CMLL (SUN) 03/06/2011 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Principe vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Ángel Azteca, Ángel de Plata, Metálico vs Bronco, Escorpion, Tiger Kid

4) Brazo de Plata, Máximo, Sangre Azteca vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
5) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto [CMLL TRIOS]
Sangre Azteca getting to explore his issues with the Guerreros is a bit interesting. There seems to be a few Generacion Dorada vs Triad matches on the horizon in different locales.

That’s some random top two matches.

Shocker anniversary show, yet shocker is nowhere to be seen!
somewhat correction: AAA and CMLL need to work together to combat WWE ;)
@therza: Check again. There are some Shocker photos from that show.
I guess Dorian is trying to put together a CMLL/AAA show or tour to compete with the WWE tour in May, in addition to an overall year-round plan to compete.
Dorian does not blame Televisa for fucking with timeslots and running 24 minutes of commercial per hour, which is 8 minutes more than WWE or any other Televisa program. Even the telenovelas are on the standard 16 minuters per hour. If CMLL and AAA are going to work together, they should first stand up to Televisa.
Dorian is correct about the lack of venues in Mexico. In the US we have an NBA/NHL standard venue in every major market, and the secondary markets like Ft Myers and Wilkes-Barre.
WWE’s last tour in Mexico did not do well. In fact, if you go back to the time period when they went from 52mx to Televisa and Azteca, there is no noticeable spike in house show business. Let’s see what happens in May.
Which brings me to my next rant. Cable/satellite. Cable and satellite are growing fast in Mexico. I am willing to bet that 75% of the weekly CMLL crowd has cable or satellite. For AAA, I’ll bet that at least 50% of the fans who attend Rey de Reyes have cable or satellite.
Both CMLL and AAA need to move their flagship shows to cable.
So happy that Sangre is matched up with Ultimo Guerrero in Coliseo hopefully we’ll get to see how far Guerrero can Monkey Flip him.
Funny how Dorian never mentions the fact that if AAA and CMLL unite it will put at least 50% of their wrestlers out of work b/c who would need a 300+ person roster? Wonder how that would go over with his talent roster.
Is Dorian even educated? We know he got the job b/c of family connections but does he have any sort of business degree? He seems beyond clueless about how to conduct business most of the time.
@Rob: I have not seen Dorian’s degree, but I do remember it was said he was studying business while Pena was alive, and he was being groomed to take over the company.
I think Dorian was smart for doing this little stunt. He did it hours after the WWE Mistico press conference dominated the media, generating more publicity than AAA has in years. He knows that ratings are down too. He figured he had to do something.
I am of the opinion that the Roldan family will end up selling AAA at some point. Probably to CMLL. Possibly to WWE. It must be a grind for them dealing with payroll, egos, injuries, cartels, and all the other issues facing the company.
But then how will Dorian get laid? (or try?)
@Rob:
He’ll join the Guardian Angels?
