Chat’s scheduled to start around 8:30 pm, but you can find the link here. We’ll be going until the AAA show ends, so feel free to stop in any time tonight.
Day: October 1, 2010
Mistico/AAA, AAA/IWRG, no masks with Heroes del Ring
Record is sticking to it’s story. Skip past the part where Dr. Wagner blows off the whole Dr. Wagner Sr. storyline (Wagner doesn’t believe the recording and isn’t affected by it) and read the last two paragraphs. Record notes Dorian’s denial of the story, but says a source says Mistico and AAA were to meet on Thursday, after a Wednesday meeting was postponed so Mistico could talk to CMLL about getting out of his contract.
Don’t know if that meeting actually happened on Thursday, but we know Dorian and Konnan were at Arena Naucalpan. In a couple of interviews for Tercera Caida, Konnan said they were there as fans, but Dorian Roldan suggested they might purchase Arena Naucalpan and use it as a TV venue. (More of that here.) Dorian didn’t want to talk about Mistico coming to AAA, saying he didn’t want to deal with rumors (which is different from the Arena Naucalpan buying thing very very subtly, I guess.) I wouldn’t worry too much about this happening – it came off as the start of a storyline – but AAA will surely will be another running TV taping in Naucalpan before long.
One thing we know is Mistico won’t be wrestling tonight; it’s a Peste Negra vs Invasor main event, which will CMLL another chance to confusingly change around their 10/15 main event. Lyger finishes up in the semimain. If the NJPW guys are legitimately scouting this show for new talent to bring over, then it’s a big night for La Mascara, Diamante, Los Cancerberos and Angels.
(The Heroes Inmortales preview is one post down. Or above, if you’re reading upside down.)
Did you preorder Heroes del Ring to get a free mask? You’re out of luck, that’ s been canceled. Slang says it’s a “compliance reasons in the US”, which seems delightfully unclear. They’re supposed to make it up some other way. Free DLC would be nice, but I’m not holding my breath.
In happier news, the list of Achievements you can unlock in AAA Heroes Del Ring are out in advance of the game. If you haven’t played a 360, Achievements are tasks you can achieve in games, giving you points which carry over between games so you can compare how far/how much you’ve done in games with your friends. (They also tend to reveal plot points, though there’s nothing too surprising there.) PS3 has Trophies, which I haven’t seen yet, but games that are on both systems use similar tasks. Anyway, a few of the most interesting ones:
Little ones can too (10 points) Play a match with the little ones, using the secret code.
Sounds like minis. Or maybe just the regular characters shrunken down? I’ll take it.
Don’t hit the dog (10 points) Win a group match without letting your partner receive more than 20% damage.
One of the most disappointing preview items about the game was the lack of tag matches, but this seems to indicate there’s some team mode.
Dirty game (10 points) Hit an opponent 3 times with a weapon without being disqualified (disqualification on).
That’s been the problem all along – someone actually turned “disqualification off” in real life AAA! If we can just find the options screen, we’d save the lives of many innocent chairs.
A fly hard to catch (10 points) Execute the Superfly special grapple 5 times in a 1 vs 1 match against the CPU on normal difficulty.
Super Fly has a grapple move? That he’d actually get to use on someone? Fictional game for sure. Actually, now I’m disappointed Teddy Hart isn’t in the game, because the “use every move you have in a 1 vs 1 match” would be the most natural task ever. And now I need to stop before I come up with a full list of these.
LuchaWorld has the newest Slammin’ Stan.
Two more Black Terry reviews on Segunda Caida.

- Local preview says Heroes Inmortales starts at 9pm.
- AAA will hold it’s yearly mass for Antonio Pena on 10/05.
- Octagon appeared on the Heavy Metal Rock Show.
- Super Fly wants to add another Stone to his trophy case
- People who do not like the current CMLL bookers: Kung Fu Jr.
- Fuego en el Ring talks about the team of Black Metal & Angel del Mal. Who, I believe, have never actually teamed. I’m so confused.
- Estrellas del Ring talks to DTU wrestlers Extreme Warrior and Sexy Lady.
Heroes Inmortales 4 Preview
I’m more interested than this card than Verano de Escandalo. It felt like nothing particularly important was happening there, and the matches didn’t look that great. The matches are slightly better here, but there’s also more of a sense of progression. Some stuff is still being stalled – Electroshock/Metal is in a holding pattern for the year end show – and there only one match which seems like it’s going to settle things (because one person is leaving town) but it’s an improvement.
NOTE! We’ll be having a luchablog chat again tonight, talking results from this show, from CMLL’s Arena Mexico show, and maybe even Alberto Del Rio vs Rey Misterio Jr. if we’re bored. Both the CMLL & AAA shows are listed as 8:30 CST, so we’ll start around then. Chat will run until AAA finishes up (which could be sometime Thursday), but you’re welcome to stop in and leave any time.
(Are we doing this for 10/15 again? I dunno.)
Crazy Boy, Esther Moreno, Octagoncito, Pasion Kristal vs Jennifer Blake, Mini Psicosis, Tigre Cota, Yuriko
These have not been as good lately and this isn’t the best possible group. This still should be okay. Rudos win just for the sake of the rudos.
Alex Koslov & Christina Von Eerie vs Fabi Apache & Pimpinela Escarlata [AAA MIXED TAG]
The Alex/Pimpi thing goes back – March? Farther? This is an unexpected payoff. It might actually be good.
Alex is leaving soon. There’s plenty of reason for him to drop the title here. They don’t have to lose these titles – they are really not that important, and they can always do the rematch later – but Fabi & Pimpi winning the titles is the safe guess.
Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario vs Damián 666, Halloween, Konnan [hardcore]
Bleeding and chair shots and table breaks and three minute pauses to set up complicated spots which never actually look that good. I’m not really sure why Konnan’s an official particpant in this match – it’s not like he’s restircted from particpating just as much in other matches and he probably won’t be doing much – unless he’s taking the pin getting the win. He went thru the table last time, this is probably where he steals a win.
Takashi Sugiura vs ??? [GHC HEAVY]
No one cares. Let’s move on.
Aerostar, El Elegido, Laredo Kid, Súper Fly vs Alan Stone, Billy Boy, Chris Stone, Decnnis [Copa Antonio Pena, hair, mask]
I have no idea how this exactly is supposed to work – is this a cibernetico where the winners escape? Is this a single fall atomicos? Is this a gauntlet match where the team members might fight each other? Is the “winner” the second to last person left in the match? These are all questions someone has the answer to, and they really ought to consider sharing them.
Anyway, from day 1, the whole idea of the amazing Chris Stone return to TV as a major character was a hair loss, and this sure seems to be it. This did start with Elegido/Chris Stone problems, but I’m not sure it’ll end with Elegido getting the win; they don’t seem to like him all that much. Maybe Laredo Kid gets the surprise win so someone on The List actually gets a meaningful win?
This may be the best match ont he show. Wagner/Silver should be on the good side of the ledger, and there are other matches that have chances, but I like this matches odds.
Cibernético, Heavy Metal, La Parka Jr., Octagón vs Electroshock, Hernandez, LA Park, Zorro [cage]
This one might be good in a different way, depending on how well they lay out everything here. War Games really is just a sequence of beatdowns and comebacks (as long as the rudos get the advantage) and these guys should be able to pull that off well. I suspect we’ll see a guy in a Cibernetico mask before it’s done – maybe two of them. Rudos might as well win.
Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Silver Kain [AAA HEAVY]
This seems unlikely and errenous, but the only major singles match I can find between them is 12/23/1994 match at Arena Coliseo, part of a gauntlet match, where Silver King won. Maybe they did the match in Japan? They’re capable of a match a lot different from anything else on this card, a change of style which will be a nice switch from the heavy brawling matches just before it or just after. Silver King seems like a good contender but not the guy who should be champion. Not sure who the next challenge would be.
El Mesías vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo
If Perro Aguayo Jr. is a good worker, it’d be a nice time to show it. I figure it’ll be a lot of posing and punching of air instead. Like most, Perro Jr. doesn’t wrestler many singles matches. He’s only had 6 since in the last two years, but it’s the greatest group of names ever: Mistico (win), Cibernetico (Draw), LA Park (no results for that show), Santo (no finish), Konnan Big! (win) and this one.
There’s no way anyone is losing without controversy. AAA’s playing up Joaquin Roldan having a surprise (and were before the Mistico talks came out), so maybe someone will show up here to help Mesias get his win back.
AAA on Televisa #956 (09/18/2010)
Aerostar, Gato Eveready, Laredo Kid vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro: Great! A really fun match against two teams who work off each other naturally. I’d much rather see the IWRG version of three falls and more time, but this was a fine little TV match.
El Elegido & Heavy Metal vs Alan Stone & Chris Stone: One of the Stones NOT losing their hair to Elegido would be a giant surprise. They just seemed like set up men for the tecnicos to get runs on until the big rudo came along.
Silver King & Último Gladiador vs Hijo de Cien Caras & Máscara Año 2000 Jr. for the AAA World Tag Team Championship: Junior Dinamitas do nothing for me and this didn’t change that much, though at least they did a ‘real’ IWRG brawl and Ultimo Gladiador’s dive to nowhere was superb.
El Mesías, Jack Evans, La Parka Jr. vs Billy Boy, Decnnis, LA Park, Zorro: shockingly, Billy & Decnnis did not look like stars after being beat here. Usual AAA main event.
