CMLL Guerreros del Ring on 52MX #231 (04/24/2010)

Arena Mexico, 04/18/2010

* Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Molotov vs Dr. X, Nitro, Raziel: Molotov gets a big chance to use the Molotov Especial on TV, uses Konnan’s finish. Not the way I would’ve gone…

* Brazo de Plata, Máximo, Sagrado vs Shigeo Okumura, Taichi, Villano IV: Not really a great match, but the run in and beat down was pretty good and chaotic. Didn’t think about it when writing the recap, but it is a little better than they missed the shot of the run in originally; no one should’ve known this was coming.

Volador/Mistico, CMLL/Invaders, Rayo, Viva La Lucha, Santo

CMLL (MON) 05/17 Cancha de Fut-Rap [El Manana]
2) Mr. Águila, Oriental, Rossy Moreno b Juventud Guerrera, Sexy Flor, Super Crazy [seconds hair]
3) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra ?? Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano
4) Volador Jr. b Místico [MEX LH]

Mistico was in his evil green gear, but it was Volador who took advantage of some rudo-ness. Volador took the first, Mistico the second. In the third, Mistico got La Mistica, but Sombra (Volador’s second) yanked off Mistico’s mask, and Volador pinned him to retain the title.

Local referee Pinocho lost his hair to Tirantes Sr. in the seconds hair match. The promoter here has been running these combo CMLL/Independent shows for a few months now, so it’s not as much meaningful to the current storyline expect it’s probably where the discussion of doing that sort of story started.

Cesar has a long piece about how the Invasion of CMLL came to be that’s well worth reading. Psicosis II, as an actual leader of the ex-AAA guys, was important to get this going, and CMLL’s been contacting former members of the promotions who are still loosely aligned with the group (your Universo 2000s). As Cesar understands it, the plan at the moment is for Hector Garza to be the leader of the group (this would explain that trios challenger change), though they’ve had talks with an unnamed current AAA wrestler about returning, and Cesar suggests that El Hijo del Santo could be (or could’ve been) a possibility, since it’s been a while since he’s complained about CMLL. That would be interesting, but highly unlikely.

Rayo de Jalisco Jr. says it may be some time before he returns to CMLL, because he has not yet signed a contract for dates. He says he returned to CMLL because he never had any problem with the company and wanted to help stop all this Invaders. Kcidis illustrates Rayo’s return and hopes for a feud with Ultimo Guerrero.

The Viva La Lucha PPV has add Sabu vs LA Park from the most recent XLAW show (cut down to 15 minutes; went 26:50 live), and something with Blue Demon Jr. and Oliver John.  [poll id=”65″]

The main event of the actual Perros taping, the match with Latin Lover, Marco Corleone and El Hijo del Santo vs Perro Aguayo Jr., Blue Demon and Hijo de Lizmark, will NOT air on the PPV. The assumption here is Santo wanted more money to allow his match to air on PPV and said no. It’s a tricky situation, because they clearly wanted Santo on the card to help draw, but by putting him in a main event with Perro and Demon, two guys they appear to see as the big stars here, those guys have to be wedged onto the show in less prominent ways. As it’s advertised on the preview show, Hijo de Rey Misterio & Groon XXX vs Super Nova & Oriental is the main event, and as much as I like one team there, I think Oriental’s family wouldn’t trust to make that the main event of an Arena Azteca Budokan show. (The preview show does seem to have realized this, and tries to push this show as a variety of match styles rather than around one specific match.) Maybe Santo gave the impression he’d be okay with his match airing and then upped his price after the fact?

Ratings

  • CMLL, on Televisa on Sunday and at a different time, got a 2.8 rating, 0.6 down from last week. They’re averaging a 3.26 over the last five weeks.
  • AAA on Televisa got a 5.3, up from a 4.9 last week. They’re averaging a 5.0 the last five weeks.

Hijo del Fantasma says HE should be the #1 contender for the CMLL Middleweight Championship, since he never got a rematch versus Negro Casas. Maybe their singles match will settle this? Fantasma getting the title match with Liger is a nice consolation prize if Hector Garza is too busy with the Invaders bit to do that feud. Fantasma also says he’s okay with the Sombra/Dorada/Mascara trio challenge for the trios title without him, since his trio came together equally as randomly and the important thing is to take the titles back for Mexico. (Though that’s apparently not true with the middleweight title!)

Electroshock previews his match with Dr. Wagner Jr., calls himself slow as an elephant (setting up a compliment.)

El Hijo del Santo will be appearing (but not wrestling) at a Tijuana Book Fair this Wednesday.

LuchandoLibre has photos and results from the EAW show on Sunday.

There’s a Bolivan Lucha Libre game for PS2. At least there is in Bolivia. And on file sharing sites, if you search “Furia de Titanes PS2”, though I have no idea how to get PS2 games from a computer to the system.

Proyeccion Luchistica has an interview with El Dollar.

The Gladiatores has an interview with IWRG referee El Ruvinski and early match wrestler/man with unfortunate hair style Eterno.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.
