8) Atlantis & Máscara DoradaFelino & La Máscara [natl pi, quarterfinal]
9) Atlantis & Máscara DoradaDiamante & Volador Jr. [natl pi, semifinal]
expected winners win, and face Team Red/Blue (Team Purple?) next week.
10) Blue Panther, Rush, Super Porky DQ Terrible, Texano, Último Guerrero
Straight fall win for the tecnicos, Texano desperately fouling Porky in the second. Terrible & Texano continued to beat up Porky until Maximo made the save. Father and son made a hair match challenge. Texano and Terrible accepted!

My assumption/slightly educated guess is that match will happen at Dos Leyendas, but it will not be the main event – there had always been a plan of two main event level matches for that show and that match would work. If this is the sole main event, there’s a problem.

CMLL’s clearly been anxious to do a Super Porky hair mask, first teasing one with Volador (which would’ve been bad for everyone) and then doing this one. It’s surprising Maximo’s involved after the week that was – Cesar argues they shouldn’t trust him in this spot, but I’m not that concerned. Maximo is getting what he wants out of this match, and perhaps that’s a reason he’s not going anywhere. Seems like Rush got moved out of this spot for Maximo, but I suppose Tuesday’s title match is his consolation prize.

Rey Misterio Sr. is promoting a new Hijo del Rey Misterio, which begs many questions. DJ Spectro says the original Hijo del Rey Misteriso was said to be not ambitious enough, but is either one actually his son? It’s not very clear.

Both AAA and Lucha Libre USA tape tonight. AAA has a mystery figure in the main event, LLUSA has a mystery air date. Dorian’s Twitter mentions Perro Aguayo Jr. will be at the AAA show – he’s not in a match right now unless he’s the mystery guy.

Ras de Lona taped their show this week from CMLL’s press conference set. Sneaky hilarity, I like it. Mostly the feuds you’d expect and the teams for last night’s block. Mephisto & Fantasma argued in their interview, with Mephisto even saying he’d rather beat up Fantasma than win the tournament. There was a brief Magnus interview – the red in his gear comes out stronger on TV, but the big headscissors they showed as highlights looked a lot like a new guy still working on his speed. They didn’t show his dive, oddly. Rush did a good promo for his title match. They were clearly setting up Texano (& Terrible) vs Rush/Porky here. Texano was pretty emphatic when he said Rush was no star, Texano was a real star.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 02/25/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Bengala & Robin vs Semental & Zayco
2) Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr., Magnus vs Dr. X, Loco Max, Tiger Kid
3) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Sangre Azteca vs Misterioso Jr., Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura
4) Rush vs Rey Bucanero [lightning]
5) Máximo, Super Porky, Toscano vs Héctor Garza, Terrible, Texano
6) Blue Panther & Dragón Rojo Jr. vs Atlantis & Máscara Dorada [natl pi, final]

Atlantis & Dorada winning back to back years would be odd but not unprecedentedly odd for CMLL. Dorada is on a  hot streak, too.

Rush faces the current light heavyweight champion on Tuesday, and the previous light heavyweight champion on Friday.

More Sangre Azteca vs two of his rivals.

Magnus is back, and now everyone’s ready for him. That’ll be interesting.

  1. Running little late this morning. Well, afternoon now!

conjuarez says Bam Bam/Olimpico aired on Fox Sports. First time they’ve done that wrong in a while.

the 2pm (CT) LATV airing is indeed a last rerun of last week’s episode. It seems like my local affiliate is actually airing it complete, though we haven’t yet gotten to the first fall that’s usually cut out.

The normal 6PM airing (and one of the reruns) popped back into my onscreen schedule sometime Friday. Just TV listings being weird, I guess.

  2. Speaking of Puerto Rico, IWA just announced that Mesias would be making his return to the company. Mesias is currently the WWC Universal champion so I guess that Title is now vacant.

  3. Finish to the UG/AdO vs Terrible/Toscano match may have been the dumbest finish I have ever seen. Terrible power bombs Angel De Oro and has the 3 count but yanks his mask off before the 3 count. Except he never pulls his mask off, he just grabs the mask which comes a bit loose. Toscano… Terrible’s own partner… points out to the ref that Angel De Oro’s mask is loose and the ref calls the DQ. Once again: The mask never came off. Why was there a DQ? Why was Toscano trying to cost his own team the match? Why is Terrible purposely getting DQ’ed in a tournament when he has the match already won?

  4. Continuing the shitty finishes: Panther pins Guerrero after reversing his reversal of a sunset flip. So the Heavyweight Champion got pinned after never having a single move done to him in the match. He just couldn’t figure out how to escape a reversal of a reversal of a sunset flip. Tremendous.

This tournament has been uninspired and just plain bad.

  5. 52MX has Azteca/Fabian/Metalico vs Hooligan/Nitro/Raizel and Rush/Stuka/Valiente vs Felino/Mephisto/Texano (2 & 4)

  6. Re: New Hijo del Rey Misterio

Ages ago, I remember seeing a picture of the current Hijo del Rey Misterio with another ‘Misterio’, this one being Rey Misterio III. What ever happened to III? And could this be the new ‘Hijo del Misterio’?

  7. @Adam: Yeah I remember the first time I saw the newest Rey Jr. he was in a class with another Rey Misterio (III) who was his younger brother but only like 13/14 at the time. Wonder if he’s taking over the gimmick b/c he’s better?

Either way it’s very strange Rey Sr. would do something like this to his own kid (unless it isn’t his real kid in the first place).

A new authentic Misterio who is actually related to Rey Misterio Jr. (WWE) could be huge for Mexico. Taking the gimmick and tarnishing it like this by having a new guy under the mask and soon enough the older one running around claiming to be the “real” Rey Jr. II is just destroying a sure fire $$$ making gimmick. It’s really sad.

  8. GDL has 01/11
    4) Shigeo Okumura, Virus, Yoshihashi b Black Metal, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro
    5) Máximo, Rush, Toscano DQ Héctor Garza, Texano Jr., Volador Jr.

  9. AAA commentary notes that Sexy Star lives in Texas

The way AAA introduced the groups for RdR was totally amateur. They did not even announce them. Just quickly flashed images on the screen. How bad?

  10. What will become of the previously existing Mysterio he can’t use the name or he will continue? This guy looks older, and more stalky than the last…

  11. @Chris: The picture is actually an old Rey Misterio Sr. photo. No one’s quite sure what the previous Hijo is doing, or if he’s doing anything.
