A good night for evil!
In the Comando Negro vs Freelance hair match, Rubisnky was the referee, and aided Comando Negro. He was ref again in this match, which Chico Che didn’t like. He went and brought two seconds (Cerebros), so Comando Negro got Gringo Loco & Hijo del Diablo as his seconds. Bloody, mask ripping fight. If Comando Negro was someone we knew, we’d be able to tell, because he’s pretty much unmasked in the photos. Comando Negro took the first fall. Gringos tried to get Chico Che in the second but the Cerberos took them out with dives. Chico Che won the fall, but the Gringos got the Cerberos kicked out from ringside. With no one to counter, Gringos ran wild. Gringo Loco distraced the ref when Chico Che had a pin. Hijo del Diablo (and a chair) helped Comando Negro take the match. Comando Negro crowed about his good year and told Chico Che to purchase a hat because it’s cold out there for a bald man.
Gringos asked for a title shot against the Oficials after their win.
Arena Mexico has Copa Junior, and ESTO explains the format exactly the same as Rob did on twitter: the first 8 out of the seeding battle royal meet in that order in the main tournament, while the last two have an immediate one fall match to go directly to the final. That means tonight is an 11 match show, with the battle royal match going longer than usual.
People who have obvious final opponents in the other block
Volador (Mistico)
Dragon Rojo (Mistico)
Mephisto (Hijo del Fantasma)
Shocker (Hector Garza)
Those who have a reasonable shot
Sombra
Rush
La Mascara?
Longshots
Olimpico
Felino
Maximo
For some reason, I think it’s Shocker’s night. He’s won one of these before.
Tonight’s main event is Latin O., Mistico, Strong Man vs Hector Garza, Mr. Aguila, Terrible. Is tonight a fair evaluation of what Latin Lover means at the CMLL box office? If the show does anything at all, it’s going to be because people care about the Latin Lover vs Hector Garza feud; the Copa Junior really means nothing. On the other hand, this was a match changed in the middle of the week, too late to be hyped on any of their TV shows. (I wonder if they’ve been pasting over posters the last few days?)
Mistico says he’s matured as a luchador and a person. This may actually be true, because he manages to go thru the entire interview without burying anyone. He would like to see more young people being pushed and wants a mask match with one his rivals next year, but the downturn this year is blamed on ripple effects from the flu and the downtown in economy.
