CMLL (TUE) 01/25/2011 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, CMLL]
1) Durango Kid, Escorpion, Tiger Kid b Leono, Molotov, Starman
2) Hooligan, Loco Max, Nitro b Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Plata, Sensei
3) Delta, Metro, Valiente DQ Euforia, Vangelis, Virus
Delta replaced Diamante. Straight fall win for the tecnicos, after Virus fouled Valiente in the second.
4) Amapola b Marcela [CMLL WOMEN]
Amapola wins again. Why did they do a tournament to set this up?
5) Blue Panther, Máscara Dorada, Super Porky b Héctor Garza, Mr. Águila, Olímpico
Mascara Dorada was the only one from the Japan tour to work, but he did wrestle. Garza took the second fall with using the ropes, and Panther got revenge with the same trick in the third.
Misterioso wants another shot at Ultimo Guerrero and his title in one of CMLL’s main arenas, but his focus has moved on to the three way Poder Mexica match. Misterioso’s conspiracy theory is Sangre Azteca was trying to get sympathy from the fans by complaining about Dragon Rojo leaving the group, use that sympathy to get on the ballot to replace Mascara Dorada in the Mex trios champions, and then win that to get a title. Misterioso should get to explain more things, he’s fantastic.
The Fabriuchis character who’s been turning around Arena Coliseo Guadalajara is not the gossip celebrity, but a new gimmick for a local luchador: Guero Loco. He’s been out with a knee injury since October 2009. He’s supposed to return to the ring in a few weeks and wants to bring back Asesino Negro team with him.

Lineups

***Fan Apperciation Day, Feb (TUE)***
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Camorra & Mortiz
2) Fabián el Gitano, Metatrón, Trueno vs Escorpion, Hooligan, Nitro

4) Metro, Rush, Sagrado vs Ephesto, Misterioso II, Terrible
5) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra vs Atlantis, Felino, Héctor Garza
Garza/Panther continues. Maybe they can tease that for Dos Leyendas too.
Yoshihashi is not only unbanned, but that would be his first match without Okumura in months. Hopefully Maya’s actually back this time.

And the string of weak lineups continue.
I must have been dreaming when Rush and Diamante teamed up recently to win some titles and Rush brawled with Sagrado and Metro in the process. It would make too much sense to swap Diamante and Metro I guess.
Maybe Sombra will no-show the main event and Ultimo Guerrero can take his place.
If Amapola continues exposing her title against ‘tecnicas’, She will have a ten years reign.
Fan appreciation day = irrelevant line up day
Great site
What’s with the “Amapola wins again. Why did they do a tournament to set this up?”? This is not WWE/TNA, matches here are not supossed to be scripted. Both women did a fair and great match from what I see from reports. I agree that Amapola needs a different and more challenging title contender.
Some of you might be pissed off because the dark angel couldn’t make it. Well, other companies don’t see her as a champion as well. She almost always loses her most important matches.
You’re talking about Dark Angel in SHIMMER, right? Because I think she just lost her big matches there because they were unsure when/if she might be available to come back. And the whole deal with LLF was to have random foreigners come in, work for a few weeks, and then lose their mask, but I don’t think that really says anything about what they saw of her as a champion. I can’t imagine any place else Sarah Stock has worked where you’d take seriously what they think of their talent.
(TNA is dumb, arguing something is right because TNA does it is not a sound argument. I’m afraid I’m too subtle so I’ve just included this part and it’s ending now.)
I’m not sure where we actually disagree, though. I think we both agree
– Amapola vs Marcela is probably a good match!
– Amapola could use a new contender.
If CMLL had done the standard 2-3 weeks of feuding to set up a title match, I would’ve been more receptive to it. Or even if it came from zero weeks of setup, because Marcela is always a credible contender. The cibernetico gave the impression that CMLL might be giving the shot to an unexpected challenger. CMLL’s so focused right now on giving attention a few chosen people (like the three guys who just won the trios titles) while completely neglecting everyone else, that any change of the status quo anywhere is instantly appealing. Instead, they stuck with what they already do, and it’s fair to be disappointed by another wasted opportunity.
I made the point in the news update on that show, maybe again too subtly, that the problem isn’t really with Marcela vs Amapola, it’s with the thought process that gets us to Marcela vs Amapola again. It is a scripted promotion, and the idea of the script is to get people over – Amapola’s not any more popular with the fans for beating the same woman for the tenth time, and Marcela’s certainly not helped. It was a match to mark time. It was a good match to mark time, but it was just that.
CMLL always does the same but there’s still people watching them and supporting them so they are not going to change.
Amapola is a great wrestler but beating the same opponents over and over decreases the credibility and value of her reign. I agree.
The dark angel was awarded last year with a direct title shot from SHIMMER just for not beign there and she failed. She was the last victim of the long reign of Your Soul’s Tormentor. Don’t know what keeps her from not going there. There are no TNA tapings by the SHIMMER ones and her commitments with CMLL can be cancelled with no problems. But still she doesn’t wanna go.
The dark angel is currently a champion of a revived Japanese title wich has not be on the line yet. Why? Is only for trips to Japan? And who will be the challenger, Princesa Sugey again? What’s the point of facing the same opponents in Japan that she does in México?
The TNA gave title shots to all Knockouts last year on House Shows. Even Hamada, Daffney and Taylor got one or several but no single one to the twisted minded Mexicanadian (Sarita) despite beign used more often and the only one left from that group. I tought she would get one on her trip to Middle West but TNA went into another direction. Despite beign used more often she still remains as an underdog, jobber, fodder or an evil sidekick for the top ones and she’s really happy doing that.
Princesa Sugey is currently the champion of PWR. Why the dark angel doesn’t challenge her? Lady Apache said the dark angel was not even considered by PWR to be a title contender against Alissa Flash ’cause she did “not enough noise” (not impressive job). Because of all of this I said other companies don’t see her as a champion.
I agree the dark angel is a good wrestler. There’s no doubt of her skills. I really admire her but I don’t see her as a champion. She lacks something…
I think that if you really wanna know why Sarah isn’t pushed as one of the top girls, or given a run with the belt, look no further than Alex Koslov, Marco Corleone, Rocky Romero, etc. I don’t think CMLL trusts gringos to stick around and honor their commitments.
As far as all the indy stuff – I’m betting CMLL pays her significantly more then Shimmer or TNA, even if only by volume.
@Arakas: If I were PWR, I would have had Sujei win the title instead of Dark Angel, but a lot of that is because they’d might have to pay TNA to use Dark Angel in the US and it’s not that big of a difference.
TNA doesn’t mean anything to me. I said that in my last comment, I wish you would’ve read it before responding.
I think you see the championship as a credibility level that must be achieved. I don’t think whoever has the Women’s championship means much as far as drawing people to buildings, and only see it as an reward for good work. And Dark Angel has done some good work. If Dark Angel won a random one night tournament or cibernetico, I’d be just as happy with her getting the one night spotlight.
Dark Angel is no less deserving than Hiroka when she got a chance or Princesa Blanca when she won her title (both hadn’t won anything before and weren’t as popular.) Of the group of women who’ve been around since they restarted this group and who are any good, it’s really only Sujei and Angel who haven’t had either the CMLL or Mex titles. If Suejei had won the title, I’d be happy for her, but she already won the PWR one.
Now, my actual conspiracy theory is we’re just marking time until Lady Apache returns and wins the title and so it has to remain on a ruda until then, but I’ve been wrong about that before.
“CMLL always does the same but there’s still people watching them and supporting them so they are not going to change.”
If you want until people stop watching you, you’ve waited too long. (And people have stopped watching…)
@Nikita:
“look no further than Alex Koslov, Marco Corleone, Rocky Romero, etc. I don’t think CMLL trusts gringos to stick around and honor their commitments. ”
I think that’s probably also part of it, but since she was around longer and before all of them (except for Rocky’s first stint), I would hope she’s earned a little extra trust.
I hate when we innocent Canadians get lumped in with your devilish backstabbing Americans! Poor Sarah.
