06/19 Masked Warriors results (Springfield, MA)

MW (SAT) 06/19 Hippodrome, Springfield, MA [Wrestling News World]
1) Hijo del Lizmark, Pequeño Halloween, Sadistico b Máscara Púrpura, Octagoncito, Súper Nova
2) Charly Malice DQ Rellik [MW HEAVY, tournament]
3) Awesome Kong & Mini Park b Chi Che & La Tigersa
4) Magno b RJ Brewer
5) Mascarita Dorada, PR Flyer, San Juan Kid b ?, Hijo del Lizmark, Mini Halloween
6) Oriental & Tinieblas Jr. b ? & Marco Corleone

These should be weeks 4 thru 6, so I might have missed a match. They did a bit where Super Nova came out to challenge someone, so maybe that’ll take up a spot. (The guy didn’t come out, but Nova did catch up with him later.)

The guy who sent in the match report did a pretty good job identifying as many people as he did, because there was no real lineup identifying people or matches, just promising the top guys and promoting the show as a taping. Since this isn’t on TV (and even when it is), the promotion probably should be doing all it can to introduce their luchadors and over play their roles. My theory has always been that people have more fun yelling “You suck [insert name here]” than just “You suck”. Match order isn’t right, but it’d change again before they air it.

Attendance was about 175, which left the building empty up enough that they were moving people around to make it look more full. It’s a shame they’ve gone with $20/$40 tickets, because an actual full building would look better on TV and it’s really the TV show that’s going to make or break this, not the events. On the other hand, they probably can use all the revenue streams they can get while trying to get this started.

Show was said to be a fun time, better than the California show sounded.

Heel RJ Brewer explained they were using a 4 sided ring in his usual anti-immigration bit. The six sided ring is just too Mexican! After a lawn mowing line, a locker room clearing brawl erupted. Magno later beat him in a match.

Rellik was DQed for spitting mist in Charly’s face.

Awesome Kong is indeed the ex-TNA/current indies woman, and pinned the exotico Chi Che. That may be the new weirdest match ever.

Oriental side slammed Mascarita Dorada to pin that match.

Mini Halloween, who I may have on the wrong team, appeared to suffer a lower leg/ankle injury when he was one of a group of people catching a dive. They got his boot off and carried him to the back.  Marco’s friend Solid was handing donuts to front row fans.

No word on when the next taping is, but they’ve got time to work on it.

Rayo/Universo, Rayo/Mendoza, Casandro

CMLL (SUN) 06/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
0) Javier Cruz Jr. & Nocturno b Metalik & Templario
1) El Divino & Leo b Acertijo & In Memoriam
2) Dalys la Caribeña, Dark Angel, Lluvia b Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca, Seuxis
3) Dragón Rojo Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi b Fuego, Stuka Jr., Valiente
4) El Alebrije, Histeria, Psicosis b Felino, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
5) Rayo de Jalisco Jr. b Universo 2000

51st Anniversary show. Seemed like they drew a good crowd, but definitely not a sell out.

Universo jumped Rayo to win fall one, Rayo brawled his way to winning fall. Rayo tried to get rid of the referee for the third fall so they could settle it themselves, but the referee (Bestia Negra) was not down with that. Rayo accidentally kicked the referee in the third fall, Unvierso not accidentally fouled Rayo, but the ref was still down. Universo counted his own three, then went to check on the ref. Ref awoke, Universo turned back around, and Rayo small packaged Universo for the win.

Psicosis stole Ultimo’s mask and pinned him to win the semimain, setting up a rematch next week. They can have Ultimo Guerrero lose to Psicosis, but they couldn’t have Shocker, Fantasma or Mascara lose to him on Sin Salida? Huh.

Yoshihashi surprised Valiente with a big German suplex for the win, and was overjoyed after getting the three count.

indy (SUN) 06/20 Arena Neza [The Gladiatores]
1) Ving-Sun b Bizarro
2) Chico Che & Enrique Vera Jr. b Trauma I & Trauma II
3) Carta Brava Jr., Dunkel, Enrique Vera, Rayo Tapatío II b Dr. Muerte, Macabro Rojo, Malevolo, Vampiro Metálico
4) Negro Navarro b Ramstein [AMERICAS LH]
5) Rayo Tapatío I DQ Ray Mendoza Jr.

Mendoza jumped Rayo, tore his mask and bloodied him before winning the first fall. Rayo stole the second fall when Mendoza was over confident. Mendoza got caught fouling Rayo in the third for the DQ. By the stipulations of the match, this means these two will have a mask vs hair match. No date was announced and I wouldn’t think too much of it until one is, but Rayo Tapatio I is 46 years old and not a guy who needs to go to his grave with his mask.

Semimain was listed as Ramstein vs Skayde for Skayde’s NWA Mexico Welterweight championship. Instead of Skayde, Negro Navarro appeared defending the Americas Light Heavyweight championship. That title was held by Trauma II last anyone knew.

The Arena Azteca Budokan tribute show for Casandro looks well attended. The Gladiatores’ recap says Santo worked fourth from the top; he had to have another show to work or another place to be.

Aventurero won the FILL Light Heavyweight championship from Hator on Tuesday in Arena Coliseo Monterrey.

El Pancracio talks to the Invasors, who feel they made the right move invading CMLL, since they would’ve been out in the cold if they stuck around when Los Perros invaded AAA, and feel like that is a copy of what they’re doing. Pancracio also has interviews with Satanico and Disturbio, as well as backstage interviews from Friday’s Arena Mexico show and a report on a Tinieblas talking about his career to fans.

SuperLuchas asks “Is CM Punk’s mask a copy of Kempo Dragon’s?” No, probably not. Though I do see the similarity.

Rob reviews a ton of mid November ’09 lucha.

Arena Mexico, 05/21/2010

Eléctrico vs Pierrothito in a lightning match: I write the same thing in the recap, but I might as well repeat it here: Electrico is really athletic, but he has problems making it look like a fight and not just an exhibition of flips he can do. Not everything is as bad as the flip he took off the apron but it’s his clearest place to improve. Maybe all these matches with Pierrothtio will help. Maybe not this particular style of match; I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that the lighting matches (and the ones with the women and minis in particular) are run thru a few times during the week leading up and that’s why some look more choreographed than usual.

Astro Boy, Guerrero Maya Jr., Sensei vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skándalo: Best Astro Boy match I’ve seen in a while! (I haven’t seen much Astro Boy lately.) Unfortunate for Maya that he seems to be lumped in with the crew who usually loses to the Tuareg instead of the crew who usually beats the Tuareg.
