Lucha Libre USA: Masked Warriors #3 (07/30/2010)

taped 06/19

typical conversation from a luchablog staff meeting

What a brawl that we’ve agreed never to talk about again. Maybe there’s a special half hour of Lucha Libre USA where they talked about the brawl, Treachery, the huge rivalry between Amazing Kong and Tigresa Caliente, Mini Park’s uncle and RJ Brewer’s mom. Or maybe I’m just better off with a show where I don’t pay attention to the commentary, that’s probably been a big benefit over the years.

Trios match was good, solving the mystery of who would win in a fight between Lizmark Jr. and Octagoncito. I’m guessing the plan here is Lizmark vs Marco in the heavyweight final (or at least it was before Carlito) and they seem to be moving well in that direction. Rellik/Charly didn’t really make either guy seem really interesting. Amazing Kong was treated like a huge star, but she needs someone better to face than Tigresa Caliente.

The better stuff was the vignettes. La Vida la Lujo as a telenovela is a bit inspired, as was Tinieblas & Oriental meeting. They did a better job of setting up matches for the next show, but those kind of disappeared to the background.

I recapped shows long enough to know I should tape a few minutes long. It’ll be better next time.

  1. I thought even from the preview show, it seemed like Lizmark/Marco was the plan for the final

  2. You should consistently tag your LLUSA recap/Lucha Libre USA posts for the benefit of the lazy casual visitor.

I keep thinking about Vimeo-reviewing these but they look REALLY LONG and full of interstitial web ads and I’m not sure I’ve figured out how to embed them yet.

I guess what I’m saying is, is this worth my time investment? Clearly I’ll never get around to watching it on TV or putting it on the DVR so that leaves online.

You’d think with the promise of Tinieblas Jr I’d be all over this like white on rice. I guess I’m older now. (So is Tinieblas!)

  3. @CRZ: Tag is fixed? Probably.

They are really long. I liked this idea better with half hour shows, but then we’d go months without seeing half of these people. I meant to try and troll you into recaps but never got around to it.

I wouldn’t start with this show. Maybe this Friday’s show, since at least you get Mascarita Dorada and the PR Flyers (and Tinieblas and his evil plans)? Maybe whenever the Las Vegas shows air (next Friday?) because it’ll be the first time they’ve taped since these started airing and they may decided to change eight or ten things even beyond Carlito? I don’t feel particularly excited by any of this but haven’t given up it either.
