CMLL (MON) 01/24/2011 Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio, SporTimes]
1) Centella de Oro & Tigre Rojo Jr. b Fuerza Chicana & Sauron
Tigre Rojo Jr. replaced Black Tiger
2) Aereo, Mini Maximo, Pequeño Halcón b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior
3) Dark Angel & Luna Mágica b Amapola & Princesa Blanca
No Marcela or Mima Shimoda, so they did a tag match instead.
4) Rush, Toscano, Valiente b Felino, Misterioso II, Vangelis
Toscano replaced Fantasma
5) El Alebrije, Histeria, Psicosis b Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.
Tirantes was back to helping the Invasors. He pulled UG’s mask to set up the pin.
The two recaps have different finishes for the first two matches. I’m going with Cinco Radio. Misterioso tries to get his three way match in there.
Porra Fresa has a review of all the Puebla luchadors this year, and demands the local guys actually get to go somewhere with their feuds. Interesting theory about the original plans for the Arena Puebla anniversary main event too.
Thinking Marcela wins the title tonight. CMLL’s built to the match like there will finally be a title change. Guadalajara has the Mr. Trueno/Puma King title match.
AAA announced Rey de Reyes will take place March 19th, in Plaza Monuemental de Aguascalientes. First time back since May 21, 2009, a taping that was moved around because of the swine flu.
This week’s TV also announced taping in Teziutlan (02/19) and Irapuato (02/28). The 02/19 date means Naucalpan is definitely a six match, two show taping. I suspect one of those matches will be AAA TV version of a Negro Navarro/Black Terry vs Solar/Skayde tag match the WON has mentioned. If both of these new tapings are also double tapings, that would be enough to make it to Rey de Reyes. There’s probably one more though, early in March, to be the lame duck show the week of the major show.
Or maybe it won’t be that exact tag match. Angel Mortal boasted about his win to Mi Lucha Libre, and hinted at bringing in two surprises for a Black Terry/Negro Navarro/El Brazo/Dr. Cerebro vs Angel Mortal/Gran Apache/?/?? atomicos.

Am I the only one who has noticed how weak the CMLL lineups have been this week? Semi mains full of Toscano, Maximo, Efesto and other rejects. These cards just come off as pluging tercera guys into semi main slots and semi main guys into main event slots. It’s troublesome.
Amazing how the local Puebla booker turned a trios into a tag when someone no-showed! Emphasises how little the DF bookers care about their fans (re: Skandalo on Sunday) and/or how lazy they are. At this point I’m of the opinion CMLL deserves to bomb at the gate with what they’ve done so far this year.
Let’s keep teaming Sangre, Polvora and Misterioso!
@Rob: I have a feeling maybe only one of the women showed, and it’s not unlikely they have a spare luchadora hanging around (more so in Puebla.) I’m sure CMLL thinks they’re giving the fans their promised trios match when they insert a rudo in with a tecnico or whichever, though it never works out that way.
So if Mima didn’t show and Marcela did – what happens? They pay Marcela to not work. Why couldn’t they do that Sunday with one of the Tueregs? At least the fans who PAID MONEY would have got a legit match.
I don’t know why it bothers me so much but I know I’m not alone.
One question about the WON mentioned match of Negro Navarro/Black Terry vs Solar/Skayde is this already set? and if not was this just an idea? The more Skayde the better especially matches that make TV!!
what better way to prepare for a match then play video games
dont want to bother but when are the tapatia awards?
@DragonGateFan: They didn’t list that match but just the four names. We just figure that’s what AAA is going with since Meltzer mentioned that they were looking into getting old school style luchadores to work the mid-card.
The lineup for the naucalpan taping is up already

@Alfredo: Someone replied to that tidbit over on the WON message board. I’m cut and pasting his response:
“Konnan’s working you, Dave. Skayde rarely (if ever) works with those guys so he clearly just threw out random names of technical guys and he’s dreaming if he thinks that would work in AAA.”
Smart fella whoever that was.
Didn’t Skayde promote a AAA in Xalapa?
I’d imagine any of those guys would work a match on AAA television.
That bullring in Aguascalientes is huge.
It seems like attendance is down at soccer and other events around Mexico. Chivas debut at their new stadium in Guadalajara didn’t even get a 1/2 house, which for some reason, made me feel better about GdT.
@LLL: according to worldstadiums.com it can hold 16000 people
AAA’s business seems to have improved this past year
Well, there goes that idea. Usually it takes days for my theories to be proven wrong, this one just took a few hours.
My impression from the WON line is those were the types of guys that they’d bring in, but maybe not that specific idea.
My original thought was “They’re doing those matches as a direct and purposefully repudiation of everything AAA presents. Why Would they possibly agreed to do their protest match as part of the ideas they’re protesting?”
(“Well, they get paid.” Oh right.)
My second thought was, if they try to do that match in Teziutlan and Irapuato with no build up introduction, any match like that is going to die a thousand deaths in front of a crowd expecting Bizarros and chair shots and TV stars. And, like, I don’t expect AAA to introduce anyone anywhere, so that’s out. Arena Naucalpan would be, by far!, the best place to get a match like that over because the regulars know that match and see those guys as important, so it only makes sense to try it there first. I believe in putting people in situations they can succeed and all of that.
I do believe Konnan would actually do this, because getting behind an idea for one TV taping is something they’re capable of. It’s the following up every single week where they fall apart.
AAA seems to be running Arena Naucalpan every three months, so maybe I’m just jumping the gun on when it’s going to happen.
No?
@thecubsfan: It’s a decent enough idea, especially for television.
@thecubsfan: I think it’s basically an “Old Timer’s Match”. I don’t think it needs buildup because it’s probably not something that they’ll do angles with. Just something new to try out I guess.
@thecubsfan: Impressive Cubs, but lets see you explain After Dark in spanish now! :p
I think its just one of those matches they’ll throw in. Kinda like some of the IWRG vs. AAA mid-card matches. Also, I don’t think its going to be a problem at any other place if the matches are short. You can’t do a long match like that in front of casual fans, but 15 minutes would do well.
“Protest match”???
Please explain this… Or was it just a turn of phrase?
@Nikita: Turn of phrase.
