Mex Trios champs retain, Gran Alternativa, MarcoTV, Perros del Mal PPV

CMLL (TUE) 04/06 Arena Mexico [@cmllmagazine]
1) Cholo & Mortiz b Camaleón & Robin
2) Eléctrico, Pequeño Olímpico, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Delta, Fuego, Rush b Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) Máscara Dorada, Metro, Stuka Jr. b Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca [MEX TRIOS]
5) Místico, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero b La Sombra, Sagrado, Toscano

For a man going back to the tecnico side, Mistico has no issue fighting them here, including going after Sagrado’s mask. Rudos took it in 2, UG pinning Sombra with his feet on the ropes.

MSM Fly retained in their first defense. Misterioso is the lucha bad luck charm. I now figure this tecnico trio will never lose…until the Metro sponsorship runs out and they vacate the title when he gets  a new identity.

Two guys hurt. Ultimo Dragoncito’s usual killer tope on Pierrothito was a bit too close to living up to it’s name, and Camaleon was helped out after taking Mortiz’s Spanish Fly. Three straight matches with that spot with Mortiz, an odd deal for an opener and probably not a finish everyone’s going to want to take.

Pictures are up for Tuesday’s GDL show, but no results yet.

Today’s Ovaciones reports the annual Gran Alternativa will return next Friday. The first round will be 04/16, the second round will be 04/23 and the finals will be on (Kid’s Day) 04/30. Ovaciones notes they don’t know how many teams will be in the tournament; a 3 weeks tournament usually means a 16 team tournament, but the Gran Alternativa has always been eight teams. Maybe they’d actually just do three matches a week, giving them more time? That’d be different.

Last year’s winner were Yujiro and Okumura. (Maybe Semental actually gets in this year?) The last few years, there’s been an informal rule of “no repeat rookies”, though they can always change their mind on this. I’m sure they can find 8 rookies, and I believe they can find 16, but I’m not sure that’d leave a lot for next year.

As noted by helpful people, the person the Gladiatores were hinting at running the MTV2 show appears to be Marco Corleone. The MTV2 shows will be one hour, 52 weeks long, and all new material taped just for this show. (This sounds VASTLY more interesting than cut up AAA.) They’ll be using both US and Mexican wrestlers. Still seems the Mexican talent will be from AAA, but the thought process behind AAA’s tryout in LA becomes really clear – they needed guys for this show that’d be easier to get to than the AAA guys. Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.

In something that was probably reported first by PWInsider, but I’m linking elsewhere because I care about your computer’s safety, Valiente Entertainment’s PPV show in New York has offically been canceled. That seemed to be the case a week ago, but now they’re saying they’ll be taping 04/30 in Mexicali…which is a previously announced Perros del Mal show.  That card is a pretty standard Perros taping (Perros vs Santo/Demon/Park, Chary/X-Fly), and I wonder if it might still air on TVCDeportes.

Angel Azteca Jr., Angel de Plata, La Sombra, Molotov and Ultimo Dragoncito visited children in the hospital. I bet Dragoncito could compare scars.

Cronicas and Leyendas looks back at Gran Davis, starting with his wrestling career.

Veneno’s blog has photos from him back in Panama.

Apparently, video game reviewers checking out the AAA video game also got to meet Elegido. I’ve never been sadder not to be approved AAA media. I don’t think Elegido can take a picture with his shirt on, it’d just feel too weird for him. Nice to know the video game is still existing.

R de Rudo has a letter from a fan upset at Sangre Azteca.

Kcidis remembers Solitario.

LuchaWorld has the best of 2009, 90-81!

After the break, a quick comparison:

GOOD

  1. Marco and MTV 2 aren’t using any AAA talent. It will all be indy mexican talent and Americans that can work lucha style.

  2. So apparently WWE is using Dos Caras Jr. on the European tour this week as he faced Christian yesterday in Austria. I thought Keith said he was going to be fired?
