10/17 Arena Mexico Results (Trios retain, Luna shaved, Delta & Diamante advance)

Luna Magica, slightly more bald than Fabi Apache/CMLL

CMLL (SUN) 10/17 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Cesar]
1) Horus & Metálico DQ Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Pegasso, Rey CometaCancerbero, Demus 3:16, Raziel
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Shocker, Stuka Jr. DQ Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.
4) Delta & DiamanteÁngel de Oro & Ángel de Plata [Arena Coliseo TAG, final, #1 Contenders]
5) Princesa BlancaLuna Mágica [hair]
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara DoradaAtlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero [CMLL TRIOS]

Poor Dragon Rojo. At least it’s not his fault this time. Tecnicos took the first, rudos the second. Dorado took out Dragon with Brillo Dorado. Mascara saved Sombra after a Guerrero Special and saved him from an Atlantida, then Sombra and Mascara got their signature moves on Atlantis & UG to retain the title.

Finish of the hair match sounds like it was botched. Blanca tried to powerbomb Luna Magica, but it took three tries (and ended up being all Blanca.) Luna got her head totally shaved. Over the last few years, an apuesta loss usually means the end of the road for CMLL women. Of the top of my head, Rosa Negra, Diana La Cazadora, and Medusa were done after they lost, and Goddess only reappeared to round out the numbers in a cage match. There are examples the other way, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to hear Magica is taking some time off now. Luna Magica is not listed in a match for next week, but the only women match on the main shows next week is the Invasors/Marcela vs Reina Rudas rematch.

Delta & Diamante were the second most likely tecnico team to win the Arena Coliseo Tag Team Tournament; the surprise is they beat the most likely tecnico team and not a rudo team in the final. Sounds like it was a good match the crowd rejected. Double D face Fuego & Stuka next week, and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see the titles stay on the champions. This is not supposed to be cynicism, it’s more a belief Delta & Diamante have already been pushed past the point where the Arena Coliseo Tag Team titles can help them (unless these titles are all the sudden supposed to mean something more.)

By the way, if this tournament final and and the Fuego & Stuka match don’t air on 52MX, on the same show all the other tournaments matches have aired, I’m finding out where Julio Cesar Rivera lives and creating some sort of ruckus outside. This is basic common sense, and MVS has not shown a grasp of it recently. That they managed to air both blocks of the tournament on the same show was a remarkable step forward, but I’m expecting to need google maps by this time next Saturday.

Both DQs were the second fall, and caused straight fall wins for the tecnico team. Negro Casas, possibly annoyed that Stuka replaced Metro (nah), blatantly fouled Shocker. That’ll serve Shocker to actually show up. In the opener, Super Comando relieved Horus of his mask. If Super Comando vs Horus in a mask match was actually a match CMLL might ever book, Horus’ odd place (or no place) on the roster would make me wonder if it’s happening. Horus could probably use another fresh start.

The rest of the news, tomorrow.
