2011 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#980)
Mexico: 03/13 – last show before Rey de Reyes takes place
US: 03/26

Lineup from here.

Mesias vs Park with random partners.

Carlitos = Carlito (Colon.) It was the same deal in Masked Warriors, WWE owns “Carlito”. Figure he’s the favorite and back for Rey de Reyes.

Metal/Shock is the third match. Vale Todo means no rules means every other Metal/Shock match.

Fabi Apache is supposed to still be out with a leg injury, so perhaps Lolita will get another match. ? might be Gran Apache, might be Sugi, might be someone else.

CMLL & AAA both have big shows on 03/17 on o3/18, and are tied at one match announced each. Maybe AAA will fix that tonight. AAA has one taping after this one – in Morelia – before Rey de Reyes.

Wagner/Parka vs Park/Silver, Terrible/Bucanero, Magnus

IWRG (SUN) 02/27/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), Estrellas del Ring, The Gladiatores]
Attendance: 2400
1) Alan Extreme & Dinamic Black b Imposible & Keshin Black
2) Fresero Jr. & Montana b Hammer & Magnifico
There was a Montana who showed up a single time in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara. Unknown if they’re the same guy, but it’s an odd name. This one was last seen teaming with Angel Mortal Jr. on a trainee show.
3) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Avisman, Destroyer, El Hijo del Diablo
Sherry tried to help out, failed.
4) Ángel Mortal, Head Hunter I, Pirata Morgan b Black Terry, El Brazo, Negro Navarro
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & La Parka Jr. DQ LA Park & Silver King
Estrellas del Ring says this match went 50 minutes. Around the arena brawling. Rudos took the first, tecnicos took the second. In the third, referee Rosas was knocked down. Silver King fouled Parka, but the ref was out. Silver fouled Wagner too, and Park pinned Parka. Rosas counted three, then awarded the match to the tecnico for either the fouls or the ref attack.

Sold out building.

CMLL (SUN) 02/27/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Camorra & Durango Kid b El Divino & Metatrón
Divino replaced Black Metal
2) Eléctrico, Meteoro, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
Surprise: Meteoro beat champion Olimpico to win the match for this team.
3) Metal Blanco b Inquisidor [OCCIDENTE WELTER]
Blanco had a knee injury but still retained the title.
4) Felino & Negro Casas DQ Héctor Garza & Texano Jr.
Peste Negra were cheered in this match. Negro faked a foul from Hector Garza to take the match.
5) Terrible b Rey Bucanero
Texano came back out to second Terrible, and helped him use the ropes to get the first fall win. Texano interfered in between the ring, but Zacharias got Texano with a silla and a headscissors and Bucanero was able to beat Terrible to take the second fall. Texano was ejected before the third fall started. Zacharias tried to get involved in the third fall, but Terrible slapped him down and beat Bucanero.

Magnus was using La Mistica this weekend, including on Volador in Monterrey. Not sure why CMLL is pretending they haven’t decided Magnus is taking over the gimmick when they’re making it so obvious.

AAA tapes tonight in Irapuato. Highlights are the third Rey de Reyes semifinal and Parka and Cibernetico again in trios matches.

Hijo del Solitario took Javier Cruz’s hair in their apuesta match. Match went four falls after the third was a double countout. Solitario’s gold match was red by the end of the match. Solitario explained they wanted to do the match in Arena Mexico, but Arena Jalisco got it done.

Mini Abismo Negro underwent double knee surgery recent. The right knee was the the most injured and required the ACL to be repaired. No word on when he’s expected to return to the ring. Rey Bucanero was out 6.5 months with just the ACL.

The main event in Arena Coliseo San Luis Potosi yesterday was Rayo de Plata I, Rayo de Plata II, Rayo de Plata III vs Rayo de Plata Jr., Rayo de Plata IV, Rayo de Plata V. The first three were said to be from Puebla and claim to have used the name of the long running SLP name.

***Shocker 20th Anniversary Show***
1) Eléctrico & Soberado Jr.Aguila de Oriente & Brazo de Plata Jr.
This is the Brazo de Plata Jr. last seen from IWRG, I believe. It appears that’s the CMLL mini in the match, but there’s no clear shot.
2) Dalys la Caribeña, Goya Kong, MarcelaAmapola, Estrellita, Tiffany
3) Fabián el Gitano, La Máscara, MáximoEuforia, Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
4) Puma King & Tiger KidScorpion & Semental
one fall match
5) El Alebrije, Histeria, PsicosisDelta, Fuego, Valiente
Invasors were helped by Tirantes. CMLL ref Babe Richard hiptossed Tirantes after the match.
6) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Volador Jr. DQ Averno, Mephisto, Texano
Volador turned on his teammates for the DQ.
7) Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, Metro, RushDragon Lee, Felino, Höruz,Negro Casas
8) Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último GuerreroLa Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Stuka Jr.

Card was very changed from what was announced, with many matches that don’t seem to make any sense. It wouldn’t have been that hard to fix it (swap Sangre and Volador, swap Tiger/Puma with Dragon Lee/Horus.) Shocker, now wearing a brace instead of a cast, was honored after the semifinal

CMLL (SUN) 02/27/2011 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío IIBobby Zavala & Ramstein
The rudos were originally Disturbio/Ramstein, then Disturbio/Zavala, and finally Ramstein/Zavala. Rayos still won.
2) Astral, Pequeño Halcón, Pequeño MaximoPequeño Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior
3) Cancerbero, Skándalo, YoshihashiArkángel de la Muerte, Molotov, Pegasso
Pegasso returns! Just in time for Rey Cometa to go missing. Arkangel filled in for him. Unlike the last time this happened with the Tuareg, Arkangel was a completely professional tecnico and feuded with Skandalo during the match. Skandalo beat him with a Skandalo Driver, and the two made up with a hug after the match.
4) Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, ValienteAtlantis, Último Guerrero, Vangelis
Vangelis replaced Volador. They both do start with V, I guess. Double Atlantida on Panther and Valiente to end it.
5) Averno, Ephesto, MephistoLa Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada
Averno & friends are getting their title shot next week.

On AAA’s website, Dorian Roldan expands on his Twitter comments earlier in the week: AAA and CMLL need to work together to combat CMLL. Dorian blames the problems on the bird flu, the economic issues and the security issues. The product itself is not discussed, except for talk about improving the look of the show (HD cameras in six months, a new set, complaints about the lack of major league stadiums.) Dorian says the WWE product is much worse, except that’s the product Mexicans seem to be watching. Dorian also says he doesn’t want to talk to Panico about this, but Paco Alonso. Good luck on that!

El Brazo talks about the ups and down of his career and fame in an interview with Mi Lucha Libre.

Lineups

IWRG (THU) 03/03/2011 Arena Naucalpan
1) Eragón & Freelance vs Carta Brava Jr. & El Pollo Asesino
2) Eterno, Multifacético, Veneno vs Comando Negro, Hammer, Magnifico

4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs Joe Lider, Nicho el Millionario, Último Gladiador [IWRG IC TRIOS]

Both title matches set up this past week. Figure Oficials retain when the AAA team falls apart. The Piratas each have a singles title and the tag titles, and I’d bet against that staying that way.

CMLL (SUN) 03/06/2011 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Principe vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Ángel Azteca, Ángel de Plata, Metálico vs Bronco, Escorpion, Tiger Kid

4) Brazo de Plata, Máximo, Sangre Azteca vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
5) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto [CMLL TRIOS]

Sangre Azteca getting to explore his issues with the Guerreros is a bit interesting. There seems to be a few Generacion Dorada vs Triad matches on the horizon in different locales.

IWRG (SUN) 03/06/2011 Arena Naucalpan

Magnus did a tornillo into an armdrag at the close of the match on Tiger kid, while his partners wrapped up the match in the ring.

Sangre Azteca single handily beat both Misterioso and Polvora to take the match.

Straight fall win for the Dos Leyendas underdogs, though they used the ropes to do it.
6) Atlantis & Máscara DoradaBlue Panther & Dragón Rojo Jr. [natl pi, final]
Champions repeat in a third match.

Mistico

In a column published on SuperLuchas, Angie Roux of Amodelaluchalibre says Mistico was among four luchadors who tried out for WWE in October. Mistico was hired, two others were told not, and the fourth one was given an offer but preferred to stay in Mexico to be with his girlfriend. I hope that relationship works out.

Ras de Lona did air a short bit from the press conference about Mistico, but it was not the bit of Panico standing around awkwardly and answer questions from the crowd – they must’ve realized how that looked and retaped something after the press conference. Panico again made the case that they offered Mistico a new contract, Mistico verbally agreed, and then sneaked out rather than sign the deal. No one but CMLL cares that CMLL owns the name and gear, but they feel this is very important for them to emphasis. Even CMLL knows it’s not too hard to slightly modify the name and gear.

SuperLuchas says they will have an interview with Sin Cara in this week’s magazine.

Kcidis illustrates CMLL’s efforts in signing Mistico.

Other Stuff

Virus & Demus’s match on Tuesday seems be no-stip, with the losers losing hair and going back to the minis match for some unknown date. I wish they were clearer on this. Tuesday is a Fan Appreciation day, not mentioned on the poster.

Morelos luchador Baron Siniestro passed away earlier this week. He was mostly active in the70s and won local best rudo and best luchador awards. La Union, El Sol de Cuernavaca and Estrellas del Ring have obits.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and last week’s Ras de Lona.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 03/04/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Camaleón & Tigre Blanco vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Fabián el Gitano, Sensei, Starman vs Loco Max, Mortiz, Puma King
3) Goya Kong, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola, La Comandante, Princesa Blanca
4) Averno, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs Máscara Dorada, Rush, Valiente
5) La Sombra, Máximo, Super Porky vs Héctor Garza, Terrible, Texano

More Dos Leyendas build in the main event. Mr. Niebla returns, and finds himself caught in the Averno/Dorada feud. Ras de Lona had Hijo del Fantasma and Volador in their spots. Fantasma is in at least a two weeks stretch off Arena Mexico shows. Anyway, Averno & Dorada on the card allows CMLL to announce the title match for 03/18 if they decide to put a date to it.

I wish, for 03/11, CMLL did a big Averno/Mephisto/Ephesto/Texano/Terrible vs Mascara Dorada/Fantasma/Rush/Super Porky/Maximo ten man tag. But they probably won’t.

Oficials down, Mistico, CMLL

IWRG (THU) 02/24/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), Estrellas del Ring, Mi Lucha Libre]
1) Alan Extreme & Dinamic Black b Imposible & Muerte Infernal
2) Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro, El Pollo b Eragon, Explosivo, Freelance
Pollo is now so evil, he’s teaming with the man who took his mask.
3) Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan b Negro Navarro & Trauma I
Navarros asked for a tag title match, and will get it next week.
4) Joe Lider, Nicho el Millionario, Último Gladiador b El Brazo, Oficial 911, Oficial Fierro
AAA squad won in straight falls in a hardcore match. Gladiator and Nicho got their backs ripped up. Brazo stepped out of the match after being hit with a chair. AK-47 (martinete last week, never moved again) tried to help, only to take a piledriver.

Only four matches. Not sure why.

Mistico

Every single sports section in Mexico might have an article on Sin Cara to WWE. Most are just the same notimex story, but it’s everywhere. Sin Cara was also doing a lot of TV interviews at the press conference. Did LA Park and Psicosis get this level of press when they left? SuperLuchas has video of the WWE press conference, and

Record’s Salvador Rodriguez, last seen claiming Mistico was talking to AAA before the Antontio Pena Memorial show (which does appear to be correct now), lays out a timeline for Mistico’s fall out with CMLL. Mistico was frustrated about not being able to take outside bookings and CMLL not running big matches and started to look for a way out in October. It’s kind of implied that Volador/Mistico not being resolved was the breaking point, but in the big picture, I think Mistico wanted CMLL to book more like WWE. CMLL’s top guys get a few big matches scattered thru the year, WWE’s top guys are getting big matches on a monthly basis.

The Gladiatores has video of the Panico and Guerrero del Futuro answering questions about Mistico at CMLL’s press conference. (JCR stands with them, saying nothing.) Panico and company seem unprepared for the volume of questions about Mistico’s departure. He know what he’s going to say, they’re just not ready for so many questions about it. Panico at first just stands at the side of the stage answer questions before the production people usher him into the center and the luchadors who are supposed to be in this big main event are just waved off the stage like after thoughts. (One of the production people seems to be waving to someone to get the Texano and company to leave earlier in the video, but no one picks up on it.)

Panico told the press that Mistico’s move to WWE couldn’t be for the economic reasons, but for sport reasons. I’m not sure how Panico knows what Sin Cara is getting paid by WWE when he didn’t even know he was getting signed by WWE, but calling your own promotion minor league is not the way to go.

Panico also seems pretty confident they can just grab another kid out of their school and make him a big star. (“No one is indispensable.”)  They probably shouldn’t have waited so long to do that! Panico says they’ll have their new Mistico soon. The timeline of Mistico’s contract seems to change during Panico’s Q&A. When asked, Panico says Dos Caras Jr. left on better terms than Mistico.

Estrellas del Ring has short video from Sin Cara’s press conference. CMLL Gaceta has interviews with Mr. Niebla,Virus vs Demus, and Brazos vs Terrible/Texano.

On Twitter, Jim Ross said Mistico is training in Los Angeles. They’re surely working on some vignettes and highlight packages, since they won’t be able to use the CMLL footage to introduce him.

Cesar rates the news sources on their Mistico to WWE news the last month. (This site doesn’t get rated; I can only assume there are no words in the Spanish language to adequately describe my level.) I can’t actually remember anything SuperLuchas got wrong, but I hope what people get out of this misadventure is a better understanding of what the magazines are trying to do in 2011. Luchas 2000 is a promotional device for a few promotions. Box Y Lucha appears to be holding on to relevancy by their fingernails and their history, who are more than willing to trade long term bad will over being misleading to sell a few more copies this week. SuperLuchas is trying to find the sweet spot between the old magazines and insider news, hoping that sweet spot actually exists. None of this is wrong as long as you know what you’re buying.

Dorian Roldan took to Twitter to congratulate Mistico, say WWE wasn’t interesting him, and campaign for a CMLL vs AAA show, to create something never to be seen before. (No.) If he really wanted such a show, asking for it on Twitter isn’t quite the way to reach them. Even their official Twitter-er wasn’t around yesterday.

Other news

CMLL is going to continue running shows. A daring move! Tonight’s Arena Mexico show has the final of the national tournament and a trios to set up the one announced for Dos Leyendas. Also, we get to see who Magnus dresses up as this week! SuperLuchas has the preview.

Not a lot of talk about Dos Leyendas. Estrellas del Ring has video from the non-Mistico segments. Terrible called Brazo de Plata outdated and Maximo “his daughter.” Virus/Demus and Dorada/Averno were left curiously undated. The feeling is, they’ll add one of those matches to Dos Leyendas only if they feel the fans aren’t buying tickets to the show in advance. In the meantime, they’ll focus on the main event between the two guys who’ve never lost a hair match and the family that always loses hair matches.

Arena Coliseo Monterrey Sunday was originally supposed to have Mistico/La Mascara vs Averno/Volador Jr. Then they were supposed to have Magnus/La Mascara vs Averno/Voldor Jr. Now, they may have nothing – a poster on LMdLL notes everyone but Magnus is booked on the Arena Coliseo DF show the same day.

Unlike La Mascara, Stuka Jr. is excited to team with Sangre Azteca.  He thinks the two of them could challenge for the tag team titles or reform Poder Mexica with a third.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Hey, it’s the main event of Dos Leyendas. I don’t think this will sell out. Maybe that’ll be a big enough sign to the people in charge.

CMLL on CadenaTres #165 (01/29/2011)

what is this move called?

recap: here
file (for the one match): here

Recapped the whole show, more just because I know I’ll get the recap up that way. The opener was just ordinary. Valiente/Virus matched up in the segunda, and that is great every time that happens. Main event was better than I was expecting.

Amapola vs Marcela for the CMLL World Women’s Championship: I’d like to think I’m still right about it being annoying for CMLL to do this match. I may not be. It really doesn’t change this match, which was very good. Just a full sprint from the opening whistle, with nearly everything going right and the crowd totally being into the match by the end. Maybe you could make the match more dramatic if hair was on the line, or longer with some perfunctory mat work, but it’s hard to have Amapola & Marcela having a better match than this. There may be more spectacular matches, but there won’t be any one where everything goes so perfectly.
