NJPW CMLL (SUN) 01/23/2011 Korakuen Hall [Strong Style Spirit, Sportsnavi]
***Fantastica Mania, 2011***
Attendance: 2005
1) Gedo & Jado b Danshoku Dino & Máximo
Jado submitted Dino
2) Gigante Bernard, Jushin Liger, Karl Anderson b Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Taichi
Bernard pinned Taichi
3) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada b Shigeo Okumura, Tetsuya Naito, Yujiro Takahashi [CMLL TRIOS]
3 falls under captain’s rules, which seemed to confuse the fans. Sombra/Dorada and No Limit split the first two falls, and captain Mascara got the campana on Okumura in the third
4) Tiger Mask IV b Tomohiro Ishii [hair]
Ishii got his hair cut in the ring, but then went after Tiger’s mask after the match
5) Místico b Averno
3 falls, said to be a very good match
6) Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi b Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi [IWGP JR TAG]
Title change. Devitt & Taguchi both now have two belts.
Both shows were great success at the box office (seating capacity is 1,800, so I don’t know where the extra 205 got in here), so they’ll clearly be doing this again next year as long as both companies remain on good terms. There really wasn’t much said going forward this year with feuds; obviously there’s title defenses (and possible spots in the CMLL Universal Tournament) for Taguchi and Lyger but no dates or even seasons for those. It seemed like these shows might end up with Sombra & Dorada getting next in line for the IWGP Junior Tag Team titles, but TAKA Michinoku and Nosawa made a post match challenge instead. Mistico & Averno talked about a NWA (Historic) Middlweight Title match in Japan, though they could string that out for another year without blinking. Both shows will air on Samurai TV, though I’m not sure of the dates.
Cesar says the tour was a success for CMLL just to get worldwide exposure. It sounds like La Mascara may have gotten sick before this tour but worked out the rest of the way.
CMLL (SUN) 01/23/2011 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, Cesar]
1) Bengala & Trueno b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Astral, Bam Bam, Fantasy b Mercurio, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Metálico, Skándalo b Arkángel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Nitro
straight falls. Skandalo replaced Angel de Plata, but refused to fight his usual teammates.
4) Terrible, Texano, Vangelis b Ángel de Oro, Stuka Jr., Valiente
Stuka replaced Fantasma.
5) Negro Casas, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. b El Alebrije, Olímpico, Psicosis
Ultimo Guerrero got Alebrije with a Guerrero Special
Bad stretch for the Invasors.
I’ll have full recaps tomorrow, but Black Terry lost his hair to Angel Mortal and the Oficials lost to the Perros (IWRG policy of losing every feud to outsiders in full effect) and the Guadalajara results should be here soon.

That SuperLuchas also had a (blurred) photo of Sexi Star at Tuesday’s Arena Mexico show. Maybe she just really wanted to see the Women’s Cibernetico. I would not be surprised if luchadors from one group end up in the crowd for another’s group’s show, it’s probably more notable that someone pointed it out. Sexi Star hasn’t been too shy about teasing going somewhere else and then quickly proclaiming her undying love to AAA.

Seemed like we were supposed to get Cerebros vs Gringos here, but no that match and Gringo Loco is nowhere to be seen again. Destroyer is a new name, and Masada is a random return. I guess Alan Extreme is a now a tecnico.

Loaded show. Can Dr. Cerbero stop Comando Negro’s streak? Would Brazo and Veneno be the weirdest team ever? Will X-Fly be a four belt champ?

X-Fly becoming a four belt champion is just as bad as the Packers winning the Super Bowl.
