New tag champs, Mistico/Psicosis, LLUSA

CMLL (FRI) 07/16 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas]
1) Metálico & TruenoCamorra & Semental
2) Diamante, Pegasso, Rey Cometa DQ Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
3) AmapolaDark Angel [lightning]
4) Averno, Ephesto, MephistoHijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Máscara Dorada
5) Blue Panther, Místico, Rayo de Jalisco Jr.Jushin Lyger, Psicosis, Universo 2000
6) Héctor Garza & Mr. ÁguilaLa Sombra & Volador Jr. [CMLL TAG]

Rudos took the first, tecnicso the second, and rudos won the third with fast counts form Tirantes. Tirantes cheated Volador & Sombra thru the match, and they attacked him after. Garza & Aguila are the 30th champions. Garza’s now held the belts three times, both previous with Mistico. First two falls were about two minutes, last was 9.

Mistico was showing off his new Oriental mask, and looks headed to winning another one. Mistico & Psicosis feuded thru the match, with Psicosis DQed for fouling Mistico in the third. Rare mention of life outside the internet: I have to travel Sunday (again), but the schedule is pretty much up to me, so I was trying to debating if I should leave early and try to get there before Infierno finishes, or wait and write that post and then leave. If Psicosis is feuding with Mistico – and look at next week’s lineup, that appears to be the case – I think I could just write the Infierno post today, schedule it to show up after the show, and leave whenever. This is a pretty obvious signal.

Amapola replaced Marcela. Dark Angel nearly had her beat with a reinera, but Amapola reversed it into a backcracker.

Ras de Lona did not air. It was odd – there was about 15 seconds of black screen, then 52MX went on to another show. Maybe they didn’t have the tape? Really disappionted, because they surely had cameras in Nuevo Laredo – what would be shown? Show is supposed to repeat tonight at 3:30 AM.

Watched Lucha Libre USA: Masked Warriors last night. As discussed in the comments a way down, we had people identified wrong – on the wiki and here as well, I think. The PR Flyers are US indy tag team Aeroform (Flip Kendrick & Louis Lyndon). The unnamed wrestler at the end of the show was TJP, though it won’t be next time around. I think, back when I figured the tape dates, I was way off. If they’re doing an hour, they’ve got enough to last thru the Las Vegas taping. Either that’ll be a longer taping, or they’ll have to start taping biweekly after that.

Though the show was overall was good. They did lucha libre matches, not American wrestling with masks, and the matches were different and good. They didn’t make the mistake of trying to introduce everyone at once and overwhelm everyone. They did part 1 of a story to give people something to follow into week 2.

There were definitely things to be tightened up – that graphic is #1, and you’re not going to get the idea of captains over if the announce crew forgets who that is halfway thru the match. (Resisting the urge to promote my “captains armband” idea again.) I thought the heel commentator was often to preoccupied with being a heel, at the expense of the matches, but maybe that’s one of those things which will get fixed over time. Whoever works in editing and sound mixing was working to give an impression of a crowd about four or five times larger than was actually there, and it was really noticable in the first match.

I really am too distant from the MTV2 audience to know if this worked. But it didn’t seem like they tripped in the first step.

(There will probably be an actual recap at some point.)

Cesar returns to talk about Dr. Wagner Jr. and CMLL. He believes Wagner’s will end up back in AAA, but with a better deal. I think he’s right.

Cronicas Y Leyendas writes about Jaibo Flores Sr.,

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 07/23 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Metálico vs Mortiz & Semental
2) Dark Angel, Lluvia, Luna Mágica vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
3) Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Rush vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) Lady Apache vs Marcela [lightning]
5) Delta, La Sombra, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero
6) Místico, Shocker, Strong Man vs Héctor Garza, Mr. Águila, Psicosis

The return of Strong Man.

What would Rey Bucanero be doing if Mr. Niebla didn’t vanish? Summer vacation? Sailing the high seas?

Two women’s matches is rare. Maybe one of them is leading somewhere.

  1. LLUSA needs to change Mascara Purpura’s name to Mascara PUPU. Dude he stunk up the joint. The Rudo team in the first match got over like gangbusters. With that said I only watched the first match since sunday is designated Lucha Viewing Day at work.

  2. I still can’t believe Mascara Purpura, the Purple Mask Who Only Wears Red, had a chance to change his gimmick to anything in the world, and decided that “Mascara Purpura” was too money to give up.

  3. Teleformula is joined in progress and appears to be a repeat from last week.

  4. I would check 52mx all day for Ras de Lona. Maybe the time change was made at the last minute. LATV aired another old Ras de Lona last night.

  5. So, why is there no TV chart this week?

Good to see Strong Man Anderson coming back.

  6. yo kid zombie ur e-mail addy is messed up, post it again and ill send u links to the PPV.

  7. @JB: @KidZombie: It’s kind of rude to be asking for/passing around a PPV on the board, even if one of the guys who put it on wasn’t posting in the comments already. The idea is you pay the people who put on the shows, so they can actually put on more shows. TV shows that are free to the air are fine, this sort of stuff is not.

And KZ, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but a staggering percentage of your comments since you’ve started posting here have been either of this type, or blatant shills for stuff you’re doing. This website has no advertisements anywhere on it, and that policy is the same for the comments. I’m happy to link to your radio show, I’ve done it often. Don’t be surprised when those comments disappear. I know you knew, but I’ve got to believe you’re not new to simple politeness.

(This also goes for DJ Spectro too – if I didn’t link to it today, I may be linking to it tomorrow, or maybe it was even possible that I didn’t think it was worth linking too! But I don’t know that DJ Spectro reads the posts he doesn’t put links on so I should stop now.)

This is not a message board. This is a blog, with comments, which are supposed to be some sort of response to the actual post. That’s not a hard and fast rule, but it’d be more interesting for me if I got a few more thing on topic.

  8. I honestly don’t know why Strong Man is so over in Mexico. There is no one who can stand next to him and be believable. Anyone agree?

  9. Noches de Coliseo appears to be off this week for a telethon from Arena Monterrey for Monterrey.

  10. Ah so that’s why the feed on the site is dead.

Hey Rob, What did you think of Moltov on Cadena Tres today? He looked like a more athletic 2006 era Olympico and was way better than Astro Boy and Starman.

  11. I thought MTVtr3 was going to air in Spanish. Unless my SAP settings are off.

Does not matter anyway. MTVtr3 is an English dominant audience anyway. It’s for Hispanics born here and who prefer English.

  12. well thats my bad. i myself tried ordering the PPV but my cable company didnt have it for whatever reason. thats why i had to wait for links but my bad. i would delete the comment if i could.

  13. @Tim: Molotov looked good. Definitely better than his partners although that isn’t much of a compliment since Astro Boy is pretty shitty and Starman is oooooooooooooooold and slow. For me Bronco was the star of the match. Nothing to do with his big moves or bumps. I was just impressed with how he was always in the right spot waiting to take the next move and his ring presence is fantastic. He’s gonna be great (still not even 21 years old!).

Rest of the show was skippable. Didn’t bother with the women. Delta tries hard… he really does. But boy oh boy is he in over his head. I fear for Friday’s semi-main. Main event was mailed in. Even Dorada didn’t get in his usual mindblowing exchange, electing instead of eat a brutal dropkick off a fancy springboard into the ring.

@thecubsfan: Purpura’s never really struck me as being too into this wrestling thing. He seems like the type of guy who is just waiting for his family connections to kick in and some promoter to just shoot him up to the top of the card b/c he can do a shooting star press.

  14. Lucha Libre USA been getting a lot of good feedback.

Not surprise to see Kevin negative comments and rumors. WSX failed on MTV, so he wants this to fail as well.

  15. Lakers fan! Using my detective skills I can only come up with one name…

ALL EVIDENCE POINTS TO FREDO! I have the tweets to prove it!

  16. @Rob: Nope not me. My wordpress account avatar shows up, whenever I post on here. Plus, cubs probably has my ip address listed whenever I or anyone comments.

This fella does have good taste in sports teams though!

  17. @Rob: LOL!

I did like the MTV2 show. It had some stuff I didn’t like, but for the most part it was better than I was expecting it to be.
