IWRG (SUN) 01/16 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry @ flickr, Al Filo del Ring, Estrellas del Ring, Mi Lucha Libre (1), Mi Lucha Libre (2)]
1) Alan Extreme & Imposible b El Pollo & Eragon
2) Freelance, Multifacético, Super Kendo b Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro, Eterno
3) Ángel Mortal & Gran Apache DQ Black Terry & Negro Navarro [super libre]
4) Damián 666 & Hijo del Lizmark b Oficial 911 & Oficial AK47 [Copa Higher Power Tag, semifinal]
5) Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan b Trauma I & Veneno [Copa Higher Power Tag, semifinal]
6) Damián 666 & Hijo del Lizmark DQ Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan [Copa Higher Power Tag, final]
Four team tag tournament had it’s share off issues. The Perros del Mal team beat the Oficials via foul. Piratas won clean to get to the finals and were 50/50 with the Perros in the main event. Just when they were getting to the finish, the Oficials ran in the main event and attacked the Perros for the DQ. Morgans were not happy, and the Perros talked of a trios title match (with Halloween as the third man) versus the Oficials. Pirata and son are tag champs here, so that’s probably also supposed to be wrapped up somewhere in here.
Maestros match was supposed to be super libre, but ended with Gran Apache faking a foul to draw a DQ. That seems not to work in that match. Angry Black Terry challenged the AAA-ers to a hair match. Angel & Apache easily accepted, because Terry will be at a disadvantage. Negro Navarro’s bald, so he can’t put up anything, and Black Terry will be in triangle with two rivals.
Super Kendo is debuting here; I presume it’s the new one introduced a couple months back, not the ex-Transformer. (I bet I’d know this already if I listened to DJ Spectro’s interview.) Sounded like that tecnico team did well. Eterno suffered some significant injury in the first fall of the match, but managed to finish. The recaps praise his professionalism.
Pollo maybe needs a new name if he’s not dressing like a chicken any more. He’s back to the Kevin look.
Black Terry Jr. has video of the opener: (fall 1, fall 2?) and of the Angel/Apache vs Terry Apache (part 1, part 2) Al Filo del Ring’s recap mentions he’ll have video of Apache/Angel vs Navarro/Terry later. His youtube account is GuerrerodelRing207. If you like any of this stuff, make sure you’re clicking the Like button to let the uploaders know.
CMLL (SUN) 01/16 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [El Occidental, Fuego en el Ring]
1) Acertijo b Metalik
2) Inquisidor & Loco Max b Metatrón & Virgo
3) Ángel de Oro & Ángel de Plata b Drago & Exterminador
4) Gallo, Hijo del Fantasma, Valiente DQ Felino, Sangre Azteca, Volador Jr.
5) La Máscara b Rey Bucanero [MEX LH]
Bucanero took the first fall, Mascara the second. Bucanero went after Mascara’s mask in the the third fall. After some near falls, Bucanero yanked Mascara’s mask for a pin, but Mascara kicked out. Fantasma, Mascara’s second, tossed his mask back to him and Mascara took the match with a casita.
– starting a search for new Mexican Powers and never mentioning this again.
– alerting La Parka to Octagon’s attack.
– wrestling openers once every 10 weeks.
Cibernético, Escoria, Taboo vs El Ilegal, Hernandez, Zorro: Random hot tag stytle match. Taboo didn’t really add anything, didn’t really take anything away, was just part of the match. Nice good tecnico debut for the group that’s supposed to be rudos. It’s a show that really didn’t matter.
CMLL (SUN) 01/16 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, Cesar]
1) Camorra & Zayco b Freesbe & Principe
2) Astro Boy, Höruz, Starman DQ Apocalipsis, Demus 3:16, Skándalo
3) Cancerbero, Euforia, Raziel b Fuego, Rey Cometa, Tigre Blanco
4) Blue Panther, Super Porky, Toscano b Atlantis, Averno, Héctor Garza
5) Místico DQ Último Guerrero
Two singles matches, two wins for Mistico. This one was a bit of a harder win – Ultimo Guerrero got caught fouling him for the DQ. Nothing is settled. As usual.
Guerreros/Avernos and Invasors are feuding, but everyone got a long fine on the rudo side of the semimain.
Tigre Blanco seems like a replacement for no Pegasso, but that’s where they poster had him. (Which maybe means everyone else was busy elsewhere.) It sounds like it may be a long time – if ever – we see Pegasso again due to leg injuries and Rey Cometa may need to make new friends. Cancerberos won cleanly here.
Guerreros Tuareg may have made a New Year’s Resolution to make Starman miserable. Tecnicos took the segunda in straight falls, because Skandalo ripped off Starman’s mask and left him laying. A couple weeks ago, Dr. X did the same thing.
indy (FRI) 01/14 Auditorio de Tijuana [DJ Spectro]
1) Animaniac & Shamu b Spark & Super Mofles
2) Cincio, Viento, Zarco b Enfermero Jr., Memo Velasquez, Tony Casanova
3) Arandú, Star Boy, TJ Boy b Angel Metalico, Camaleon de Oro, Rubi Gardenia
4) Angel Blanco Jr., Hijo de LA Park, LA Park b El Hijo de Rey Misterio, Hijo de Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Latin Lover
5) El Hijo Del Santo b Blue Demon Jr.
Santo won with a foul of all things. Usual mask challenges after the match. This was the best match of the night.
Sounds like a much better attended show than last week’s Misterio Sr. benefit, and a much better run show. Latin Lover and Hijo de Rey Misterio are mentioned as being “erratic”.
CMLL GDL’s Twitter says La Mascara held on to the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship over Rey Bucanero, and Noches de Coliseo announcer RJ Figueroa says Chica de Arabia lost his/her hair to Medico Infernal in ACM tonight.
The newest Super Luchas mentions El Hijo de Medico Asesino has signed a developmental deal with WWE. I have no idea who that is – there’s a lot of people who’ve used similar gimmicks in different parts of the country, including one in IWL late last year.
DJ Spectro notes two recent passings: Chamaco Ayala, an Acapuclo luchador who also wrestled as Gran Bardo, was killed in his hometown. Ayala looks to have been a regular on Arena Coliseo Acapuclo cards from the 90s until they stopped running and had some appearances in Mexico City (including taking Panico’s hair!) Jesus Santana, who wrestled as Chico Malo III and Rudy Santana, passed away on the 8th via diabetes.
Nino de Fuego reportedly broke the record for highest dive ever in Arena Aficion. He pulled a New Jack, of course. Nino and his partners Mascara Oriental & Ares (not Puebla) have faced rivals Antar, Cronos & Sairus at least 10 times in the same trios match over the last six months in Arena Aficion. There’s only been 40 shows in the building since then, so once every four shows (or every other week), they’ve done the same exact match. I have many question about what they must think about this, but the big one has to be “Why?” Anyway, doing a match that many times easily explains why people are jumping off high balconies by this point.
Mephisto says it’s not his fault his punch is so powerful and Fantasma’s jaw is so weak.
Tigresa Caliente is interviewed to promote next week’s Lucha Libre USA shows. She probably gets to work an actual women’s match this time, with all the people being signed, rather than being oddly lumped in with the minis.
You remember that great Super Nova poster/card lineup from a couple weeks back? This must be the designer’s flickr account. There’s more vivid and eye catching lucha art there. I hope people outside of Xalapa give him some work, because it’s really good. (Link via WagnerMania.)
Porra Fresa counts and grades the women and minis who wrestled in Puebla this year.
The Gladiatores has an interview with Madero’s Reptilius
Luchas 2000 #553 teases the return of Mr. Niebla and Black Warrior. Niebla is surely to CMLL (his name wouldn’t be in the best of 2010 most popular rudo poll if they didn’t plan on having him back soon), but Warrior is probably a return to the independents, a return to existing in the lucha world at all, and not necessarily back to Arena Mexico.
IWRG (THU) 01/20 Arena Naucalpan
1) Imposible vs Keshin Black
2) Dinamic Black & Miss Gaviota vs Eterno & Hammer
3) Chico Che, Freelance, Saruman vs Alan Extreme, Maldito Jr., Samot
4) Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco vs Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
5) Multifacético, Pimpinela Escarlata, Trauma I vs Comando Negro, Scorpio Jr., Último Gladiador
Semimain is not listed as a title match but they’ve been setting it up. That’s an eclectic main event tecnico crew.
CMLL (FRI) 01/21 Arena Mexico
1) Leono & Molotov vs Disturbio & Zayco
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Dragon Lee, Rey Cometa vs Hijo del Signo, Loco Max, Skándalo
3) Delta, Diamante, Metro vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) Pólvora vs Sangre Azteca [lightning]
5) Blue Panther, Rush, Valiente vs Mephisto, Terrible, Texano
6) Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. vs Héctor Garza, Olímpico, Psicosis
The top two matches are booked with the plan of “whoever we didn’t send to Japan”. The first NJPW/CMLL is the 22nd, but just a few hours after his one wraps up. Only thing of note here is Sangre Azteca and Polvora finally being able to fight each other on purpose for a change.
CMLL (SUN) 01/23 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Trueno vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Astral, Bam Bam, Fantasy vs Mercurio, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Plata, Metálico vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Nitro
4) Ángel de Oro, Hijo del Fantasma, Valiente vs Terrible, Texano, Vangelis
5) Negro Casas, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. vs El Alebrije, Olímpico, Psicosis
More rudos vs Invasors and Metalico escaping to the tercera for similar depth reasons. I sure hope they don’t book the guys coming back from Japan on the 01/24 Puebla show (but they usually do.)
CMLL (SUN) 01/23 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) El Divino vs Acertijo
2) Hierro & Leono vs Camorra & Infierno
3) Meteoro, Mini Maximo, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
4) Felino & Gallo vs Misterioso Jr. & Sagrado [Relevos Increíbles]
5) Blue Panther, Rotoporky, Toscano vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Rey Bucanero
Felino/Gallo feud continues here. Misterioso actually held the same title those two are feuding are before Gallo. (There’s a Mictlan reign in between, but he doesn’t seem to exist any more.) Sagrado was available.
IWRG (SUN) 01/23 Arena Naucalpan
1) Centurión vs Keshin Black
2) Kamilion & Sexy Lady vs Dark Lou & La Hechicera
3) Dinamic Black, Dr. Cerebro, Freelance vs Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro, Imposible
4) Multifacético, Trauma I, Veneno vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
5) Black Terry vs Gran Apache, Ángel Mortal [hair]
Even though the loser of the main event seems pretty obvious, it should be fun getting there.
Getting bookings on La Hechicera is what this IWRG/AAA deal is all about. (Actually, it’ll probably help the indy girls to work with someone who knows what they’re doing, so I shouldn’t be making fun.)
FMLL CMLL (SAT) 03/05 Guadalajara
1) Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Black Warrior, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
2) Puma King, Tiger Kid, Virus vs Dr. Cerebro, Trauma I, Trauma II
3) Blue Panther & Solar I vs Negro Navarro & Satánico
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Valiente vs Héctor Garza, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Oro II vs Fantasma de la Ópera [mask]
6) Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
Note this shows don’t have a locked down building. The promotion talked about using Plaza Liberacion, but it doesn’t sound like a done deal. Oro II vs Fantasma de la Opera builds of their feud at the 2009 GDL lucha libre festival. That’s the first time we’ve seen Mr. Niebla’s name listed on a future lineup in months. Some matches of obvious interest here.
FMLL AAA (SUN) 03/06 Guadalajara
1) Aerostar, Gato Volador, Súper Fly vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
2) El Brazo, Extreme Tiger, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Alan Stone, Decnnis, Tigre Cota
3) Sexy Star vs Mari Apache, La Hechicera, Jennifer Blake, Súper Estrella, Fabi Apache, Magnifica [hair, mask]
4) El Mesías, Electroshock, Jack Evans vs Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown
5) Cibernético, Dr. Wagner Jr., La Parka Jr. vs LA Park, Silver King, Zorro
Cibernetico will have been a rudo directly feuding with Parka for months and months before this show, so I guess AAA’s usual house show booking hard at work. The pushed feud in the hair/mask match is Super Estrellas vs Cinthia Moreno. She’s one of two Gran Cochisse daughters; the La Magnfica is either her sister or her mother.
AAA on this date means Rey de Reyes won’t be on this date. AAA being here means that show won’t be.
AAA TV (SAT) 01/15 Centro Civico de Ecatepec, EdM [AAA]
1) Mascarita Divina & Octagoncito b Mini Histeria & Mini Psicosis
2) Fabi Apache & Pimpinela Escarlata b Sexy Star & Yuriko
3) Cuervo, Espíritu, Ozz b Billy Boy, Decnnis, Tigre Cota
4) Alan Stone, Chris Stone, Súper Fly b Aerostar, El Elegido, Octagón
5) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown b Bestia 666, Damián 666, Halloween
6) Charly Manson, Cibernético, Escoria b Extreme Tiger, Jack Evans, La Parka
There were also two different in ring interview bits, so there’s plenty of material for two weeks here. My guess is week 1 is 1/2/Bizarros interview/5, and week 2 is Konnan interview/3/4/6.
Konnan came to the ring before the opening match, crowing about all the Sociedad achievements at Verano de Escandalo. (Good idea, since it’ll be a month since anyone saw it.) Zorro won the title, Los Perros ended the Streak, and LA Park defeated Mesias. This last one causes Mesias to come out, and Konnan to clear the ring. Konnan promised Mesias would have to deal with LA Park and a surprise from AAA’s past. LA Park isn’t actually booked for the next taping, so maybe this is a long term Konnan plan.
Match order was flipped to have the minis start off the show. Octagoncito won via submission.
Pimpinela and Fabi are the mixed tag champions, which is thing I’ve forgetton since it’s been so long. They won the non-title match here, will do the trios version of this on the next taping.
Bizarros were over as tecnicos with the crowd. They’re supposed to be rudos. Cibernetico told a tale of about his three year old god son – La Parka’s son. The child is a brat, Cibernetico explained, so he had to make take corrective action. Cibernetico showed off an x-ray, so the idea is Cibernetico hit La Parka’s child so hard that he needed to go to the hospital. Okay. La Parka waited until Cibernetico finished his story to run out and try to kill the man, but the Bizarros beat Parka up. Tiger and Jack ran them off and Parka vowed revenge and all that.
Ozz beat Tiger Cota via Darketa. Super Fly and the Stones attacked the match, bleeding into the start of the next match. Alan yanked off Elegido’s mask and cradled him to win that one.
Bestia 666 made his AAA match debut, replacing X-Fly. I like to pretend X-Fly refused to do the job here because he’s a triple champion, but I’d guess the reason was a lot less dramatic. Bestia took the pin, but Perro Jr. turned up to help yank off their masks post match. Challenges after, and it feels like they’re setting up a triple masks vs hair match for down the road.
Charly returns to AAA with a submission win via El Pozo over La Parka, which I’m not sure he would’ve gotten had he not left on his 2010 odyssey. La Parka not only lost, but the Bizarros forced the x-ray print from earlier on him, then went off to celebrate.
CMLL (FRI) 01/14 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Fuego en el Ring, MT, Cesar, SuperLuchas]
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II b Escorpion & Hijo del Signo
2) Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b Bam Bam, Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada
3) Dark Angel b Princesa Sujei [lightning]
4) Averno, Terrible, Texano b Metro, Rush, Toscano
5) Mephisto b Hijo del Fantasma [NWA WELTER]
6) Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero b Máximo, Místico, Super Porky
Semimain bled into the main event. Usual quick split falls (Mephisto, Fantasma) to set up a long third fall in the title match. Averno stuck around after his match to second Mephisto, and Mistico came out early to second Fantasma. That probably should’ve been a warning sign since they usually grab random guys from the undercard, not people who still have matches. Late in the third, Averno tripped Fantasma coming off the ropes. Mistico jumped on the apron to protest and the commissioner ordered Averno to the back. They were still calming down Mistico while Averno was leaving, and the referee (Tigre Hispano) did not see Averno pass brass knuckles to Mephisto. Mephisto socked Fantasma with the knucks and covered him to retain the title. Fantasma was out and had to be helped to the back. One of the radiocmll announcers called it an Antonio Margarito punch, which was a fine line.
Angry Mistico attacked Averno and Mephisto, and the rudos laid him out and stole his mask. Besides setting up an interesting possible relevos suicidas for Dos Leyendas, that meant Mistico was getting medical attention in the back while the main event started. Pesta Negro took full advantage, rushing out to attack Maximo & Porky as the walked to the ring and winning a quick first fall. Mistico returned in time for the second, but took himself out with a dive onto Felino. Negro & Rey knocked down Maximo, front suplexed Porky on top of his son, held on for one pin, then rolled them over for another pin. It was nifty move and it got them the sweep. Super Porky was angry with Mistico after the match.
Toscano, the captain, took a double powerbomb for the loss in the fourth match. That was Rush’s first loss since Copa Junior.
Dark Angel won in 5:53
End of the minis match went bad for those involved. You can see it on the radiocmll.com clips (which should be up for all the matches), but the worst was Dorada not totally connecting on a diving headscissors to the floor. Dorada’s head slammed on the floor, knocking him out. Mascarita regained conciousness backstage but was held for observation. Bam Bam’s dive was off enough to kick Mini Warrior in the face on the way down. There was a tease of some Bam Bam/Mascarita Dorada tension in the first fall.
Tirantes worked as a referee on this show – in the minis show at least, and maybe more – but didn’t seem to influence the finishes. Attendance was very good.
Ras de Lona had a ton of interviews to catch up on recent news. Not a lot of news, though they did give us a interview with the next IWGP Tag Team champions Okumura & Atlantis. (Or not.) Those two, Mistico, Maximo and Mascara Dorada were all interviewed specifically about the shows in Japan. Announcers and Maximo did not seem to know who Dino is, so that’ll be fun.
Today’s the first AAA taping in 41 days. Hooray for something actually happening here.
One Entertainment is now licensing the CMLL brand and talking about DVDs and other products. We’ll see.
Juvi had a press conference for his new school. He’s limiting class size to 10 people, and bringing in Fuerza, Skayde, Negro Navarro, Solar and Durango Kid as trainers. The Gladiatores has video of the press conference.
Marco Corleone and Dorian Roldan had an animated conversation on Twitter last night. You can read all the tweets here, but I’ll try to sum it up for you:
Marco (earlier, here in the comments!): WWE is killing CMLL & AAA because the people who run them aren’t doing a good enough job
Dorian: sick of all these ungrateful foreigners who worked for AAA (cc: Marco)
Marco: Really? I was over and you didn’t do anything with me, just like CMLL said would happen
Dorian: JUDAS!
Marco: Can’t we have an adult conversation?
Dorian: [starts passively-aggressively ReTweeting sayings]
Maybe they had a better conversation in some other form, though it doesn’t look so from Marco’s followup. Dorian’s go to move is the ReTweet, between this and the Dancing Hijo del Santo thing. No one’s a more passionate defender of AAA than Dorian Roldan,k which makes it confusing that he’d ever bother to read this site.
CMLL Pekes has a kid’s calender for the first four months of 2011. You’re own your own in May.
Lineup
CMLL doesn’t have next Friday’s lineup up yet. Ras de Lona had the top two matches, but I deleted it without writing the matches down. They were both generic trios matches. No follow up to Averno & Mistico (or Mistico & Porky) because they’ll be in Japan all next week, and no follow up to Mephisto & Fantasma (because Fantasma will be out with the head injury?)
PdM (TUE) 02/01 Arena Aficion
1) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Balam, Bestia 666, X-Fly
2) Extreme Tiger, Jack Evans, La Parka Jr. vs Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween
This actually might be an IWL show, but the Perros announced it on their website. (The other Perros del Mal show has an IWL tag title defense.) I mention it more here because I finally realized that Balam is the previous unnamed big guy who was wearing a ski mask for months, and I wanted to see if I was the last to figure that out.
AAA TV (THU) 01/27 Gimnasio Agustin Milian
1) ?, Atomic Boy, Gato Eveready vs ??, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana
2) Fabi Apache, Gran Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Billy Boy, Sexy Star, Yuriko
3) Aerostar & Octagón vs Chris Stone & Súper Fly
4) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Amadeus, Charly Manson, Escoria
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & El Mesías vs Chessman & Zorro
The stirring return of Atomic Boy! Other people too but also Atomic Boy! The odd thing here is the Perros del Mal listed this date as one of their shows. Unless someone here joined up (ATOMIC BOY), there’s no Perros del Mal in matches. Maybe the Psycho Clowns should expect to see a run-in.
Wagner gets his rematch with Zorro, while Chessman and Mesias also get to appear.
The plans for the Psycho Circus after ending their winning streak looks a lot like the plans before the winning streak. Kind surprised they’re around at all, since AAA seemed only to keep them around out of obligation.
