CMLL (FRI) 04/30 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, @cmllmagazine, Cesar, Luchas2000]
1) Leono & Starman b Bronco & Inquisidor
2) Fuego & Metro b Euforia & Raziel
3) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Luna Mágica b Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca
4) Pequeño Warrior b Bracito de Oro [mask]
5) Héctor Garza & Pólvora b Delta & Volador Jr. [Gran Alternativa, final]
6) Dragón Rojo Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Taichi, Último Guerrero b Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Místico, Strong Man
Mini Warrior took the first, Bracito de Oro took the second, and Warrior won the third with a urange. Bracito de Oro, who had his family with him after the match, is Roberto Rodriguez Aguirre, 46 years old, 25 years a wrestler, originally from Oaxaca. Given his age and his level of use before this feud, this might be it for him. Bracito did says in interviews that this was’t the end of his career, but no one ever does.
Brazo de Oro was his mini’s cornerman in this match, and was warned for getting involved in the third fall (Sangre Azteca worked the rudo corner.) Brazo de Oro is on quite the bad streak of late: losing his hair match in Guadalajara, cornering his son to a loss in a title match on Tuesday, and cornering his mini to a loss here.
Gran Alternativa final was a three falls match. Delta & Volador had team masks that looked Super Sky Team-ish. Rudos took the first, tecnicos took the second, and the third fall seemed quite long on radio. After Volador accidentally dropkicked a referee, Polvora fouled Volador and picked up the pinfall. No 1 on 2 comeback for Delta on this night, as Garza & Polvora pinned him with a super faceslam. In the last year, Polvora has gone from being stuck in the opening match to winning Tigre Blanco’s mask and this tournament.
Main event did not start until 11:20pm local, later than they end the shows many nights. Probably as a result, it was a quick match – straight falls to the rudos, and quick ones at that. Ultimo Guerrero & Dragon Rojo got pins on Strong Man & Mistico in the first, and Taichi & Okumura got pins on Mascara & Fantasma in the second. After the match, the Japanese challenged Mascara & Fantasma to a trios title match. The third team member would be Hiroshi Tanahashi, due on next Friday’s show.
Top 3 matches went all to the rudos sides. It makes sense for where they’re going (though you may argue with that on the Gran Alternativa) but it’s an odd deal to do on Kid’s Days.
Ras de Lona has an interview with Estrella Blanca, but I think that’s just random.
Sombra’s being positioned as the defender of CMLL, but that’s beat by the interview segement of the crazed lunatic invaders – Psicosis, Histeria, Maniaco, Alebrije and Cuije being insane, hanging from the ceiling and breaking things. They want us to call them the Independents, but that’s not catchy. They actually introduce all the guys, so you know who they are even if you don’t know who they are. Alebrije insists he’s still a tecnico, but the indepedent guys are sticking together. No sign of Monsther, so that may have just been a one time deal.
Also, CMLL’s going to Guatemala soon, with a loaded roster (Mistico, Garza, Ultimo Guerrero, Terrible, Texano are involved.)
Also, Kid Luchadors.
Al Filo del Ring is excited for the AAA vs IWRG matches.
Cesar looks at this week’s CMLL lineups; at least the ones that are posted so far.
The Gladiatores has an interview with IWRG referee Yudi.
DJ Spectro looks back at Flama Solar beating Solitario in straight falls back in 1977.
LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and 20 to 10 on the top 100 countdown of 2009.

As set up this part Thursday. Will be interesting to see how this goes. Both Ultimo Gladiador and Cuervo got their starts here, but it’s been a long time since they’ve been back.
Dark Devil is an Arena Neza guy. When they actually run shows in Arena Neza.
CMLL (FRI) 05/07 Arena Mexico
1) Leono & Sensei vs Apocalipsis & Durango Kid
2) Pegasso, Rey Cometa, Rush vs Loco Max, Nitro, Skándalo
3) Ángel Azteca Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte [lightning]
4) Brazo de Plata, Máximo, Toscano vs Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Delta, La Sombra, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Mephisto, Pólvora
6) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Hiroshi Tanahashi, Shigeo Okumura, Taichi [CMLL TRIOS]
Tanahashi is only in for a few weeks, but that trios is losing the belts soon. I have no idea how that’ll go. For what it’s worth, that wasn’t a title match when they put the lineups together for Ras de Lona.
Delta & Sombra & Volador seems like Super Sky Team 2.0, at least for one night.

1) Camaleón & Metálico vs Apocalipsis & Cholo

Not sure if this has already been pointed out, but CMLL is listed as starting at 2:30 today.
nevermind, my guide seems to be screwed up
Nope, you’re right. Starting with mini’s mask match.
“Top 3 matches went all to the rudos sides. It makes sense for where they’re going (though you may argue with that on the Gran Alternativa) but it’s an odd deal to do on Kid’s Days.”
Last year’s Kids Day show had Ultimo Guerrero beating Mistico in the finals of a tournament and stretchering him out. Killed business for months.
So nothing about last night is surprising.
Pretty sure we may end up with a Gran Alternativa final rematch at some point soon.
they gonna start to put the japanese on the main events again
Noti CMLL just said Negro retained his CMLL Middleweight Title over Lyger while on tour in Japan…
… although the match that isn’t taking place for 2 days.
OOPS.
Are you sure they weren’t talking about an earlier match on the tour? I thought that’s what they did on Ras de Lona (or they did the same thing there, I dunno.)
52MX has the expected two matches.
I think that IWRG is last weeks show.
IWRG is 17 minutes late, and a rerun from last week.
@thecubsfan: Don’t follow NJPW at all but purolove only lists one title defense scheduled for 5/3.
@thecubsfan: IWRG aired the first match complete this week!
New LATV episode tonight, YAY
@Tim: The one they promised last week?
Yep
Lover Boy/Golden Boy/Simbolo featured what might be Dive of the year just now on ACM.
Here are my notes from tonight’s Perro’s show. It was a pretty full house, I would say about the same crowd as the last show they ran there. This was probably my least favorite of the Perros shows that I’ve seen, but it still had its high points. Hopefully it will translate well to TV and DVD since it will be their most widely distributed show to date. The show started around 5:30 and ran until after 9:00, but there were several long breaks between matches (particularly around the hardcore match of course), so that made it feel a little slow live which shouldn’t be a problem on PPV or with the DVD. While the crowd seemed to lose interest at a few points during the show (again pacing being the issue I would say) they were electric for the main event.
1) Turbo beat Black Thunder [NWA MEX LIGHT]-Probably not as good as the first match of the series, but I thought it was quite a bit better than the second singles match. A couple of missed spots, but overall a very solid match. The match only got one fall
2) Exotico whose name I didn’t catch/Leo/Angel beat Medussa/Pesadilla/Ragde-Poor Angel. I actually like him and even enjoy Pesadilla and Radge on occaission, but this was not a good match. The crowd hated the tecnicos, so maybe it would have helped if Estralita was here even if the quality didn’t improve much. They gave this match three falls and it was painful all the way through.
3) Mr. Águila beat TJP-pretty good match out of these two. Aguila came out to his own music (nonPerros) and had the crowd solidly behind him. TJP did a good job realizing this and playing off of it. Aguila may not be in Esse Rios shape, but he can still put on a good show at times. Another singles match that only gets one fall.
4) El Hijo de Rey Misterio & Groon XXX beat Nova & Oriental-Poor Nova and Oriental. Groon was as awful as usual. HdRey wasn’t horrible, but didn’t do much to impress me either. This was the first I have seen him, so I’m willing to withhold judgement. Rey gets the pin on Nova following the top rope spanish fly. Just before this, Groon apparently broke his ankle. I couldn’t see exactly what happened, but it looked like he was in too close when trying to catch and Oriental dive (maybe a tornillo?) and Oriental came right down on top of him. Groon was stretchered out while Oriental and Nova went after Rey post match. Rey then got on the mic as the rudos left, only to be interrupted by the Perros music. Perro, Damian, Halloween, and Mr. Aguila all came down to the ring, there were “una caida mas” challenges and a beatdown to Rey which involved him eventually being powerbombed through a table by Perro. Maybe setting something up for the next ppv?
5) Damián 666 beat Supreme, X-Fly, Charly Manson, Halloween [hardcore]-Yes, Supreme is our surprise. This involved thumbtacks, lightbulbs, shopping carts, barbed wire, and any number of other objects. Everyone bled lots. I like some of the participants in this match, but see no need to do something this over the top on each show. This may have been elimination style since it seemed like Supreme pinned XFly at one point, but if so, I missed what happened to Charly and Halloween. Perro ran in and hit Supreme with a chair which led to Damian getting the pin and challenging him for “his title” on a future show. Halloween kept wanting them to use a bottle of something that he had tossed into the ring near the end of the match (lighter fluid?), but it never happened. The representative from the commission did not look amused by this match and seemed to be getting samples of the thumbtacks or something after it was over. In the end, nothing will happen and the commission will look powerless. If he had a problem with the match, why not prevent it from happening when he saw barbed wire and lightbulbs coming to the ring? Anyway, we probably get a title match of some sort out of this on a future show.
6) El Hijo Del Santo, Latin ♥, Marco Corleone beat Blue Demon Jr., el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hijo del Lizmark-The crowd was great for this. Who knows how it will come across on TV, but if they can capture a fraction of the excitement from the live crowd it should be great. Demon and Santo start things off with some mat wrestling. Perro and Latin pull each others pants down. Marco and Lizmark do their thing. Marco looked like he was enjoying himself. Some brawling int he crowd, but nothing too over the top. The finish comes when Perro pulls Santo’s mask, Tirantes was distracted and missed the count, Perro got upset and Santo slapped on the camel clutch. Not perfectly clean, but pretty close for a Perros main event. I thought the match was fun and hopefully they keep Marco involved in future shows.
All in all, not a bad night, even if they do still have some work to do. Hopefully the PPV arrangement works out alright and they keep running shows with this crew.
