Solid, Volador pulls a win over Sombra, Mima, Guerrero & Apolo win

Passings:

Chris Long, who appeared on Lucha Libre USA as Solid, passed away this morning. Besides his on-air role as Marco Corleone’s side kick, Long was involved in the promotion behind the scenes. WrestlingObserver says he was shot while working as a bouncer.

Gran Naniwa, Kimura Yoshikimi, passed away in October and news of his passing was only released this weekend. To my knowledge, Naniwa never wrestled in a lucha promotion, but had some memorable matches with luchadors.

CMLL (SUN) 11/21 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II b Cholo & Semental
2) Demus 3:16, Escorpion, Puma King b Leono, Metálico, Trueno
3) Durango Kid, Hooligan, Nitro b Ángel Azteca Jr., Camaleón, Starman
4) Fuego, Máximo, Toscano b Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. b La Sombra, Místico, Shocker

Looks like Metalico was strechered out.

Camaleon in the tercera! He replaced Rey Cometa.

Maximo got Okumura with his powerbomb to take the semimain.

Volador stole Sombra’s mask and rolled him up for the win.

CMLL (FRI) 11/19 Deportivo Agustin Millan [SL391, DJ Spectro]
1) Monje Loco I & Monje Loco II b Mr. Impacto & Sindrome
2) Flecha & Vampiro Negro L Estrunedo, Canelo Casas, Damian el Inmortal, Emperador,Principe, Destroyer [mask, hair, ruleta rusa]
3) Rosa Azteca L Mima Shimoda, Dark Angel, Tiffany, Marcela, Amapola, Estrellita, Princesa Blanca [ruleta rusa, hair]
4) Scorpio Jr. L Último Guerrero, Toscano, Místico, Sagrado, Misterioso II, Felino, Shigeo Okumura [ruleta rusa, hair]

One of the other shows on Friday night with some apuesta matches. All were winners escape ciberneticos, where you were freed from the match by beating someone, and the last person left lost their hair or mask to the second to last.

Vampiro Negro replaced Bengali, lost his mask in a draw with Flecha (the CMLL one, who lost his hair.) Vampiro Negro’s name is Juan Guerrero Pedroza, of Cuernavaca, 22, five years a wrestler. That name doesn’t turn up much, but there is a match last year in Tampico.

Mima Shimoda gets credit for taking “Rosa Azteca”‘s hair. She was listed on the poster as La Rosa. I have no other results for a Rosa Azteca. Hmmm.

Scorpio Jr., a person who was actually supposed to be in their match and is an actually known person, lost his hair to Ultimo Guerrero in a bloody/mask ripping final. Unlike Scorpio’s last hair match loss, he actually got his hair cut this time.

CMLL (FRI) 11/19 Plaza de Toros de Chilpancingo, Guerrero [Luchas 2000]
3) Brazo de PlatinoApolo Estrada Jr.Volador Jr.La MáscaraPsicosisEl Hijo de Aníbal,Héctor GarzaHisteriaDragón Rojo Jr.Atlantis [hair, cage]

And the other show. Brazo de Platino lost his hair to Apolo Estrada Jr. in a bloody final. (Pattern.) Three Brazos lose their hairs in  a week, which is about usual.

Dragon Rojo replaced Ultimo Guerrero, and Hijo del Anibal randomlly replaced Charly Manson. No word of any replacements for the people who double and triple booked people on this night.

AAA in AJPW: Ozz and Cuervo’s turn to be in a tag tournament.
11/20: Ozz, Cuervo, Masada b Kaz Hayashi, Shuji Kondo, Bushi [Ozz Special (?) on Bushi]
11/21: [STRONGEST TAG] Ozz & Cuervo b Kenzo Suzuki & KONO [Ozz pin Kenzo – finish which AAA wouldn’t actually book!]
Ozz & Cuervo are 1-0, 2 pts, but a long way to go.

Lineups

IWRG (THU) 11/25 Arena Naucalpan
1) Imposible vs Dinamic Black
2) Brazo Metalico, Saruman, Suicida vs Alan Extreme, Eterno, Hammer
3) Bombero Infernal, Maldito Jr., Samot vs Cerebro Negro, Chico Che, Dr. Cerebro
4) Ángel Mortal & Gallego vs Black Terry & Comando Negro
5) El Hijo de Aníbal & Veneno vs Espíritu & Joe Lider and Negro Navarro & Trauma I and Relampago & Villano III

Calling that main event ‘weird’ is underselling it. They’re actually following up the semimain angle.

I wonder who Comando Negro really is. I mean, he’s Comando Negro, don’t want to take that away, but he’s either beloved by the IWRG powers that be or he’s related to someone. Or both!

IWRG (SUN) 11/28 Arena Naucalpan
1) Centurión vs King Drako
2) Dinamic Black & Eragon vs Alan Extreme & Epidemia
3) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro vs Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gamos
4) El Hijo de Aníbal, Scorpio Jr., Veneno vs Fuerza Guerrera, Gran Markus Jr., Hijo de Gran Markus
5) Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan vs Hijo del Cien Caras & Máscara Año 2000 Jr.

Gamos? Gamos. I don’t recall asking for Gran Markuses. Gran Marki?

3 thoughts to “Solid, Volador pulls a win over Sombra, Mima, Guerrero & Apolo win”

  1. Durango Kid also filled in for Dr. X so he got to work today after all. Sorry IWL.

“As it turns out, everyone who’s gone from CMLL to AAA has made a smart move, and everyone who’s gone from AAA to CMLL has suffered.”

    LMAO!

See this is why Cesar’s blog is better. Sure Cesar is slanted towards CMLL (and may actually work for them) but he’ll occasionally call them out for stupid things and shit on wrestlers in the company. Has Prometo Lucha Libre ever said anything negative towards AAA? I don’t think so. And it’s definitely not a case of AAA doing nothing wrong…

  2. Most of the names who have gone on to AAA have done better.

Wagner was already a star and has stayed on top in AAA. Marco Corleone did not do as well. Koslov did much better, and the visibility might have helped open WWE’s eyes to him. Heavy Metal grabs far more spotlight in AAA compared to CMLL.

The Invasores angle kind of died out when Oriental lost his mask on an indie show, not in Arena Mexico. I wonder if Prometo has read Rob’s analysis of this?

Niebla did great at first in CMLL, and Pesta Negra may have been the hottest gimmick for a while, but whatever is going on with Niebla is beyond the control of any promoter.

AAA does a far better job of presenting it’s womens division. I think Sexy Star, Fabi, Mari, and the Morenos on a poster mean far more than Marcela, Amapola and Sarah Stock, at this point.

  3. @Rob: There’s definitely an art to these sort of things. If you want to be taken even slightly seriously, you have to be willing to slightly critical of AAA. If you want to be a hysterical troll, you’ve got to make sure more people read what you’re saying (links on message boards and such.)
