CMLL (SUN) 09/12 Arena Mexico [@cmllmagazine, Cesar]
1) Camorra, Cholo, Semental b Bengala, Robin, Trueno
2) La Seductora, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei b Dalys la Caribeña, Estrella Mágica, Star Fire
3) Fabián el Gitano, Fuego, Sagrado b Pólvora, Virus, Yoshihashi
4) Místico, Strong Man, Valiente DQ Terrible, Texano Jr., Volador Jr.
5) Averno DQ Charly Manson [NWA MIDDLE]
CMLL’s now calling this “the NWA World [Historic] Championship”. PICK A NAME AND STICK TO IT. Volador was Averno’s second and kind of screwing around throughout. Charly did not have a second, but Tirantes was ref. Averno took the first, Mistico took the second. In the third, Charly accidentally kicked Tirantes. Tirantes is loyal to the Invasors until he gets hit, because he’s actual loyal to himself first. Manson got DQed and this hasn’t solved anything.
Shocker was MIA, so Valiente moved up and Fabian el Gitano took his place. The match had no chance of a clean finish with Volador/Mistico; Volador went for Mistico’s mask, Mistico blocked, Volador fouled him instead.
Sujei replaced Yeska. Match was still poor.
Two passings in the last day. La Fiera passed away Saturday. Fiera was a significant part of CMLL from the early 80s to the mid 90s, with a lot of big hair match wins and losses and a great reputation as a wrestler in his young days. Fiera first vanished in the late 90s (jailed for drug dealing), returned, then left for good in 2000s, resurfacing every few years in AAA (and looking progressively in worse shape.)
I don’t have any record of him wrestling since 2007, and any mention of him in the last few years was about him either being in a bad way, or his death being falsely reported. The most recent interview I can find with Fiera is one from Dos de Tres, talking about a previous report of his passing. I was half expecting to hear this one was somehow false too, but it appears he didn’t cheat death this time. Wrestling Observer reports Fiera was stabbed five times Saturday and died later in the hospital.
Remembrances: SuperLuchas, Estrellas del Ring, DJ Spectro, Dos de Tres. CMLL held a moment of applause for him during their show.
Mike Shaw, who wrestled in CMLL as Aaron Grundy, also passed away this weekend. Canoe has a great bio of his career.
Mistico sets up next Friday’s match with Volador by ripping him for several paragraphs. Mistico says Volador talked trash about Brazo de Plata and Rayo de Jalisco, so Mistico is going to shut his mouth next week. Mistico says he created the Super Sky Team and made Volador famous and, as soon as Mistico stops talking about Volador, he’ll disappear from lucha libre. This time around, Mistico suggests Mascara Dorada, La Mascara and Valiente as Super Sky Team candidates.
Peste Negra is livid with Tirantes refereeing, with Bucanero saying he’s always respected the referees, but he may disrespect this particular one and take whatever punishment the commission deals out.
As part of CMLL’s celebration on 09/17, they’re bringing back a lot of wrestlers from the 70s and 90s.
AAA explains the Extreme Tiger/Relampago teamup as “Joaquin Roldan says all of AAA needs to work together, starting with the feuding guys.” This is why Dorian & Konnan are winning.
The Gladiatores has an interview with Decnnis.
Los Perros del Mal joined the walk of fame.
DJ Spectro writes about Monje Loco beating Espectro Jr. II for the NWA Middleweight Championshp. That is a copy of the belt that Espectro Jr. has had for many years. Not sure where it came from, but it has nothing to do with Demon or CMLL. DJ Spectro also looks back at Black Shadow Jr. winning 11 masks in a year and El Rebelde vs Ciclon Rojo for the masks in 1959.
Cesar has his look at this week’s lineups, picks his current leaders for wrestler of the year, and comments on Olimpico’s new look.
SuperLuchas #381 goes with Volador vs Mistico.
Luchas 2000 #538 has Dorada, Volador, Mistico and Electro.
LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.
Lineups
IWRG (THU) 09/16 Arena Naucalpan
1) Super Halcon Jr. vs Mixteco Jr.
2) Brazo Metalico & Dinamic Black vs Imposible & Nemesis
3) Eragon, Freelance, Hijo del Pantera vs Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro, Magia Negra
4) Dr. Cerebro vs Decnnis [IWRG IC WELTER]
5) Cibernético, Espíritu, Gato Eveready, Silver King, Último Gladiador vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Oficial 911, Pirata Morgan, Trauma I
IWRG’s contribution to the 09/16 war – IWRG’s running it’s normal show, but we’ve got CMLL in AULL’s home, the Perros del Mal surviving to run a show another day, and and the Morenos/Invasors running one of their own in Arena Azteca.
IWRG title makes more sense than WWF one. Decnnis really is getting elevated (in IWRG.)
Someone really loves these AAA vs IWRG 10 man ciberneticos.
CMLL (SUN) 09/19 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Principe vs Apocalipsis & Zayco
2) Metálico, Molotov, Tony Rivera vs Durango Kid, Escorpion, Inquisidor
3) Mascarita Dorada, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Black Warrior, Pequeño Nitro, Pierrothito
4) Delta, Diamante, Valiente vs Misterioso II, Pólvora, Sangre Azteca
5) Máximo, Strong Man, Toscano vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero
Seems like a questionable card. Tony Rivera shouldn’t be here, and Delta & Diamante are higher than normal, though their partners are not. There didn’t seem to be any obvious match set up, though.
IWRG (SUN) 09/19 Arena Naucalpan
1) Máscara Magnífica vs Guerrero 2000
2) Brazo Metalico & Dinamic Black vs Epidemia & Nemesis
3) Black Terry, Eragon, Jack vs Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro, Magia Negra
4) Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Mike Segura vs Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Escoria
5) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs La Parka Jr., Scorpio Jr., Tinieblas Jr.
There was a tease of Suicida joining the rudo side last week, this may be a bit of that. Will Parka, Scorpio, and Tinieblas be the team to finally stop the streak? (No.)
CMLL (SUN) 09/19 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Relampago vs Quca
2) Black Metal & Idolo vs Drago & In Memoriam
3) Hierro & Virgo vs Ángel del Mal & Mr. Trueno
4) Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata, Gallo vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
5) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Máscara Dorada vs Jushin Liger, Mr. Águila, Volador Jr.
About the usual here.

R.I.P La Fiera and Mike “Norman the Lunatic/Bastion Booger/Aaron Grundy” Shaw. Vaya con Dios.
Why do I see Volador Jr not being a rudo for very long?
Isn’t CIMA the IWRG IC Welterweight Champion?
AAA 3.4
CMLL 2.2
Smackdown 8.6
NFL Cincinnati vs. New England did a 1.0 NFL is what bumped CMLL from it’s slot.
@Adam: You’re right. I cross up the IWRG Lightweight title. But it turns out he’s defending the WWF one after all.
@LLL: AAA ratings being cut in half -> clear sign of the Oficials as top draw. Viva la IWRG.
(or, if there’s a reason behind these numbers at all, they’re down because Televisa moved them without advertising them, then moved them again during the day.)
I think people are tired of the same Dorian/Joaquin/Konnan/Legion promos. I ask some of the casual fans from Mexico living in the US what they like or don’t like about AAA. They say that every episode seems like the same one with no new talent introduced.
Joaquin is getting offense on everyone these days.
Televisa boxing did an 11.8
Azteca boxing did 6.5
This weeks Televisa boxing should do a 20.
Accion and Mas Deporte did 5.8 and 5.4 respectively. That’s a little down from previous weeks. Both usually do 6 or 7.
Even the “classic” Tigres vs. Monterrey game did just a 4.4
RAW 9.2
I have to say, Televisa does tons of hype for RAW. All weekend shows like Mas Deporte and Accion hype the hell out of RAW and the upcoming PPV.
@LLL: They just got tired of that stuff within a week of them getting the second highest # they’ve gotten this year? What will your explanation be next week when the rating goes back up to the high 4’s or 5’s?
God I really hope people aren’t making judgements on each promotion based on these phony balony numbers.
@Rob: Ratings are a religion to WWE and TNA.
Ratings can fluctuate. Radio and free television are most vulnerable, and broacasters, programmers, and others in the industry sometimes grieve it.
CMLL has yet another time slot, which explains their drop. As for the record high, there are always statistical flukes.
@LLL: Yes but it’s their religion b/c if their ratings get good enough they can use it for leverage to negotiate a better deal or whatnot. Neither AAA nor CMLL have anywhere to go. Konnan said it himself – AAA could leave Televisa but it’d be a huge mistake b/c that’d be like leaving NBC to get on Spike.
Not to mention you’re missing the biggest part of the equation here – there are ratings trends for WWE/TNA. WWE averages 3.0-3.5. Not over the course of a month. Not over the course of 6 months. Over the course of a year. Same deal with TNA and their amazing 1.0. You cannot establish any trend with the AAA/CMLL ratings and honestly every time you try to do so it just makes you look bad in the end b/c the reasons are so ridiculous. You follow these #’s more than anyone and you have NEVER been able to correctly predict the ratings. What does that tell you?
There are lots of shows that see fluctuations in ratings. I also check the ratings for Mas Deporte and Accion, and can’t predict what they will do this Sunday, because it is impossible to do.
When Smackdown was rated on free television, they saw more fluctuations than RAW. Why? That’s the nature of free vs. cable television.
I’d say CMLL has a valid reason for the drop in ratings this week. Change in timeslot. As for AAA, I’m just echoing the same complaints I read here. Too much Konnan/Roldan backstage shit.
