Mistico defeats Sombra, faces Volador next week, Invasors win, Ciber

Mistico b Sombra/@cmllmagazine

CMLL (FRI) 09/10 Arena Mexico [@cmllmagazine, Cesar]
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Guerrero Maya Jr. b Durango Kid & Puma King
2) Cancerbero, Demus 3:16, Raziel b Diamante, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
3) Blue Panther & Máscara Dorada b Hijo del Fantasma & Stuka Jr. [Copa Bicentenario, eightfinal]
4) La Sombra & Místico b Sagrado & Toscano [Copa Bicentenario, eightfinal]
5) Brazo de Plata & Máximo b Rayo de Jalisco Jr. & Valiente [Copa Bicentenario, eightfinal]
6) La Máscara & Shocker b Rush & Strong Man [Copa Bicentenario, eightfinal]
7) La Sombra & Místico b Blue Panther & Máscara Dorada [Copa Bicentenario, quarterfinal]
8) La Máscara & Shocker b Brazo de Plata & Máximo [Copa Bicentenario, quarterfinal]
9) La Sombra & Místico b La Máscara & Shocker [Copa Bicentenario, semifinal]
10) Místico b La Sombra [Copa Bicentenario tecnicos, final]
11) Charly Manson, Olímpico, Psicosis b Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero

Straight fall win for the Invasors. First fall was a DQ on Rey for shoving Tirantes (though it appears Bucanero just pointed at Tirantes and Tirantes fell down, then got back up to call the DQ.) Charly snuck a foul on Negro for the sweep.

The first match of the tournament was said to be really strong. The Porky/Maximo vs Rayo/Valietne match was said to be really poor. Rayo had red/white/green accents to his mask instead of his usual white. Stuka broke out a new black/white outfit for his loss, and Mistico & Sombra had fused outfits. Crowd was really behind Shocker in the tag final, but Mistico & Sombra beat La Mascara & Shocker with their own finishes. Sombra/Mistico was said to be good, with Mistico escaping La Mistica and applying it on Sombra for the win. Volador was at the announce desk, and he and Mistico had words to set up next week’s match.

Both Durango and Pegasso needed help after their matches.

La Parka says Cibernetico isn’t returning his phone calls since Parka accidentally him last week. Seems like they’re setting up a breaking point with Cibernetico on next week’s taping. In related news, AAA has a brief history of Cibernetico which tends to focus on the groups he’ s been part of.

Luchas2000 has Decnnis and Dr. Cerebro hyping a WWF Welterweight championship match for next Thursday. This is the random title Hijo del Diablo showed up with. There’s also a listing of where CMLL’s rolling museum will be appearing over the next couple months.

Canek wants to come back to Arena Mexico. “My performance has not decreased, and I am in a very good stage despite the injuries.” Hmmm. They haven’t given him any dates. Canek assures the writer that he’s working constantly in the north of the country, off TV, but he just thinks he’d fit in well with the Invasors.

AAA will have a press conference/concert to kick off Heroes del Ring on 10/07. It’s going to be a month away tomorrow, might actually want to go preorder it.

For what it’s worth, they were calling Averno’s belt the “NWA Historic” championship. CMLL’s going from using the NWA belt but not the name to using the name but not the belt, and I’m not sure why one is better than the other. Show also featuring Volador explaining how he could beat all 16 guys in the tecnico tournament, and Negro Casas wearing a blank belt while declaring himself #1 contender to Dorada’s title and then taking a phone call from Felipe Calderon.

In actual news: There was a tease of a Invasors/Pesta Negra hair match with all six hairs on the line in a trios match. Olimpico did his first post mask loss interview on this show and came across strong (though I’m not sure what to make of the teased feud with Psicosis since they teamed last night.) There was some hype for a CMLL show at Arena Lopez Mateos…on 09/16, running against the Perros and Invsaors shows. No full lineup, but Mistico & Sombra were names mentioned. Tiffany (using that spelling) was interviewed in the park about her upcoming debut.

Quick links

Dorian Roldan is complaining me at Twitter for something (the size of Arena Naucalpan?) but I’ve legit been too busy to figure it out yet. I’m sure I’m wrong and he’s right.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 09/17 Arena Mexico
1) Guerrero Maya Jr., Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
2) Ayumi, Dark Angel, Marcela vs Amapola, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca
3) Virus vs Demus 3:16 [lightning]
4) Brazo de Plata, Shocker, Strong Man vs Héctor Garza, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Charly Manson, Olímpico, Psicosis
6) Místico vs Volador Jr. [Copa Bicentenario]

No hair match, though they continue that feud. Ras de Lona had Felino in Mr. Niebla’s spot. Bet they just didn’t figure he’d show up this week.

Battle of the super minis!

Much better match for Ayumi on this show. Dark Angel/Amapola again.

  1. Show looks amazing in photos and reads better in the recaps. Opener was said to be great and with those four you can imagine it must have been. They had Demus working with Diamante to start the match which is odd b/c Diamante is the tallest of the tecnicos. End of the second fall had the scary spot where Cometa boosted Pegasso into a frankensteiner on Demus off the apron but they both took a scary tumble to the floor. In the third fall Cometa did a running somersault plancha but Demus moved and Cometa crashed and burned (think Alas De Oro ’07). He got stretchered out. Tournament just reads like a collection of good matches but I wonder how TV editing destroys it.:/ Mistico/Sombra must air in full. CMLL.com already has clips of the main event up.

Hopefully next week’s TV has the Lightning Match instead of the fourth match. Looking forward to the main event.

All week CMLL’s website/twitter advertised their show today starting at 3pm EST (2pm Mexico City) but nothing is on. Jokerman on twitter says Televisa’s guide has it at 3pm Mexico City time – i.e. their old time slot. So we wait and see.

  2. What time does CMLL begin?

Hey Nikita, looks like you won’t have to eat your hat if TNA does as poorly tonight as they did last night in Canton.

  3. XEJ is lagging so much that CMLL starts 6 minutes ago and the net feed is still on the baseball show that aired beforehand.:/

  4. Okay, re:Dorian’s twitter

I had last AAA taping building capacity at ~2,500 and said the building looked full. (KrisZ and the WON went with that number as well.) Dorian, on Twitter, said they drew 5,132.

Spent the last couple of hours trying to track down where I came up with 2,500. For the life of me, I can’t figure it out. Either I got the number and can’t find it or a made a guess at the number for an odd reason and have completely forgotten I guessed (which is more concerning.)

I was wrong either way and I’ll be stewing over it the rest of the day.

  5. @thecubsfan: You should use that computer software they use in CSI were they gather up photos and can piece together a 3D version of the building. Then you can just count all the people for a better estimate. :P

  6. YOU! Clearly a bad influence. This reminds me, if you’re still subbed to F4, you get a sort of shout out at the 6 minute mark in the most recent Lance Storm show. In a fashion…

Whenever I post something’s wrong, down to spelling someone’s oddly spelled name wrong, it always concerns me, but I’m happier to know I wasn’t inventing things out of whole cloth and then forgetting about it. Much too early to be going senile.

52MX does NOT have the scheduled matches. Instead

Guerrero Maya Jr., Molotov, Tigre Blanco b Artillero, Puma King, Súper Comando
Raziel, Virus, Yoshihashi b Fabián el Gitano, Pegasso, Rey Cometa – originally scheduled for Fox

  7. It looks like Teleformula has changed their lineup without telling anyone. Alfredo, you saw Mistico/Lyger around 6 pm CT/4 pm PT, right?

  8. @thecubsfan: I wrote ‘2500’ on twitter after someone on the ByL forum celebrated AAA drawing a packed house. I looked up my arenas list w/ max attendance and saw Arena Aficion De Pachuca at 2500. After the events of today I manually went through my results archive and found a CMLL show in 2006 that drew 3500. So clearly my 2500 # was wrong. Whether it holds 5132 is up for debate but clearly 2500 is way too low.

Seeing as though this is 2010 I have already issued my official apology on Twitter.

And yeah I caught the shoutout. But did you catch Bryan’s explanation of how he felt going into the Dixie YouShoot? Did you make any connection between that and his interviews with Konnan?

  9. ALSO after writing that I did just take notice the show was at the Palenque De La Feria, not Arena Aficion. So I’m double wrong here.

However I am happy to know Arena Aficion can’t hold 5000 people. That would be sad for all the times I have 2500 attendances listed for big matches.

  10. LOL! I haven’t seen the questions Rob posted since despite being a subscriber I haven’t bothered asking Tony for a new password for the board since I rarely visited the board, but wouldn’t there be a way to ask some of those questions without upsetting a guest?

  11. @Alfredo: I’m not going to be around to check, so I’ve got my TiVo recording from 4 PT all the way until 7:30 PT. Maybe I’ll catch it this week.

  12. Local GDL TV starts w/ the locals tag match. Drago is a tubby fella. His gimmick seems to be much like Toro Bill in Puebla.

I still cannot believe there are two different GDL TV shows on at the same time.

  13. Now TeleFormula is on… in the same scheduled time as Cadena3 with Rey Bucanero as commentator in both. I think there is no contest :(

  14. I’m having major flashbacks to the old CMLL GDL TV show w/ the editing fuckups going on. This actually happened:

    – Hierro did a dive.
    – They showed two replays of Hierro’s dive as Magnum did a dive.
    – The referee was counting as the ‘repeticion’ graphic floated on the screen.
    – Everyone came back inside and just as they went for the pin we got a replay of the Magnum give twice in a row.
    – When we came back the match was finishing.

    Just fantastic.

C3 starts with women and Goya Kong.

  15. In theory if you lived in the right place today you could have watched:

    – All the Sunday show except the opener on 52MX/FSE.
    – All the Tuesday show except the opener on C3.
    – All the Friday show except the opening two matches on Galavision.

    Pretty incredible.

  16. @Rob: Ahem I could hardly call this city “the right place” but yes: Friday show checked, the “campal” of Tuesday show just finished and Sunday show is scheduled to start in about 1.5 hrs.
    CMLL TV bliss :D

  17. Volador vs Niebla was excellent. Volador has been on fire since the official rudo turn.

Final really saved the tournament which I found big time disappointing. Just a collection of finishes. Amazing to see the tag champs jobbed in < 3 minutes.

  18. HAHAHAHA They gave Mascara Dorada the old music Rayo used to use. Rayo must be really hard up for cash if he’s taking all this abuse (losing to Atlantis, losing his music, losing in first round of the tournament).

  19. Oh man… I thought Dorada vs Casas was excellent. First two falls were really rushed but the third fall was killer. That match really exemplified how far Dorada has come and how great he has the potential to be. Casas was just a total prick who never thought Dorada had a chance of beating him. The way they played off the finish to their last singles match was fantastic. A 2nd MOTYC from CMLL within a week? Amazing.

My only complaint is Dorada REALLY shouldn’t have had a mini carrying him around the ring after the big win. I know Electrico is a big mini but still… that’s an awful visual in a company where the boss is a mark for guys with size.

  20. @Rob: I really liked C3’s post match interviews. Máscara Dorada has a great voice.
Negro Casas recognized he was surprised, among other things he called M Dorada an “extraordinary young fellow”… thanked God for being able to wrestle a new generation , for not being injured and said his heart is more bruised than his body. Also said he needs to assimilate this defeat.

  21. ACM starting with Caifan Rockero I, Epitafio, Sepulturero I vs El Hijo de Aníbal, Robin Maravilla, Tony Rivera from 8/29

  22. Well ACM only went 30 minute and one match. Cubs, we need a GIF of Hijo De Anibal’s botched dive. That was brutal and painful at the same time.

  23. @LLL: I have been busy this weekend, but Borash didn’t really send out any tweets last night about Canton, so I figured it wasn’t real good. Not that it is a big deal, but I believe both AIW and JT Lighning had loaded indy shows in the Cleveland area last night…

  24. @Nikita: I blame TNA television being cancelled Thursday for hurting weekend box office. Just kidding. Either way, there’s no way some indie groups are going to impact TNA’s box office.

Canton is pretty far from Cleveland. I would hope Toledo did a little better. First time in town in a nice venue.

  25. @Rob:

To be Fair, the guy that was supposed to catch him was too close to the ring and Anibal took a header into the front row.

  26. @LLL: Nah, I totally believe in my heart of hearts TNA can be affected by indy shows. Especially in an area like Northeast Ohio where you have 10-12 different promotions, and the town is being run to death. There is so much wrestling that no one has any reason to save their $$$$ for a TNA show.
Plus, you have PWO right there that gets decent ratings on STO.

  27. I’m dying to see the trailer for the CMLL rolling museum. I guess you walk through it and look at everything.

  28. Figures – XEJ working fine today for AAA TV. Looking forward to another excellent Fuerza Aerea match. Although Worlds Funniest Animals just started so I presume AAA doesn’t start for an hour. I thought it would come on right after football.

  29. AAA TV starts with mini’s. Take away Mascarita Divina, add Mascarita Sagrada and it’s the same match they’ve been doing with these guys since late 2008.

  30. It’s a big crowd. Not 5,000 but sure looks good this week. Let’s see what they do to promote the video game.

  31. Don’t say that or Dorian will get his lawyer to tweet you.

Mini’s match was entirely predictable. Mascarita Sagrada has everything of his edited out except his dive which he almost botched.

The storyline seems to be Mini Histeria thinks he deserves a title shot but Mini Abismo disagrees. They did a post-match skit where Mini Abismo was angry that he lost and Mini Histeria said don’t worry b/c next week he’s getting his title shot (obligatory Dorian Roldan namedrop here). He said they have to train so he walked away and then Mini Abismo laughed at him and said if he couldn’t beat Octagoncito how could Mini Histeria possibly think he can?

I assume this is setting up Mini Abismo accidentally costing Mini Histeria the math next week but who knows. Presumably the match is airing for sure after this buildup.

Also of note – Mini Psicosis said all of 2 words in the entire segment and those 2 words were in broken Spanish. I think this pretty much confirms he is Mini Kenzo.

  32. When Decnis offered the Fuerza Aerea a chance to join La Militia – Laredo Kid grabbed the mic before Super Fly could and Super Fly looked angry.

Not to nitpick too much but if Super Fly wanted to join – why wouldn’t he just turn on his teammates and cost them the match here?
